This is going to be a fantastic game. That's one thing about the college game: meaningful football games right out of the gates. This one has some big implications for both teams.

Two Boise State fans were walking down the street when they came upon a dog lying on the sidewalk going to town licking and cleaning his groin like dogs do.

The first Boise State fan says to the second, "Boy, I wish I could do that."

The second Boise State fan replies, "Yeah, me too. But I wouldn't try it."

The first Boise State fan asks, "Why not?"

The second Boise State fan replies, "Don't you think that the dog might bite me?"

I do not like the Boise field. I really hope it never starts to be a trend.

The morning radio show here, Todd n Tyler, just started broadcasting to Boise and they had a smack talk match between fans of these two teams. People there seem to hate eaxh other. Most of the talk wasn't even about football. It was all about how many fans of the other team it would take to beat up the caller. They all seemed to just accept that the Broncos would win.

Really? We just had a running back from a few years ago that hailed from Orange County, CA then off to Oregon. Think real hard.
I am a fan of BSU. It actually started with that blue field and started noticing they had real football in the Idaho/Montana area. When they beat Oklahoma a few years back was exciting. They have fans and if they win, they might screw with the BCS if they end up undefeated. GO BRONCOS!

I hate Boise State too, but I usually pull for the WAC in out of conference games. On the flip side, I also like the PAC-10.

This is big weekend for WAC legitimacy as Nevada travels to Notre Dame, Louisiana Tech plays Auburn and San Jose State goes up against USC. I am just praying that one of those schools can pull off an upset and shock the world.

MWC Presidents won't make the invite because it will split the pie one more way.

He landed pretty square on the jaw. Most anybody is going to be stunned from a shot on the jaw that you don't see coming and if you watch the youtube clip at about the 2:50 mark, he was only momentarily stunned and totally unhurt. If anything, Blount has no power in that right hand.

Anyone know what was actully said?? Boise St aren't saying ANYTHING about why Hout was grabbed by that coach. WTF?

You WIN the game, take your helmet off, THEN stop an opposition player just to rub it in and make a snide comment? What a punk, no-balls bitch!
And Hout won't be punished (aside from handling it "in house") - that's what is WRONG with college football.

Yes, Blount got what he deserved. Even if we could "ignore" the punch, the "fight the crowd" crap was disgraceful, then the way he fought against his teammates trying to usher him into the locker-room ... speaks VOLUMES about him! He's an idiot!

Hout is a classless, punk-bitch though - try pulling that **** at a decent program like Penn State, you'll be off the team in no time!

It saddens me (in the NCAA) to see instigators of fights and incidents (like this) get away with it. College is the time when they should be STOMPING this **** out, instead of worrying about their W-L record and how many MILLIONS of dollars the football program will bring in this year!
My ideal would be: If it can be clearly established that you instigated an incident that brought the NCAA's image into disrepute - you sit out a minimum of one game.
Might help some of these kids get their attitude in check before they turn professional.

So the consensus that I have heard is Hout says to Blount, How bout that a$$ whoopin'. How did he instigate here? He reitereated what Blount had said earlier in the week to the media where he states (paraphrase),"We are going to whoop their a$$es". Didn't Blount fuel the fire to start this whole thing off? If he can't eat his own words, he shouldn't talk and he certainly shouldn't retaliate.

yep, I heard the same thing, "How about that a$$ whoopin" in reguards to Blounts comments earlier in the week.

If you take the result of the comment out of the equation, and base the punishment for Hout on his comment alone, it does not justify a game suspension.

He instigated it as soon as he pulled the "bump and run" on an opposition player.

It's not "consensus" it's just MY OPINION. The players can say whatever they want to the media (they're likely to take it out of context anyway), but when you do it face to face, that's a whole different matter.
(edit - meant to say: when you do it face to face "AFTER THE GAME", it's a different matter!)

Question for ANYONE - IF there were 5 "upset victories" this weekend of nationally ranked teams and each winning had a mouthpiece like that Hout punk, who interferes with an opposition player leaving the field, so he can mouth off and gloat.
How many more fights would you have?
Crap like that incident is not what the NCAA needs or wants, and it should be totally STOMPED out.

We owe that team an ass-whooping.

So let me get this straight, you talk Sh!t about my team and after we lay the smack down on your squad and remind you that you talk a bunch of sh!t, that some how gives you the right to throw a swing?

Blount has a history. This isn't the first problem Oregon has had with him. He was already on super secret probation and he blew it, and he did it in grand fashion.

Yes, Blount got what he deserved. Even if we could "ignore" the punch, the "fight the crowd" crap was disgraceful, then the way he fought against his teammates trying to usher him into the locker-room ... speaks VOLUMES about him! He's an idiot!

Hout is a classless, punk-b**** though - try pulling that **** at a decent program like Penn State, you'll be off the team in no time!

"Throw a swing" WTF?
No. I already said Blount got what he deserved for being a moron, see my previous posts. (I'm neither an Oregon or Boise St fan)

My point is: the instigator of an ON FIELD incident, should sit for a week - no exceptions.

So, there was a fight at Penn St, 2 kids went to the hospital, then 6 Penn St football players were charged and went to court, 2 were convicted. ... And?
No-one ever gets into fights at other colleges, so that's worth writing an entire OTL report on?8')
IMO - no-one can control "off-field" incidents, you have 50-100 guys, aged 18-20+ ... that's a recipe for disaster anywhere!

I'll admit I did LAUGH, when the reporter asks 81 year old Joe Paterno: "did you send text messages to the entire team saying ..."
Paterno: "I don't even know how to send text messages. I don't even have a computer."ROFL!LOL:spit:

so you think a player should be suspended a game for trash talking on the field?

No.
But if you shove(*) an opposition, AFTER the game, to talk trash, and that causes an incident - YOU started it. You should sit out the next week.

If Hout had of shown some class and simply said "good game", "bad luck" or NOT shoved the guy, this wouldn't even be an issue. (... and in all likelyhood Blount wouldn't have got his dumb ass kicked off the team ... until a few weeks later when he did something else stupid!)

* = I know it was a light "shove" but that's the best word I could think of.

(Nice attempt to use the "on the field" part in defense of Hout!) ;)

If Blount can't take a little trash talk, he'd never make it in the NFL anyway. So long, loser.

The hit on Blounts shoulder pad was over the line and borderline worthy of a game suspension. The trash talking is not classy, but hardly worth a game suspension.

I don't agree that Hout started it.
1) Blount initiated the whole thing before the game.
2) Blount does absolutely nothing during the game to back up his talk
3) Houts comment after the game are in response to Blount pregame trash talk
4) Blount reacted in a poor way by sucker punching Hout
5) Blount could hardly be restrained by teamates and coaches, a few of which he shoved.
6) Blount went after a fan
7) Blount was restrained again by coaches, police officers, and players
8) Blount continued to resist those restraining him

I used "on the field" the same way you did in your point " the instigator of an ON FIELD incident, should sit for a week - no exceptions."

I would have no issue if Hout were suspeneded for a week, and I have no issue with him not being suspeneded. It was a borderline call and I do believe it will be delt with by coach Pete. Hout was already getting a tonge lashing by the coach before, and after he got sucker punched. Hout has a clean record and this seems to be an isolated incedent where he let his emotions get the best of him. After playing an emotion filled game for 60 min, its hard to just shut it off the next minute. It doesn't justify Houts action, but it is understandable. Im willing to bet he learns from it and will never have that problem again.

Blount would still have some part of his season left if:
- this was the first incident (not just another of many incidents)
- he had not sucker punched Hout. (no suspension)
- he regained his head after punching Hout and calmed down(3-4 game suspension)
- he had not gone after a fan (this was his biggest mistake by far)

I can't base Houts punishment off of Blounts reaction. Would you still call for Hout to be suspended if Blount did not react at all and just left the field?

Combine the two things Hout did, and he SHOULD sit for this week, regardless of how stupidly Blount acted.
However, if this didn't blow into such a huge incident (lead story on sports reports, ESPN, etc) then considering you say his record is clean, maybe an official warning to Hout would have sufficed.
Drop a letter from the NCAA in his lap before training, if he craps his pants, that would be good enough.

The NCAA and Football don't need this crap, and (like I said earlier) if you throw one "Hout" into the next 5 nationally televised upset games, ...

(FYI - Miami's "punishment" to their players after their fight ... UTTERLY ****ING DISGUSTING! It still pisses me off that they were that soft!)

I thought the final footage of Blount shoving off teammates and security personnel with that "don't touch me!" attitude spoke volumes about him. "I'm too good for this team. I'm going to the NFL. I don't have to listen to any of you!" ... Seeya kid! Don't let the door hit ya in the ass!

If you run your mouth before hand and don't back it up in the game, you should expect to have it thrown in your face (however wrong it may be)

exactly. His prediction was as good as the one we experienced from the Falcons before the Super Bowl. If you are going to be that bold and not be able to take it face to face, then you have no business making the stupid prediction to begin with. If Oregon won that game, I wonder how he would have responded after his now infamous prediction.

OK, so I can instigate a fight by repeating your own trash talk? That is a load of crap.
