Denver claims receiver off waivers from K.C.

June 24, 2009 8:00 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson

The Broncos claimed receiver C.J. Jones off waivers from Kansas City.

Jones has New England ties, where he played for new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.

Jones was on New England's active roster for one game in 2008. He was on New England's practice squad for the entire 2007 season.

Former New England executive and new Kansas City general manager Scott Pioli signed Jones in March, but he was waived last week. While Jones clearly intrigues McDaniels, he has to be considered a long shot to make Denver's 53-man roster.

Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, C.J. Jones, Josh McDaniels, Scott Pioli

Oh sure, now you think about trying out. If you had only tried out a few years ago for DL while Shanny and Slowick were around you probably would have made the team..................hahahaha.

Oh hell yeah!

If KC cut him, he must be a hot commodity. Now we can tell Marshall to suck it.

I fear the day that NE has to trim its roster down to 53 players.

A lot of these players are just guys who will make a little money bouncing around trying to make a roster, but really knowing they are practice fodder.

But shouldn't we be bringing in players with the potential to contribute? Does McBeavis know there are 31 teams out there?

Oh right, we allready have the index card filled out...

they sign when they get job opportunities and do their best to make the squad, is there really anything wrong with that?

you know, I realize we already have a lot of running backs, but if Marshall leaves, we need another idiot to beat up women, you think we could get LJ, I mean if we are taking all of KC's rejects...

BTW...just kidding...only 2 KC players I ever had use for are already on new teams

I read somewhere that Denver already had 80 players on the current roster. Have they cut someone to make room for this person? If so, who.? Anyone know?

9 out of 10 roster moves in the dead of summer are meaningless. It's about finding bodies and saying 'what the hell'. You never know. Maybe you get lucky and one or two stick as special teamers.

Patterns continue. The Broncos sign anybody and I mean, anybody, and you have some joking it means Super Bowl, while others find some way to bash McDaniels for bringing in a body for camp and somehow believing that he must think he's the greatest player in the world.

are you serious? Give me a friggin break. Teams are constantly looking for players who can practice and provide a body for training camp.

Often as your frontline players get dinged you need guys to run routes so the dbacks can continue to work.

Many of these players realize making the team a huge longshot.

For people to scrutinize little moves like this, then bash the new coach is a total joke and shows how little you know about how football teams operate.

some of you never cease to amaze me, I actually wonder often if you are this negative in other areas of your lives and if so...you must ****ing hate your lives

short of 16-0 and a super bowl some of you won't be happy...I can just see it now if Denver by some magical stroke of luck made it to the big one and lost...people here would slam McDaniels for it

we got a WR someone else didn't want that is a former Pat, who ****ing cares...he may not make the team but what if he does and does well?

James Harrison is a great example of someone that wasn't given up on
