View Full Version : Should we follow the Cowboys 07 Preseason

I think Nolan should attack (blitz) in the preseason to see if we can muster any pressure on the QB with the group that we have. And it would also help to evaluate the players at their respective positions

The Cowboys were ridiculed by teams as well as the media for blitzing on almost every play during the preseason.

It was 07 when they did that to us, fyi

Last year we stomped them into the ground

We're going to blitz. A standard 3-4 rush includes a blitz from somewhere.

Should we go overboard blitzing 5+? No...

That was one of the most embarrassing displays I can remember, and I'm not talking about the game. The Broncos who complained about the Cowboys blitzing, as if they broke some kind of unspoken gentlemen's rule, was more humiliating than their performance. I can't even remember who it was, but they deserved to get punched in the nuts.

Technically if you rush four it isn't a blitz.

Yea...you really don't want to give other teams anything to game plan around before the season even starts!!

That would be Johnny Lynch (a year later).

No one cares because it was preseason. Preseason was to try new schemes and personel not a gentlemens game. You need to see where you stand.

I think this preseason we should work on our basic scheme because everything is new and so many new faces instead of being blitz happy this summer.

I remember the game. There were rumblings about all the blitzing because it was seen as Wade Phillips' way of 'getting back' at the Broncos. A few of our guys got nicked up in it as well, Travis Henry first injured his knee in that game IIRC...

That's the game where we lost Ekuban for the season too.

I didn't mind the blitzing, but I think in a preseason game it would be decent to give a heads up to the opposing coach.

No, you don't need to give a heads up to the other coach. It's like in boxing, a trainer tells his guy to never let his guard down, even after the bell is rang.

You tell your guys to go out and compete and to expect anything. There are guys out there trying to win a job and are playing hard. Same with coaches. I think most teams don't blitz in preseason because they don't want to show their packages, not because they don't want to offend somebody.

The NFL started in the 20's. There is a Base 4-3 and a base 3-4. I'm not sure we can shock anyone.

Dont forget the Ray Rhodes 2 man front

That worked for what a quarter? and then after we were getting pushed around for the rest of the game
