it was ran absolutely perfectly. i think it was designed to be like a screen, let teh guys through, then an option in the backfield and the punter decided to keep it.

I personally liked Anubis's fake punt in preseason last year. Took the ball and threw it too himself 5 yds down the field only to be leveled by DJ. Champ would of made the tackle but he couldnt get his arms around me so i......i mean Anubis shrugged him off like a flea.

nope, not an option, just a decoy, he fake punted and had hte ball in his right hand, then took off.

THe best trick play ever was the Pass by Weese to Turner for 6 vs the Butt Pirates in 77.

As soon as I seen that guy in motion, I knew something was up.

Just didn't think it would turn into a TD.

b/c now every team will have to put in the time in practice to prevent it while the titans have no intention of ever actually running it.

Not on a punt play dude. Outside guys are gunning for the block, now Fisher showed and they wont be as eager to go after the punter now. Hence, less blocks.

*shakes head too* if you were playing against the Titans and you saw the end go in motion again, it would cue your outside rusher to hold contain. Its not rocket science. Also, you aren't going to always have your outside gunner try and block the punt, many times they will engage the blocker and get back to setup the punt return.

Either way, my point still holds true, this is a wasted great punt fake on a pointless preseason game. Its wasted bc you won't be able to use this again and make it successful unless the teams gunner is a Dumb SOB or isn't coached well.

They did it in preseason because its preseason...you think he does that for real with a division on the line?

You don't put plays in preseason just for ****s and giggles..so yes, I think it would've worked and could've been used in the regular season against an aggressive punt block.

I have the 72 Broncos season highlight video but don't know how to upload anything.

Anyway, on opening day 1972, our own Billy Van Huesen ran out of punt formation 66 yards for a TD at the end of the game, to secure a 30-17 win.

Here's the boxscore.

That was a great fake, but...

The only reason it succeeded was the awful roughing/running into the kickers penalty.
Two defender were in a great position to level the guy and instead they did everything they can to avoid contact.

I have no clue why Fisher would waste such a well-designed play in a meaningless preseason game. Sounds like the Titans need a 30-something coach to come in and clean up for a washed-up has-been.

No they see the guy go in motion again the outside rusher contains and the punter punts the ball with less rushers rushing him.

oh as far as them not being able to run it again and make it successful you might want to watch the wild cat formation.

My point still stands. If they hold up and contain then he gets less pressure rushing him for the punt. There still is the option that he hands the ball off to the guy in motion as well. Teams don't fake punt that much anyways it just gives teams something to think about if they see that guy go in motion which forces the other team to atleast think about this play. That's why Jeff ran this play.

They ran it in preseason because that was not the "real" play. Fisher now knows that his ST unit can run it and every defense will have to practice to stop it, but the Titans will run a variation on that play in the regular season.

I'll believe that when I see it...the reason why they ran it, I believe, is because they have absolutely no intention of running it (or any variation of it) in the regular season at all. We'll see I guess.

Did no one see the interview with Fischer during the game? He said he's wanted to run that play for years but had to wait until the backup punter was in so he didn't risk injuring Craig Hentrich. I don't know if they haven't had competition for Hentrich for a while or what, but that was Fischer's explanation.

When Fischer was asked about the play he said they ran the fake punt now because there is no way they could do it during the season because the punter would never agree to it. Strange excuse but ok...

Why would the punter agree to it in the preseason then?

Could you imagine a Fisher meltdown after they send that play in and the punter calls timeout to disagree with the playcall?

My guess is the reason why you 'waste' this in the preseason is so that everyone sees it, because the next time you run the play - in the regular season - they want teams thinking twice. And then they will do something different outta the same formation.

Just a guess.

that play took some balls by that punter. They had as clean a shot as you can get on someone and he stayed in there and even fake kicked. That could have ended his career if they nail him with his leg in the air. no way in hell you run that in regular season punter would get murdered.
