**** YES **** YES **** YES!!!

I wanted this signing so ****ing bad.

The guy is a ****ing stalwart leader on the D-Line and did amazing in his reps over at Miami, not to mention he was a team captain.

VERY VERY VERY happy if this happens.

Peterson and Holliday at each end with McBean/LeKevin at the reserve is just what I want.

We're going to make transitioning from a 4-3 to a 3-4 look easy with the changes we've done and the adapting the players from last year have made to it, ie Dumervil.

why was he un-signed? he isn't THAT old.

Probably wanted to skip training camp.

He's a smart vet, a good leader, knows both the 3-4 and the 4-3, and he's pretty close to the ideal weight/height for a 3-4 DE.

If this goes through it's a great signing for us.

It gives us vet leadership at all 3 levels of our defense.

Swap out Andra Davis for Ray Lewis and I honestly believe we'd have the makings of a defensive turnaround that's been unseen before considering how bad we were last year.

Very good news! Hopefully in a few weeks once he gets some practice and game reps he will be starting next to Peterson at left DE...

Our D-Line is starting to actually look pretty awesome.

Dolphins fans think he can still play, and was apparently cut because he was making to much money.

I'm not feeling this......http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/10/pats-on-holliday/

I was hoping we would have first crack at him the last couple of weeks in training camp........

I think Von can still play at a high level and it would be great to have him on game day

You do realize when u say castoff that Holliday was cut because of contract not because he sucked. He was a starter on last year's defense.

Vonnie still has a little bit left in the tank. How much exactly remains to be seen.

serves us right if he does sign there. we never should've cut him.

This would be a very good sign if the price is right. It seems good DEs are hard to come by for the Broncos, and it also seems like there were a lot of missed with Shanny - ie Engleberger, Courtney, Ekuban... plus 33 isn't that old, and d-linemen (good ones) usually play well into their late 30s.

Looking at the depth chart, the Broncos seem to have a ton of weight at the front 7. I'd actually foresee Holliday playing RDE in the 3-4 scheme. Should be good eating up blocks... maybe move Peterson to LDE.

Seems like we're going to be getting most of our pass rush from OLB this year. Ayers hasn't looks very good this preseason, but I really hope he'd be able to put on 10 LBS and play RDE, and put Holliday at LDE. Not gonna happen this year.

Yeah, he's not ancient but he's no green banana either. If we sign him, I don't expect that it would be a long contract, maybe 3 years tops. I'm all for signing him but not if he thinks he deserves HUGE money. Maybe they can ask Orton to take a paycut to sign Holiday...............lol.

thomas was a turd BEFORE he became a bronco ... he got kicked off his college team his senior year. he was another one of shanahan's (desperate) reclamation projects. a prime example of why shanahan (the coach) was let go because of decisions shanahan (the director of football operations) made.

Holliday, an 11-year pro and team captain, was cut loose by the Dolphins on Monday.

The move was made mostly for financial reasons. Holliday was due a $1.5 million roster bonus Tuesday. His salary-cap number for this season would have been $5.75 million.

Holliday led all Dolphins defensive linemen with 46 tackles and 3½ sacks.

This has always bothered me when players are brought in to supplant guys who have worked hard all summer. I do think Holliday can help this defense, but it's a very uncomfortable feeling when some bubble guy gets the ax because someone from the outer reaches is flying in to take his job.

Holliday time in Denver?
Posted by Tom Curran on September 5, 2009 10:12 AM ET

Former Dolphins free agent Vonnie Holliday, who's already had his tires kicked once by the Denver Broncos, is in Denver today for another look, according to Almando Salguero of The Miami Herald.

Holliday, released in a move that saved Miami $5.3 million back in March, would be quickly added to the Broncos rotation at defensive end in their 3-4 defense if he signs.

A possible lateral meniscus injury to recently acquired LeKevin Smith is what likely made the Broncos get busy with Vonnie.

Though he's 33, Holliday - a well-respected locker room guy in Miami - has played 16 games in each of the past four seasons.

Holliday also had New England sniffing around him last month but the Patriots moved on.

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_13277682

The Broncos completed a deal Saturday for veteran defensive end Vonnie Holliday.

The 6-foot-5, 288-pound Holliday was a solid defensive tackle/end for the Green Bay Packers from 1998-2002 before moving on to Kansas City and the Miami Dolphins. He will be expected to play both the 5-technique defensive end and nose tackle positions in the Broncos’ 3-4 defensive alignment.

“”He’s versatile so he can play wherever the team decides to play him,” said Holliday’s agent Cary Fabrikant. “”He’s an extremely talented football player who’s been a starter for long periods of time. He’s familar with the defense.”

Its not like they signed 7 vonnie's, he's going to be a rotational guy that will help anchor the line. I've been VERY pleased with the line this preseason and young guys like McBean and Baker have played well and it looks we still have guys like Marcus Thomas making the team and probably someone like Pedelksdhfjskfhsf (i cant spell his name) on the PS. Yep.

ON PAPER, there are some big names and solid vets on this defense, lets see if it translates to the field.

But two hall of famers in the secondary, solid vets on the DL and LB crew - it *looks* good.

I think its pretty clear that when they brought him in for the first visit, he was sold on signing, but didn't want to go through training camp, which is understandable considering he is older and he knew McD's regimen would be tough.

Hopefully he truly is in shape, and can become acclimated to the scheme quickly. He should be solid by the mid-season suicide march.

well according to Vonnie, he wasn't signed earlier due to him having knee surgery during the offseason that he didn't publicize...

so when he visited teams in the spring, he still had major swelling and was basically damaged goods...
