ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- On Tuesday, Denver running back Ryan Torain talked about the importance of staying healthy.

On Wednesday morning, the Broncos discovered that Torain had suffered a PCL strain in his right knee.

He had stayed healthy for the first 16 days of training camp. Torain, who was fighting for a roster spot, is expected to be out for the rest of the preseason.

A fifth-round pick last year, Torain was plagued by injuries at Arizona State. He suffered a left elbow injury in training camp last season that kept him out for three months and then he tore the ACL in his left knee in his first significant action during the regular season.

Denver signed running back Marcus Thomas on Wednesday. The team did not announce a corresponding roster move. If a move is being made on Torain, options include him being put on injured reserve or being waived/injured. I will give updates as the story developments.

Bummer, Torain's got tons of talent, but I don't think he can make it through a few games let alone an entire season.

Damn it. How bad is a strain and how important is a PCL?

Kinda sad because I think he has talent but at this point you have to believe his NFL career is close to over...

Has there been an MRI? If not, they know nothing. They always say strain or sprain before the MRI, but that could mean anything.

Can't he just get anything with a "CL" in it removed? I feel bad for the guy, he has a lot of talent.

Thank god we drafted Moreno and signed Buckhalter and Jordan, and we have Hillis, and we signed the new guy, and we have Darius walker. Man we have a lot of backups.

All that running back depth we added is looking like a smart move. Feel bad for the kid but some guys just can't stay healthy facing the pounding in the NFL. 3 years in a row of injuries now.

A PCL strain is nothing to worry too much about. A sprain would be much worse.

I feel for him personally but as far as the Broncos are concerned, So what. We lost a injury plagued upright runner. I have no idea what he did to get people so hyped about him. The whole half a game I saw him play in was piss poor.

He's pretty good at injuring himself if he strained a ligament. I always thought you could only sPrain ligaments and sTrain muscles. But, what do I know, I've only had enough sprains and strains to know the difference.

I bet kubes picks him up.

They were considering brining in the edge. They want a goaline back for slaton, but thought brown might do the job. However, he might get 6 games out of brown and 6 out of torian. That only leaves hall and slaton with 3 games each of exclusive goaline work.

I like it.

Well, we wont have to worry about what injuries he may encounter or the severity of these injuries anymore!!! I agree, this kid has LOADS of talent, but a lot of good that does for this football team if he NEVER PLAYS ANYWAY! Denver had 2 cut him loose. On the bright side, we have amazing talent in the backfield with Knowshon, Hillis (AKA MANCHILD!) and Buckhaulter so I think we'll be fine!

Pleeeeez give me a break! Injuries are a part of the game. You aren't a "Bust" because your body can't stay injury free! Its just bad luck. Shanny drafted Torain b/c he's talented not b/c of his history of injury.

Careers are cut short before they even begin b/c the bad luck of injuries. The human body is an incredible machine....but sometimes machines breakdown or are unrepairable.

After all its not like Torain was a slacker and never came to camp in shape!

That's a bit of a knee jerk reaction if you ask me, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him brought back at some point.

Why? He could of looked like the next Adrian Peterson but when you can't stay healthy what is your value? It is too bad because he was a surefire 2nd round pick or better had he stayed healthy in college but he's just too injury prone and can't stay healthy. He'll get another chance somewhere but not in a crowded backfield here in Denver. If they kept him it would be like cutting two guys, the guy you kept him over and Torain when he gets hurt again.
