Broncos looking for WRs?
10:26
AM ETJabar Gaffney | Broncos Top Email Already without perturbed pass-catcher Brandon Marshall until September 6, the Broncos lost another receiver over the weekend. The Denver Post is reporting that Jabar Gaffney, who followed Josh McDaniels out from Foxboro, has a fractured thumb and could miss "several weeks".

Already thin behind Eddie Royal at receiver, this could force the Broncos to take a look at some of the options in the free agent market, such as Matt Jones or Marvin Harrison. Additionally, there were reports that the Eagles were looking to ship Reggie Brown out of Philly, and the Broncos might inquire about him as well.

I think reggie brown would be awesome, depending on what they are asking for him. Marvin is older but worth a shot. Anything to help kyle.

Harrison would be worthless. Our QB won't be able to get him the ball.

Royal, Stokely, and McKinnely doesn't scare anyone

Marshall just got some leverage.

Let's hope he's too stupid to realize this...

how many freakin' receivers can we keep? If we thought Jones or Harrison were better than what we had in camp, why didn't we go grab them earlier?

We've got Royal, Stokely, Marshall, Gaffney, Jackson, Lloyd, McKinley, and Swift. Even with Gaffney and Marshall out, we've still got 6 solid WRs.

I like Matt Jones...it looked like the switch turned on for him last year after he got arrested in the summer. I guess his legal issues have been keeping him off teams' radars.

Harrison is done.

Just tell Matt Jones about all the "snow" in Colorado and he will sign for peanuts....

I wouldn't mind going for Matt Jones. Whats the downside?

2 off the top of my head:

1. Suspensions.

2. His terrible case of "the suck"

He is going to be signed for peanuts, so what if he gets suspended.

"The Suck" is still a body - and a rather large one at that. And he used to play QB, you know in case both Simms and Orton are out Week 1 LOL

Exactly. I'd rather have Nate Swift than Marvin Harrison.

Really? The point of no return is often defined as being closer to the end than the beginning? Does it really seem that way with this "system"?

Not talking about the system, just trying to win the season opener in 13 days.

Opening week...No marshall, No Gaffney, Orton dislocated finger, Kuper Out, Knowshon not ready yet...

We may want to focus on Week 2... ;D

PFT is reporting Dexter Jackson got released. He had a lot of fans around here (particularly because he came cheaper but some real fans as well). I'm really surprised they've already given up on him.

Were his hands any good or did he just get hyped for his speed?

I wish we could see McKinley against a first team. He's looked damned good, albeit mostly against 2nd teams.

Funny, injuries at the RB position were an excuse for the Cutler apologists last season. I have a hunch the same people won't accept such excuses for Orton...

I would hope he gets that chance if he takes Gaffney's spot. At least get him in first half. Problem is that with one game left, how much are the first teamers going to be playing?

Orton's finger injury puts QB spot on the spot

Hurry up and heal, Chris Simms.

As the Broncos' quarterback situation stood Sunday night, there was a chance Simms was in position to heal from his left ankle sprain before Kyle Orton was able to recover from his right index finger injury.

Orton had a delayed reaction to his injury, which occurred following an incomplete pass on a third-and-2 play with 5:37 remaining in the first half. NBC cameras showed his right finger bleeding. It then appears his finger was yanked into place. Teammates could hear Orton scream in pain before he was escorted to the locker room.

Afterwards, his right finger was heavily bandaged but he would not reveal specifics of his injury, per instructions of Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.

Will Orton be ready by the season opener Sept. 13 in Cincinnati?

"I'm going to work as hard as I can," Orton said. "I don't know how long I'm going to be out, but mentally I'll be ready to go."

Simms suffered an ankle sprain last week against Seattle, but he is expected to be healed enough to play in a week.

Orton should be just as affective as Cutler was with injuries to the RB position. And McDaniel's need to juggle the injury bugs just like Shanny did.

I think if we sign a WR it would be idiotic.
Our WR depth is freakin fine.

Lloyd, Stokley, Chad Jackson, McKinley, Swift, all those guys are solid to have in there.

What is the point in signing a receiver, when we have no QB's who can throw. Get a 5th QB.. may be jake plummer is coming back to denver.

There isn't a WR we are going to bring that's going to scare anyone. Our QB's are incapable of throwing a long ball it seems. Royal has the ability to scare, but if the opposing team is geared up for the short passes, no one is going to scare them.

They have no RB's. They are one OT injury away from their season being over. They have the worst starting center in the game.

I doubt they're lookin that far ahead...just sayin.
