The Europeans are fascinated by Obama. When I travel over there, I am constantly asked, "You must be so so excited about your new President." That's all anyone wants to talk about.

Ugh...the French like us now? I may have to reconsider things. ;D

I think its great. Fact is Obama has not really changed US policy much. IMO him saying hey Iran let's talk, and them saying **** you doesn't mean change. He's pulling out of Iraq but not really a quick pullout. Still fighting there really. In Afghanistan he escalated it and is using drones in Pakistan.
I think its great though if we can continue to kick ass, overthrow people in Central America, keep giving money to the Israel, tell N Korea they are spoiled children, make life miserable for terrorists in the hills of Pakistan and people like us more for no good reason I say cool.
Obama should use his popularity wisely though because this sort of love affair won't last past a couple yrs.

I think the biggest issue is not Obama's popularity by why people are so unwilling to do anything for a President they support? I get the stimulus package but so few Americans actually understand what they have. One guy was bitching to me about Obama after buying a new car, a new house and enjoying his new G.I. Bill. **** that guy. He put $30,000 in his pocket and does not even get where it came from.

My immediate reaction is one of skepticism. I mean the French have a higher opinion of the US than the Canadians? That is highly suspect.

Don't be skeptical. As I said, I travel to Europe on business and while I have spent more time of late in Germany and Switzerland than France, I have run into some French people.
The comments are pretty much all the same. It starts with a question like, "Oh, you must be so excited about your new President" and usually there is something about "Obama will bring peace to the world" or something to that extent.
It would be interesting to find polls on it, but virtually every European that I have talked to about it has been against BOTH Iraq wars (I've run into a few that believe we fabricated the justification for the first Gulf war, so you can imagine how they feel about the second).
The reason France is higher now is because of the Obama bump. The European's are in love with Obama (as clearly many Americans are). I'm sure it is helped that he traveled to Europe during his campaign, and has constantly held up Europe and their ways (French health care for instance) as examples of what America could aspire to be.

That is highly suspect. Why would anyone question a higher planetary approval of Obama than Bush? I mean, at least this president can form proper sentences and then actually say them without sounding like a mentally challenged 2nd grader.

Typical how you took an opportunity to attack Bush, but maybe you should read the statements you quote before spouting off.
He was skeptical because France had a higher approval number than Canada. One presumes this surprises him because the French are known to be very anti-American.

And also if you read the poll a little closer you will understand the Bush comparison since duh, the numbers for 2007 came from during his administration.
Anything else?

So, what do you think of Liz and Dick Cheney going around the nation saying how much U.S. policy has changed?

I didn't say it wasn't a Bush/Obama thing. Obviously, I understand that since I have posted two posts about how the Euros are in love with Obama.
However, your reply to him missed his point, and just an excuse for you to hop into your Bush bashing rather than discussing the topic of the thread.

I didn't say it wasn't a Bush/Obama thing. Then what's the problem? Bush turned the entire planet against us and Obama has a much better planetary acceptance.
just an excuse for you to hop into your Bush bashing rather than discussing the topic of the thread.
So what's the topic of the thread again?

To tell you the truth I haven't listened to one thing from them outside of the Cheney saying America is less safe, or something like that.
I guess I don't see moving prisoners in Cuba somewhere else a big deal, certainly nothing that would make people all the sudden like America.
