Attempting to avoid the logjam of unsigned first-round picks around Michael Crabtree, the Broncos and Knowshon Moreno have begun intense contract talks on an "independent" basis.
Negotiations for players picked from Nos. 8-11 seem to be going backwards. "We are working into the wee hours of the morning," coach Josh McDaniels said late Wednesday about talks with Moreno. Getting Moreno signed could get the ball rolling with No. 11 pick Aaron Maybin. Crabtree went 10th overall. Aug. 6 - 8:55 am et

Knowshon seems like he just wants to play, but obviously no matter the personality each kid still gets a specific amount in relation to their position and draft spot due to their agents.

Good sign! Ity shows that Moreno wants to get into camp and start practicing. It's goota be bugging him to see the positive reports on Buckhalter, Torain, Hillis, etc.

Thanks for the post!!

Rotoworld pulled this from a Denver Post article (read it earlier this morning) and left out a bit of the context (although, it still doesn't make a ton of sense):

If Moreno waited for those ahead of him to reach agreements to slot in his contract, the Broncos may not get their new running back for at least another week. Negotiations for the Nos. 8-11 picks seem to be making no progress.

So the Broncos and Moreno's agents have left the group and independently engaged in intense negotiations. The next 24 hours are expected to be critical to an agreement.

"We are working into the wee hours of the morning," Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said.

so they are working on the contract without a ceiling, but it does have a floor (orakpo).

"Its almost there" has been reported so many times, its hard to take anything seriously at this point.

The article almost implies that picks 8 - 12 have been negotiating as a big group or something. Like they are all in one big room working on all 5 contracts. I know that isn't exactly what they are saying, but "left the group" indicates some sort of coordinated effort, which I have never heard of.

Relax, I heard on the light rail that last night McDaniels told Bowlen "I'll take care of it."

The whole rookie contract system is a joke.

Busts get paid huge contracts, teams have to keep them around longer afraid they will lose out on the pick, etc...

They need to fix this.

With the Crabtree news, it's likey most of the others will sign on their own soon, too. F Crabtree, F his agent and F Al Davis for ruining the scale with his Bey signing.

agree. It is an injustice in the league that vets who have proved they belong in the NFL have to deal with these highly rated college players getting such a payday although they have proved nothing.

I wonder why this systems exists. Those that promote it are probably the agents and college football. College football makes big bucks and the players get nothing. The NFL draft payday is an extra motivation for many players to keep playing hard in college.

The sooner Moreno gets to camp the better! Kudos to him and his agent to take the high road with the Broncos and try to work a deal so he can get into camp. This says a lot about Moreno, IMHO.

Exactly. Who the hell does Moreno think he is? He hasn't done anything in the NFL. Why should he try to get a standard bump over what we paid Clady last year? Its not like he doesn't happen to play the position with the shortest life span in the NFL or anything. He should take what the Broncos give him and be happy, who cares if even a HOF career for him will likely result in a serious case of drop foot or multiple knee replacements. He should play for the love of the game, everything else is just gravy!

Knowshon's going to be fine, in all reality and this reflects nothing upon him or the organization.

Worst case scenario is he's in camp mid-preseason and Hillis is doing the majority of the RB work for a few games until Turner gets him all schooled up.

Non-issue, imo. The main keys he already has, all he has to do is learn pass-pro, playbook and reading zone blocks.
