I get your point, but why are players saying it's just sad. David Bruton said something along the lines of having an opportunity to earn a starting position and needing to step up... Something doesn't add up.

Dawkins is too tough to let his career succumb to a hand injury. I bet he doesn't miss a game because of it.

logic of most offseason newspapers trying to create a store where there is none:
1. dawkins is old
2. dawkins has an injury
3. old players with injuries are career enders
4. dawkins must be ending his career

What was that dude they had that had a pinkie injury a few years ago that ended his season. A defensive tackle named Davis or something.

Broncoman13

I am curious like the othes though, what could he have done to his hand to make it "career ending"? Short of amputation, I don't see how it could end his career.

TSN is the ****tiest sports reporting media outlet out there! Everything they have written this offseason regarding the Broncos has been so far from reality, it makes Disney World look like...well you get my point!

TSN's crack team of journalists ran with this story from the tweet of a Philly beat writer! WTF? Dawkins is fine. He'll play for Denver this year and The Sporting News will continue to be the septic tank of sports writing!

Me too

I'm very curious of the wording that some of the players are using regarding this 'just a broken hand' injury.

I was thinking - aren't there tendons, veins and whatnot that run thru your hand as well as bones? To those asking how a 'simple' broken hand can end a career - what are the long term effects if something other than a bone is damaged in your hand?

especially a DB whose game isn't really based on intercepting passes. his entire game at this stage in his career is built around crushing dudes who run across the middle of the field. give him a cast and let the good times roll

There was some guy ("buzzkillington"?) on the DMac and Oren show last night talking about how it was a broken hand, he'd had surgery already and that he'd be out for another 10 days minimum. He said he had spent a lot of yesterday trying to get the true story from Dawkins' agents' office, broncos staff members, etc. Seemed pretty legit and he didn't seem to think it was too serious.

That's what I was thinking. Let's not over analyze the comment of someone who has limited exposure speaking to the media on a regular basis and is trying to earn a roster spot on a pro football team and, at the same time, not insult a Pro Bowl and well-respected teammate.

I am pretty sure we'll see BDawk in orange & blue come September.

Mr. Elway
08-07-2009, 12:33 PM
And if you read Bruton's quote in context it was in the vein of "yeah, Dawkins is hurt right now, and that's sad, but I get a shot and I'm going to step up and make the most of it."

Not "Brian Dawkin's hand injury? Let's just say it's really sad."

And Bruton probably said that to temper his excitement--b/c after all, as a rookie, he is getting starting reps now with BDawk out......so please don;t read into Bruton's comments any deeper than that

Bingo! You nailed it.

That was exactly what I was thinking when I saw the interview. I felt, like you, that he was showing sympathy because he just got promoted, and didn't want to come off as benefitting from someone's injury.

He did not seem to say "it's sad" because he thought the injury was real serious.

Until Dawkins himself holds a press conference to say I'm done...then hes not. And speculating about an article written by a guy using 2nd and 3rd hand sources to bang out a hack piece of writing is sad. All acting like somebody bitch slapped your mothers or something.

:Broncos:

He didn't. His "source" could be the Broncos gift store cashier for all we know, if it was anyone. Also, bloggers need/want people to read thier blog; that is their lifeblood.

What better way to attract attention than to speculate about a star player and throw a bunch of s*** against the wall, then sit back and watch the frenzy. He doesn't need to be accurate because he isn't accountable to anyone.

He's catering the story towards Eagles fans. There is the 70% of the fanbase that just can't picture him in another uniform because they still love him and the 30% that think its his deserved end for leaving the Eagles and their lowball offer. I have a blog too, and tonight I may write that Priest Holmes is gonna make a comeback bid with either the Colts or Harlem Globetrotters depending on highest offer. Doesn't mean I didn't just make it up hoping that Bob would scoop me and offer it as premium content at WPI.

Sorry guys I just get emo over the Broncos. I am starved for good news and success like all of you are also.

You're forgiven :-) ...no one wants to think about Dawkins being done. That would be unwelcome news indeed, but I doubt that is the case and lets just wait and get an official word whenever first. If he was really done, and McD and the rest of the staff knew it now, they will let us know in short order.

But I seriously doubt he is done. And even if he can't play for a while he'll still be there as motivator in chief and teacher/mentor extraordinaire for the other DBs, so it wouldn't be a total loss.... but he'll be back knocking people out before long and in the meantime this means more quality time for Bruton, Barrett and McBath to bring them quicker up to speed.
