No, as much as people want overhype current political disagreements, they don't even close to underlying turbulence this country has faced in the last 100 year after 1865.

This isn't a civil war scenario - it's a federal dissolution scenario. Like what happened to the Soviet Union.
We wake up one morning and Barry is on TV explaining that the federal government is insolvent, and he's calling the game.
This goofball is, after all, Russian. He watched this scenario play out in his homeland in his youth, and has convinced himself that the same causal factors are currently in play for America.
He's overlooked a couple of things of course:
The Soviet Union was only 70 years old, and had been forged out of truly disparate countries. Forged by fear and force. So when it went away, people celebrated.
The US is one country, 230 years old, with a very strong national identity. If the federal government were to dissolve due to economic factors, there would be a united interest in quickly reforming a new one to take it's place.
Also, take into account that Barry has strong hero worship for Lincoln going on - if he were faced with this problem, no way he will let the Union dissolve on his watch.
No way. No matter how many people have to die, go to internment camps, be deprived of their rights temporarily, no matter the cost. Barry will stay the course. Because that's what his hero did.
Bank it.

And of course, it has been impossible for the citizenry to fight back against their government in any meaningful way for at least a hundred years.
Time was, a guy with a rifle could make a difference - if he banded together with enough of his fellows. That time is long past.
The nature of warfare has fundamentally, profoundly changed.
Some of the blogs Aames posted a while back on 5GW (fifth generation warfare) are interesting - in a nutshell, the only way to fight the industrial military complex would be to once again fundamentally change the nature of warfare.
The next war will be fought in cyberspace - with camcorders.
Of course, the powers that be are aware of this as well, and are prepared to fight and win in a 5GW battle space if required.
Or, they'll just crash the internets.

I don't think a civil war is imminent. That said, if the dollar were to collapse, I don't believe we'd survive as the United States as we know today. I think that we'd either balkanize, similar to what this gentleman suggests, or we'd super-unionize, by forming a new currency with Mexico and Canada.
If there WAS a civil war, I expect that it would be the Federal Government going after states or militias responding to such super-unionization. It would probably be a short-lived rebellion.

Im on record as saying there will not be civil war...but if there was...I think you are completely wrong.
State militias would spring up and, due to the nature of the US military, would fight the government using terrorist tactics, but instead of targeting innocents, they would target legitimate government targets which some might say are innocents but if you work for the government and a civil war happens, whether military or not, you are no longer ally, you are enemy.
Guerilla urban warfare will bog down the US military machine, add to the fact that the SOLDIERS are Americans and will not stomach a prolonged war against their own people. Add to that the rate of defections from the military as you have to surmise that many of them would be willing to join their state militias and fight against the regime.
However, there is only one scenario in which I think civil war in this country happens. When the Middle Class is no longer content (and, despite a lot of people out of work, the Middle class is, by and large, content and will remain so for the foreseeable future IMO). IF that day ever comes though, civil war could break out in a large scale as people begin to get desperate.

HAHA now youre sounding like Marx (never thought i'd hear that!) Though I'd amend it and say a middle class lead lower class. But time has changed way too much, I just don't see that kind of organization and uprising happening in today's american society. I think the class lines are too blurred in America (classes actually exist, but i dont think people truly understand the differences).

There was a study back in the 80's or 90's I think, and IIRC something like 78% of soldiers surveyed said they would not fire on fellow Americans.

I think the Americans could be very easily terrorized so I think there would definitely be a new brand of warfare but I think the blueprints are out there already. Just have to hone it to Americans and that'd be fairly easy. I think we're a relatively soft nation compared to some of the nations of the world.
I also think it would be a class based war, if it were to happen. The rich elite run this country currently and I think it'd be them vs everyone else with the government being on the side of the rich. The rich would flee when their money couldn't do all the work for them and it'd be over quickly but destroy everything in its occurance.
The current administration's class warfare programs won't help repair the relations between the classes but I don't think it's anywhere near war time.

Yes there will be, nd a bill has a;;ready been exective ordered that federal troops can fire on state and local militias.
One line allredy has been crossed. Do you ever remember Nation Guard troops overseas? Local armories have been left with junk, other than older F-16's.
Obama also has stated the intention to create a "Peoples" militia of 2M, which will not be ruled by the states, but Washington, a peace corps with guns. Many of they be out of work minorities.
Ever check the availlability of ammo? There are also plans to "date" ammo.
