Right between Slovenia and Cuba. And Cuba is beating us out! Ha!

Not only that, but our system is the most expensive in the world.

Meh Americans play hard, party hard, drive fast, die younger but a few yrs avg difference doesn't mean much to me.

A better indicator is what the survival rate is after being diagnosed with a severe illness.

Americans just don't take care of themselves that well. We party too much, do tons of drugs, have tons of traffic deaths, tons more violent deaths etc etc.

IMO there is nothing to that stat that is a reflection on our healthcare.

The numbers I see has Americans surviving Cancer, Aids, etc at a higher rate then many of those countries.

Of course Cubans live long. What can they do but sit around on the island and do what govt tells them to do? Not like they can eat bad they can't afford burgers and fries. Drive fast and die on freeway? forget about it they are stuck in homes with no electricity.

American live dangerous lives, many of us party hard, play hard, and look at life as something you just go for, no holds barred!!!

IMO I'd rather live like we do and live 4-5 less yrs then to be Cuban.

We don't eat properly and we have a higher stress level as we try to keep up with the Jones'. When we do relax, our vacations can be as stressful as everyday life.

I sincerely doubt that there are any records for "surviving" AIDS as there is no cure and it's tough to see a trend when looking at who is "living" with it as it depends on how many cases there are to begin with.

As far as cancer the US has one of the highest rates for survival, but when looking at the overall stats, white people in America have a very high rate of survival while it drops for other races which is directly related to health care. You can find that anywhere on the net.

What is interesting is many people in countries around the world come to the U.S. for healthcare, especially for major operations and care for serious illnesses. The U.S. drug use is quite high as well, which probably doesn't help in living long lives.

Diet! Obesity is out of control.

Most countries with single payer healthcare emphasize prevention, the US diet and portion size is 'preventable.'

All good points which further illustrate its not the healthcare, but the way Americans choose to live.

We have great doctors and great hospitals.

I'm not saying we don't have a problem with some people not having access to it.

I will say though that life expectancy being 4-5 yrs more in some other countries means very little IMO. It does not reflect on our doctors and healthcare as much as it does how we live, party, work, and play so hard.

Is there a list of murders per capita? We love to kill each other in this country.I've posted it many times but the NRA crowd always tries to throw in disclaimers of some sort. Wiki shows the U.S. with 5.8 homicides per 100,000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate)

Also stats like this often way off. Countries all have different reporting procedures, different ways of classifying deaths. Did you know some countries don't avg in the deaths of children who live less then a certain amount of time? Some countries leave out accidental deaths like auto accidents.

I mean cmon world so big, so many countries, so many things happen govt doesn't know about, things don't get reported, some countries outright lie etc etc etc. No one really naive enough to believe the stats or accurate......right? Cmon people be realistic.

Well, the solution of coarse is to regulate and reduce caloric intake. If we could find a way to get some money + raise taxes on fast food, that would be great. Also, can’t we enforce a fat tax of some type? I mean, if Big Brother is going to pay for it anyway shouldn’t they have a right to dictate the behavior of big people that add selfish cost to the collective? Fast food executives should be added to the black list -- they are murderering (through their greed) minorities at a disportionately high number. PETA could be called to throw some blood at folks in drive throughs?

Just trying to help out and position myself for any Czar job, after mine is destroyed on purpose.

They estimate costs so well, I cant see how it woudl ever cost more if Big Brother takes over...

Its all about creating a framework right now in healthcare -- after that is setup they will add flesh, pound by pound.

Have you noticed how long the list seems to be getting of all the bad guys out there? Last year it was only big oil, now we have another 12 groups or so that all happen to be private industry) that are evil...
