View Full Version : Can we run the table?

Okay, so I know it's only preseason, but...

last night we shut out (and dominated) the defending NFC Champions. It raised a few questions in my mind:

1) Is this the best defense we've ever had? How does it compare to the best defenses in the history of the NFL? From what I've seen so far, I would put it at number one in team history, and number seven in NFL history.

2) Where does Brandstater rank with current NFL QBs, and what qualities do you see in him that were also in the great ones, like Montana, Elway, Brady, Bledsoe, Manning, etc?

and the biggest question,

3) Where do we lose our fist game? I'm going to put myself out there - I'm a gambler, by nature - and say that our first test is actually in the Conference Championship. Take a look:

@Cin; CLE; @Oak - are you kidding? - 3-0
DAL - Wade coaching in Denver - enough said - 4-0
NE - Revenge game - Protégé becomes the mentor - 5-0
@SD - Could be dangerous - SD has no one to hate, now that Cutler's gone - 6-0
@Bal - Joe Flacco? Against this defense? I hope he doesn't get hurt - 7-0
PIT - Could be a tough one, as well. But it's at home, and we just don't lose at Invesco - 8-0
@Was - Trap game - this will largely depend on whether we can put them away by halftime, and take the crowd out of it - otherwise, I think we might win by only 14, or so - 9-0
SD - I think Rivers will still be a little shaken from having faced our defense a month earlier - we win this one easily - 10-0
NYG - Eerily similar to 1998 - but this time, it's at home - 11-0
@KC - I've got nothing here - KC is just completely over-matched - 12-0
@Ind - Scary - my gut says we only win by a TD - but we're rolling at this point, so who knows - 13-0
OAK - Al Davis will be coaching by this point - 14-0
@Phi - Philadelphia will be on the playoff fringe, so they could be tough - but history is on our side, at this point - 15-0
KC - '72 Dolphins can only hope for a playoff collapse - 16-0

So, from there, it's just the playoffs. I think we probably get a rematch against New England in the AFC Championship; then, maybe Chicago in the Super Bowl. Cutler wouldn't get out of that game alive - Doom gets MVP.

So, what do you think? I wanted to wait until I saw the last preseason game to be sure of some of these picks. I didn't want to go out on too much of a limb. Am I missing anything?

Well, that, and this defense. The turnovers are a huge factor. We go +4 in turnovers every game - with Brandstater back there - I don't think anyone stays withing 3 TDs.

But we only faced their super offense for 2 series. And it was mostly their backups that gave us turnovers. Id say the reid pick and the clemmons fumble were on us the rest were gifts by backups..

You know what else.....

Speaking of the bandwagons. The lots and the stadium were packed last night, especially considering it was a weekday night game, 4th pre-season game which is usually reserved for weeding out the scrubs, and "we suck"as so many want us to believe.

I think we will only go 19-0 if Hillis is the only RB to carry the ball for us.

I mean in UnicornHappyLand the guy is the shizzle and if we even think of handing off to another RB Hillis's UnicornHappyLand powers will be drained and wasted.

I also think that with Brandstater D's will have to play 30 yards off the ball because.

Ayers will have so many QB's fall down in front of him behind the LOS he will crush the sack record.

You're just mad because you know I'm right. Did you see our defense last night? I'm thinking of a word - brick wall!

Throw in the fact that we have probably the best offensive talent that's been assembled since the 49ers of the mid-90's, and I don't really see how anyone could beat us. In fact, I'll go as far as to say this: I don't think a Pro-Bowl team of the best players from the other 29 teams could beat us. The only weak link on our team right now is Punter. My guess is that he gets on the field five or six times all season. We should just go without a Punter. Bingo. Bango. Bongo.

I realize you're a little jealous of what we have here. The Chargers have always had an inferiority complex with the Broncos. It's like Napoleon. When he was the king, people were just constantly trying to conquer him, in the Roman Empire. So, it's history repeating itself all over again.

Now run along and leave the football discussion to us adults.
