All you USC lovers out there will be happy to know that Pete Carroll just reloaded and started firing out of both barrels again. Save this name for future reference: Matt Barkley, freshman QB. Taylor Mays looks even better. Joe McKnight is looking scary good. In short, the USC team still looks bigger and faster than everybody else. Especially on D. That D lost all those seniors and is still a crusher. Can't wait to see OSU go under the grinder next week. It won't be pretty. ;D

KU picking up right where they left off. 28-0 at the half.

USC looked ridiculously good against some scrub team. So did Florida, as did Texas.

Oklahoma State looks like they learned how to play defense. Watch out Big XII south, if these guys can play defense this year they can win the conference.

I guess you're a Georgia fan, Hogan? My nephew is a Senior there, and his part time job for the past three years has been to go to the classrooms of football players to make sure they're in class. I gotta tell you, I thought it would be a better game. Really sloppy on both sides of the ball though.

I'll be at that game. I fear it will be almost as lopsided as last year. While people are doging on OSU, I think Navy has a damn good rushing attack and that gave OSU fits. Add to the fact that Tressel decides to go for it on 4th and 1 when he should have taken the FG, we missed an extra point attempt, played our backup qb when we should have been going for the kill, and we gave up a big play toward the end of the game. I didn't get to see the entire USC game. Looks like alot of the play calling was pretty vanilla, was that because they don't want to reveal too much, or because Carroll does not trust Barkley. I hope Ohio St was playing vanilla on offense, but I fear they were not. Frankly, I don't know if Tressel knows how to play any other way. Way too predictable. Keep on eye on Duron Carter, I think he will be special, just like his father was.

ND hasn't really been a national championship contender since Holtz. They have a good year from time to time and then they are back to being mediocre and we fire someone and move on to the next savior. Willingham got the axe because he couldn't score to save his life. You notice how long he made it at Washington.

They looked really good today on offense and the defense registered a shutout. They are not world beaters by any stretch of the imagination. I do think they are very worthy of being in the top 25 though and I hope we make a good showing in major bowl.

What I like about them this year is we actually have some depth at most of the positions and we have some really talented underclassman that can contribute for a few years.

There are quite a few who are still in denial. I'm not affraid to say that we are a slightly above average team in a terrible conference. I think the conference will return to prominence eventually, but that seems to be a ways away. SEC looks as strong as ever. Big XII took a hit with bradford going down. If they can hold the fort until he gets back OU will still be a powerful contender.

Okie State looks to me like the 2nd best team in teh conference though. That game between them and UT is going to be a great game.

Mizzou losing pretty much everyone destroyed Illinois today, that was kind of shocking. The north still has a long way to go but if Mizzou, KU and Nebraska can maintain their improvement over the next 5 or 6 years we might actually have a balanced conference.

Doubtful, but we might.

Their offense hasnt shown much today. Defense has played well but their offense leaves much to be desired.

Given that Unga (who has dominated the last couple years) was out and we had FOUR turnovers (one at the 1 yard line) I think the offense looked pretty damn good.
Well over 300 yards passing and some nice runs mixed in there even without our best player.

Those turnovers and penalties almost killed us, but we hung on for the win.

I'm gonna bask in this one for awhile.

Only one Big Ten team lost....they mostly played teams they should beat, but it's not like they all lost their games.

Michigan rolled Western Michigan 31-7.

MSU rolled Montana St. 44-3.

Penn State eased off of Akron and still won 31-7.

Purdue dick kicked Toledo 52-31.

Northwestern whooped Townson 47-14.

A bad Minnesota team beat Syracuse 23-20 on the road.

Ohio State beat Navy 31-27....I will acknowledge that as a poor game.

Iowa beat Northern Iowa 17-16....in a game they should have lost.

Wisconsin beat a scrappy Northern Illinois 28-20.

Crappy Indiana beat Eastern Kentucky 19-13.

Missouri smashed Illinois 37-9....that was a Zooker all the way.

I don't think the Big Ten is a very good conference this year....but you all are making it sound like 5 or 6 teams lost....and what it all boils down to is that one team lost....although I wish it would have been two (damn Ohio State).

With Joe McKnight in the backfield, and that Oline, and that D, maybe Carroll feels he doesn't have to get too complex? Why throw it if you don't have to?

LSU has lots of exciting weapons on offense, but I wonder how they are going to fare in the SEC with their weakest front seven in years.

I am so happy to see Sarkisian compete today in his first game. It's hard to believe the Huskies program is riding a 15 game losing streak.

Like I said in the Sam Bradford thread, I hate making excuses for losing, but if Bradford doesn't get hurt, OU wins that game. Yes, the OL played terrible, but Bradford is loads better than Landry Jones. Plus, I also don't like how conservative the playcalling was in that game.
That said, I still think OU can be a big time contender as long as Bradford isn't out for too long. They still have a solid defense, they have playmakers on offense, they will always be in the tough games.

I hope you boys and gals watched Gerald McCoy and Ryan Reynolds tonight, because they were swarming to the ball.

Bradford is better than Jones. But its not like BYU got a lucky shot on him. The Cougs defensive scheme was superiour to OU's protection. OU's QB's were getting pounded all game. BYU's O line was just as inexperianced as OU with 4 first time starters.

It's not like BYU played a perfect game. Both teams were sloppy as expected in a season opener. If BYU limits their mistakes this game isn't even close. It goes both ways.

That said I agree with OU's conservative play calling. BYU's corners are traditionally bad. I don't feel like OU really tested them. But that may have to do with the protection issues. It was a good game. I wish you guys the best of luck the rest of the year.

I don't think you can pin the downfall on Weis. There was Davie and the Willingham before him. It's tough for a school with Notre Dame's academic standards once you have a couple losing seasons. It didn't help that they got blasted in a couple bowl games playing against superior teams because of the Notre Dame exposure for the bowls. Weis has finally had a few years to recruit his players and has added a nice coaching staff. The talent level is up and he is playing the young guys more and more also. They have one incredible pair of receivers in Tate and Floyd. I think they are a legit top ten contender and should be solid the next few years.

The academics aren't the problem in and of themselves. Top recruits for years have gone to ND and done well in school and on the field. It's the players that would rather go to another school (Nebraska, Ohio State, Colorado, ;)) where they can still get recognition and not have to work as hard in the classroom.

I would rather ND keep their academic reputation than lower their expectations to field a winning team of idiots.

OU was winning 10-7 with Bradford at the helm, and I would bet money that OU scores more than 3 points in the 2nd half with Bradford at the helm. Heck, if he matches his 1st half total, OU wins 20-14.
BYU played a heck of a game, and they deserved to win after what happened, but I still think OU wins with Bradford healthy.

My arguement has more to do with the fact that in conference, you can't really help how good those teams are. The Big 10 sucks and therefore OSU plays a week schedule because their conference is bad. They do schedule some week out of conference teams as well, but I think they do that with Ohio teams because they are trying to keep the money in state. Yes, we do play tough teams like Texas and USC as well. It's not like the SEC has tough out of conference games, it's just that their conference is so amazingly difficult that nobody ever mentions that.

Big XII and SEC teams are scheduling weaker OOC games because their conferences are so freaking tough.

Pac 10 and Big 10 schools need to do the opposite as their conferences are weak and if they dont schedule tough OOC then they will likely not be invited to the big boy dance even if undefeated.

Yep. The one problem with that is schedules are put together years in advance and you really don't know who is going to be great from one year to the next. Sure, you can pretty much guarantee that Florida, USC, Texas will be pretty solid, but outside of the few top programs, you never really know. Still, scheduling Youngstown St. and Ohio is pretty weak. I'd argue that ouside of USC and Texas, Navy was one of the best (difficulty wise) OOC games that OSU has had in recent years.

I will make the same argument regarding my alma mater (Tulane) as I will for ND - letting in a dozen or so kids that are "lower" than normal academic wise, will not change the reputation of the school. For Tulane, we don't allow JC transfers and have a score requirement above the NCAA min. Just dumb. Michigan, Florida, USC are rated as a better schools but don't have hold their football players to the same standard as Tulane. What a crock. TU lost some good recruits the last couple years because of it.

Jevan Snead, QB, Ole Miss would be my first QB of choice if he declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. He has everything I like in a QB....a strong arm, a gunslinger mentality, and athletic enough to make plays and buy time with his feet.

I wish to **** we still had our first round pick.

I have a feeling that if Snead has a good year, he will be the #1 overall pick in the draft.

I like the kid from Cincy he looks pretty good.

He looks really good, but I don't think his arm as strong as we think it is. I saw him throw the at deep out and it got there with some speed it wasn't a laser. I put that arm below elite level.

I was listening to the radio today that some Texas boosters bought season tickets for the Wyoming football program this year just so they could watch the Longhorns play in Laramie on Saturday. The stadium seats some 30,000 and the Longhorns were given 3800 allotment tickets which went very fast. So the Horn fans that got left out just called UW and bought season tix to sit with the Cowboy fans.

I'm told the same thing happened when they went to UTEP.

It's interesting that Texas is one of the few major programs that will schedule home-and-homes against schools like UTEP, UCF and Wyoming. Most of the major powers only want the home date. They'll do home-and-homes against other big OOC programs but few agree to do it with the mid-majors.

What's crazy too, Texas is actually putting something on the line by traveling to Laramie. War Memorial Stadium sits at 7,000 feet high. They should cruise to a victory, but it's hardly going to be a walk in the park.

I don't think we have anything to be cocky about. We have stunk it up on the big stage the last few years. I'm tired of hearing about all of the negativity concerning the Big 10. I want all teams in our conference to do well except when the play OSU. And yes, you're right, it will eventually end, that is how it happens. Carr had Coopers number. Tressel had Carrs number. Will RR get Tressels? Time will tell.

C'mon you KNOW Bradford is going to come back too soon, he can't help it if he's dedicated, and they have a boatload of freshmen behind him.
And the fact that he got hurt on the exact SAME blitz call BYU ran 3-4 plays earlier ... doesn't bode well for that O-line (or coaching) when they face "serious" teams later in the year!

I don't think the injury will cost him nearly as much as the TEAM will this year!

Seriously, why the need to poke fun at a team and a person because he is injured?

That said, if Bradford struggles this year, he could just return for his senior season to build everything back up.

Not making fun of Bradford, he'll be back for this season. I just don't like OU, and Bob Stoops with his lonely 1 bowl win! ;)

The Gresham thing - for the team it SUCKS, for him though it's good that it happened now. He can start re-hab, and has a lot of time to try and make that knee strong again before going to the combine and entering the draft. This could be a real launching point for him!

What's crazy too, Texas is actually putting something on the line by traveling to Laramie. War Memorial Stadium sits at 7,000 feet high. They should cruise to a victory, but it's hardly going to be a walk in the park.

They should be deep so players probably won't tire. The linemen say they are looking forward to this because they'd love to play a game in 60-degree weather after a whole summer in the 90s and 100s.

Actually, I'm hoping the altitude will convince Brown to pull McCoy sooner since the Sam Bradford saga could be re-enacted at any time and the backup Gilbert is a freshman who needs the work.

The Longhorns have to travel to Boulder every four years so I'm guessing they have their "playing at high altitude" gameplan already worked up. I have family who went to college at UW so I've been there. You have to adjust to the wind as much as anything. Nice little college town. I LOL'd when I heard that the students have to go to Fort Collins to have a wild time. Yes, Ft. Collins. Hilarious!

Some Toledo Rockets to keep an eye on versus Colorado on Friday.

Senior QB Aaron Opelt is scrappy. He threw for 423 yards and 3 TDs versus Purdue last week.

Toledo's stud soph RB Morgan Williams got his dumb ass suspended for the first 2 games of the year, so CU will not have to face him. The running game struggled last week.

6'5 200 pound senior WR Stephen Williams makes a lot of plays and had 15 catches for 185 yards and 2 TDs versus Purdue.

True frosh slot WR Eric Page is the real deal. 12 catches for 128 yards and a TD in his first college game. He is a local kid that went to Springfield High School (Rick Upchurch also went to high school there). Page was an incredible QB/RB. but Big Ten schools overlooked him because he is 5'9 and 170 pounds. Michigan should have signed him.

The defense pretty much sucks, but keep an eye on stud safety Barry Church....a very good NFL prospect:

Candidate for Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back and Bronco Nagurski Award as the nation’s top defensive player...Named third-team preseason All-America by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview...Has a chance to become just the second player in UT history to earn first-team All-MAC honors in four consecutive seasons...The first was Nick Kaczur, now a starting offensive lineman with the New England Patriots.

On special teams, kicker Alex Steigerwald will nail the game winner, if given he chance.

I think that he's great college player, but I am worried about his lack of arm strength. He has good footwork and his throwing motion is 100 times better then Tebows. I think in the right system he could be very good, not great QB. At worse he is a solid #2 that can come in win a game or two.
