Speaking at a town hall meeting in Sun City, Arizona on Tuesday, Senator John McCain and Congressman Trent Franks discussed health care but received boos when saying a positive remark about Pres. Obama.
Addressing United States President Barack Obama's health care reform plan at a town hall meeting on Tuesday in front seniors, Senator John McCain told cheering supporters that what is needed is to reform the private insurance system and not a government-sponsored system in order to lower costs, according to Arizona Central.
McCain said, "I want to reform health care. The costs are out of control. But let’s not forget the quality of health care is what must be preserved as well.” Congressman Trent Franks concurred with McCain's statement, "The highway of history is littered with the wreckage of socialism, and I don't want to see us go down that road."
After receiving cheers from the audience, a lady asked Sen. McCain a questioned, "I would like to know how the President is getting by with all of this money … It’s against the Constitution. Doesn’t he know that we still live under a Constitution?”
McCain replied, "I’m sure … I’m sure that he does." The audience laughed as they thought he was making the remark in jest but McCain interrupted the audience, "No, no, I’m serious. I’m sure that he does and I’m sure that he respects the Constitution of the United States."
The boos began to deafen the room but McCain tried to bring order back and explain his position, "No, no, no, no... Now wait, I really do. I’m absolutely convinced of it. I just believe, my friends, that there is a fundamental difference in philosophy about the role of government. That’s why we have competition for public office and competition amongst parties and competition about different ideas and visions for the future of America.”
"I am convinced the President is absolutely sincere in his beliefs." Once again, the audience booed at the Arizona Senator, "Wait a min … Wait a minute! I’m saying he’s sincere in his beliefs. We just happen to disagree and he is the President of the United States and let’s be respectful.”
