View Full Version : Broncos make it official signed quarterback Ingle Martin

The Broncos signed free agent quarterback Ingle Martin today and plan on playing the veteran in their preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals Sept. 3.

Martin, who has spent time with the Titans and Chiefs after being a fifth-round pick by the Packers in '06, worked out for the Broncos Tuesday evening.

The team saw enough in the workout to sign Martin this morning. With Chris Simms recovering from a severely sprained left ankle and not expected to play in the remainder of the preseason, Kyle Orton and rookie Tom Brandstater will split time in the preseason game Sunday night against the Bears.

Martin would then be available to play against the Cardinals. Martin attended team meetings this morning and was going to practice

When Cutler was setting passing records last season, you would have thought we would be reduced to Ingle Martin in less than a year....

It'll be interesting to see who wins the battle for #3 when Simms is healthy again.

Maybe Brandstater takes a trip straight to the PS

He's a backup quarterback.

Do you know what that means?

It means he backs up the starter. Doesnt play much. Only sees time if those ahead of him are injured.

So we haven't "been reduced to" anything.

Yeah, well, we're not.

Not unless you wanna say that the '97 team was "reduced" to Jeff Lewis.
Third team qb's don't have alot of relevance beyond giving a team options for mop up duty in preseason games.

Today?

Try the last 6 months...

Any move the team makes is frowned apon by the Kilq that has formed.

Team needed and other QB to take snaps. They went out and got one. It's not like he will make the final roster or even play in 2009.

Not necessarily, and in fact probably not. They don't feel comfortable with him being the only backup going into the season, and I think that's reasonable. He's a project that may be practice squad bound.

Kyle Orton has been in the NFL for four years that is 64 games he could have played in and he has appeared in 33. So while true it doesn't matter who are back up QB is because he is just that the back up lets not pretend that Manning or Farve is taking our snaps this year. For one reason or another (injury or performance reasons) Kyle Orton has missed a number of snaps in his career.

Now this time I think we are going to go a different route and not go trade our first round for a nickel/dime back, but a pass blocking tight end. O wait we traded our two third round picks for that, then lets go with a #3 receiver.

Elsewhere on the backup QB front...

Raheem Morris doesn't deny quarterback trade rumors
Posted by Mike Florio on August 26, 2009 3:16 PM ET

In the wake of reports that every Tampa quarterback not named "Josh Freeman" is available via trade, Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris said nothing to debunk the notion that Luke McCown, Byron Leftwich, or Josh Johnson could be had, for the right price.

"Everybody in this league, all 32 teams around this time, start calling other front offices. I can't control who calls us," Morris said Wednesday, according to Pewter Report. "Everybody is interested [in] everybody's roster. Everybody is looking to nit pick off other team's rosters. Everybody has talent, and you are trying to accumulate the best talent on your football team. That's just all that talk is."

McCown received a $2.5 million signing bonus from the Bucs during the offseason. Coincidentally, the Dolphins traded McCown's brother, Josh, to Carolina last year after giving him a $2.5 million signing bonus -- and then unexpectedly scooping up Chad Pennington from the Jets' trash pile.

If the Bucs aren't inclined to carry four quarterbacks, McCown could be in danger of being cut. Before making that call, the Bucs would surely like to recoup something for the free money that McCown received, especially since the Bucs currently are treating dimes like discuses.

Every QB in the league would be crying and segments of the fan-bases would be whining and b*tching about the McHead Coaches.
