Critics hate Michael Bay. It's as simple as that. They hate the fact that this guy makes $500 million or more each time he cranks out a movie with CGI and explosions instead of an actual plot with some deeper meaning/purpose. You shouldn't let them sway you.

So long as you don't go into this movie expecting Gone with the Wind, and you like his other movies, I'm sure you'll probably like this one.

Well, that kills it. MORE than the last one? It was the awkward, inappropriate "humor" from the first one that just about sank it for me. If it weren't for the cool robots, that movie would have sucked. Good thing it had the robots. I still can't shake hearing Jazz say, "What's kickin' bitches." Man, that was stupid.

I'm VERY disappointed to hear there is MORE of that crap in the 2nd. Please tell me you're joking.

Saw it last night. It was not very good at all. I'd say 40% of the dialogue is just stupid jokes trying to make the movie funny.

REVIEW: TRANSFORMERS - REVENGE OF THE FALLEN

* By Devin Faraci
* Published Today
* Reviews
*

This isn't one of those negative reviews where the critic bemoans how stupid the big summer blockbuster is (although Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is stupid beyond belief. Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman claim that Michael Bay locked them in a hotel room for a month to write this movie; they obviously spent 29 and a half days watching pay per view porn and ordering room service); those kinds of pans are from sticks in the mud who either don't get blockbuster films or who are fighting a battle we lost back in 1985. No, this is one of those negative reviews that looks at a two and a half hour movie about giant robots fighting each other and asks just one question:

How can this movie be so ****ing boring?

It's astonishing. Coming off of the very successful (and highly entertaining) Transformers, Michael Bay had the opportunity to make a movie that delivered chaos and destruction to his heart's delight. Instead he reveals a fetish for comic relief characters (there are SEVEN OR EIGHT comic relief characters in this film, many of whom spend most of the running time hanging out together) and a profound inability to create any sense of pacing. Sitting through Revenge of the Fallen is a tedious experience, a slog through absolutely meaningless bull**** to get to action scenes that are so sloppy that they seem to have been improv'ed on the spot. If the action scenes in the first film struck you as hard to follow you'll likely have no idea what's going on in the action scenes in this film. ILM has created photo-real giant robots that are fantastically detailed with thousands of moving parts and then failed to come up with any way to let the audience tell them apart. There are scenes in the final battle where I had literally - without hyperbole - no idea if the one robot hitting the other robot was a good guy or bad guy, let alone which character was which. The action scenes become semi-impressionistic melanges of metalic parts and explosions. Fights take place in featureless landscapes to hide the fact that not even the director has a single clue who is doing what in relation to which characters.

It seems so simple: deliver more and bigger robot action. But Bay keeps coming back to the human characters, not a single one of which are interesting or otherwise diverting. The film sidelines the Autobots (who are now working closely with the US military) for nearly the entire running time, and instead we're forced to hang out with a team of unfunny, irritating misfits. When John Turturro's returning Sector Seven agent is your most nuanced character you know you've really **** the bed.

And the action, when it's decipherable, offers nothing new. There's not a moment in this movie that threatens to even come close to the set pieces in the first, forget about topping them. In fact the lengthy final battle (which is like a fractal element of the entire film, as it is stuffed with filler and irritating comedy) appears to completely recycle the location of the Scorponok scene in the first movie. There's a fight in a forest that could have offered up some exciting possibilities, but besides the obvious pummeling with trees, the scene is forgettable. Walking into a movie like Transformers you must have your expectations lowered, but the one place that you hope to be impressed is with spectacle. Michael Bay fails at this, the most basic part of his job as a junk food director.

I never want to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen again, but if I did, I would like to bring a stopwatch. I would want to time the interminable filler scenes to see if they are as long as they feel. Does the scene where Shia's mom accidentally eats pot brownies and freaks out (which in no way, shape or form advances the story OR the characters. It's the actual definition of filler) really go on for as long as it seems? Does the movie really take an almost hour long break from any action to have the characters sneak into the Smithsonian and get an exposition dump from a robot before wandering in the desert for a while? The middle of the movie, about an hour where the film simply treads water, is the cinematic equivalent of the event horizon of a black hole, where time just slows down and a second lasts an eternity.

Critiquing the actors in this film is almost a waste of time. Shia LaBeouf is given nothing that even approximates a character; at the junket Orci and Kurtzman gave some lip service to this being his character's Refusal of the Call story (any time a writer references the Monomyth, tell them to **** off), but that's not present in the movie. There's nothing in the movie; the character of Sam Witwicky simply moves from location to location and from scene to scene as... well, I was going to say as the story dictates, but Revenge of the Fallen has almost no story at all. It's simply a series of events that are interconnected but never really add up to anything. I know that saying an action movie 'has no story' is pretty cliche by now, but I think Revenge of the Fallen is almost literally plotless; there are a couple of vague ideas about plot - the Fallen wants revenge and Sam has info in his brain that he wants - but that's just about it. It's like a movie based on a TV Guide description.

Everybody else ranges from servicable to horrifyingly bad. Ramon Rodriguez, who plays Shia's new (comic relief) roommate (who could be erased from the film without altering one single tiny piece of the story. At all. The character embodies uselessness), should never again be allowed to act. Or at least he should never be allowed to start acting, since the hideous mugging he does in this film shares no DNA with what we know as acting. Megan Fox remains attractive but as long as Michael Bay is her director we'll never know if she's capable of anything else. And everyone else: most embarrass themselves and their families, but they have paychecks to comfort them. Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel have such small roles in this film that they come across as master thespians in their few moments of screentime.

I hated this movie. Despised it. During the screening I turned to Aint It Cool News' Mr. Beaks and said 'This is grueling.' He checked his watch and less than an hour had gone by - and we hadn't even gotten to the real filler yet (there is enough filler in this movie to provide the entire runtime of another film. There's about 90 minutes of absolute nothing smack dab in the center of Revenge of the Fallen). And we hadn't even gotten to the point where it became obvious that no one involved in the film cared enough to craft even the most rudimentary of stories or to be concerned about even the most simple of continuity: at one point the characters walk out of the back door of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC and end up blatantly in Arizona at the Sorona Desert Airplane Graveyard. It's a breathtaking moment of not giving a ****, one that gives you an idea of how little thought and care went into the construction of the film.

What bums me out is that there's not even much to laugh at in this movie. There's a scene at the end where Shia dies and goes to robot heaven (and I am not making this up), but that's too little too late. If the rest of the movie had featured that kind of inane absurdity I might have been able to take the ride, but the rest of the movie is just dull.

The thing about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is that it's an objectively bad film. The comedy doesn't work (and there's oh so ****ing much of it), the characters are so flat you can't see them from the side, the plot has so many holes you begin to think surrealism was the point, the actors are bored, the action scenes are incoherent, the finale is a staggering anti-climax, the villain makes cyphers seem fully rounded, the pacing perfectly replicates the concept of 'death march'... there's nothing that works in this film. The fact that the illusion of movement is created onscreen may be Michael Bay's greatest and only triumph in this movie. Terry Schiavo would have been bored by this bloated, ponderous piece of ****.

Note: I saw the film in IMAX. Only a few minutes of the film are shot in true IMAX, and those minutes are not complete sequences. Random shots will appear in IMAX, meaning that the aspect ratio for one shot will change. Take into account how quick your average Michael Bay shot is and you'll understand how bizarre this decision was. Another sign that nobody making the movie gave a ****.

Ok just got back from it a bit ago, first off...DO NOT LISTEN TO THE CRITICS THAT ARE GIVING THIS MOVIE BAD REVIEWS!!! This was a great movie, lots of explosions and fights, the comedy made me laugh, just overall a fun entertaining movie. Critics hate it because they nit-pick small details, you will like it though if you go into it just wanting to be entertained. Soundwave is in this, dinobots aren't, and they start scratching the surface of the distain Megatron and Starscream have for each(gets a little physical even.) Seriously, go see this movie!!!(yes the 360 cam is used, and so is slow motion shots of Megan Fox running!!!)

I'm sure this movie will be entertaining just as the first one was. That said, they approached this movie series the wrong way.

I was a big fan of the cartoons when I was a kid and it was all about the robots. The character development, the relationships, the motivations, everthing was about the robots. Humanity and Earth was just a backdrop.

I haven't seen this one yet, but that was where they missed out on the first one. They focused WAY too much on developing the human characters and made the robots unrelatable, and superficial. Optimus had the same voice which brought back memories, but even he was hard to rally behind.

Too bad they had to put their own spin on it. The Transformers cartoon movie is still one of my favorites, it would have been cool to see a live action version of that.

So true. The first one had such potential to be a classic. Instead, it was a forgettable popcorn flick with horrible casting, acting, dialogue and humor.

I don't understand how Hollywood often screws up a sure thing. The story was already there. There was no need to bring in Bay and his ego and let him orgasm all over it. Just look at the recent comic book movies. They (minus a couple of exceptions) took the original stories, modernized it and adapted it from paper to the big screen, without butchering it. Simple.

The jokes were funnier than the first, but that was the only thing I liked better. I don't want to say anything to ruin it for anybody, but I will say this.

Simple.

Exactly...

Spider-Man (minus 3), Iron Man and the Batman Reboot have all been rock solid. It's a shame that Hulk still failed though.

Hopefully Thor and Captain America can do just as good.

Just saw Revenge of the Fallen. VERY GOOD movie IMO. Much better than the first. (Similar to the growth that the 2nd X-men movie had over the 1st edition.) Still kinda taking the story their own way away from what the G1 cartoons were all about but it's told much better than T1 and the action is amazing.

The only down side was it's a little long and the last battle seems to take forever with little situations popping up that stall out the suspense. It's like being on a high for too long, the mind starts to drift.

It does have sappy kid humor in it but it will get most to laugh. Shia is pretty good about making people laugh even if the jokes are corny, kinda like Ryan Reynolds.

They actually were more accurate with the robots this time. They casted Soundwave and he was pretty sweet. He sounds more like one of the Quintesson's from Transformers the Movie but it's actually Frank Welker, the original voice of Soundwave.

They hint at the tension between Megatron and Starscream but Starscream never really feels like a threat to him.

The real treat of this movie is that they finally did Optimus Prime justice. He is BADASS! The middle fight scene in the woods is one of the best that I've ever seen, CGI or real. If you have ties to Transformers and/or loved them at some time, you'll get goosebumps. Seriously.

If you got 2 and half hours to spare and are looking for the best action flick this year, check it out. I'd probably give it 8/10 but i'm a big Transformer fan and thats with the issues, cheesy Marvel style humor and simply put, it's about 30 minutes too long. However if they could have made the movie tighter at about 2 hours top, it would easily be a 9 in my book.

PS: Spare me the bull**** about people taking this movie so seriously. It's meant to wash over you and have great action. It's f'n robots that transform for christsake. No need to find the greater purpose. Just sit back, eat some terrible theatre food and watch Optimus Prime kick some ass.

One day in and it's already setting records:

LOS ANGELES – Those "Transformers" robots are record-breakers at the box office.

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" opened with $60.6 million domestically in its first day, a new high for a Wednesday debut, according to distributor Paramount.

The previous best Wednesday opening was $44.2 million for "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" in 2007.

The "Transformers" sequel also came in with the second-biggest single-day revenues, behind only "The Dark Knight," with $67.2 million. "The Dark Knight" opened on a Friday.

Fans stayed up into the wee hours to be the first to see the "Transformers" sequel, which took in $16 million from midnight screenings alone.

Paramount projected the movie would follow with $25 million on Thursday and climb to at least $150 million by the end of the weekend. In just five days, that would put it to nearly half the $319 million total the first "Transformers" film did during its entire run in 2007.

If you go into a movie called "Transformers" expecting some sort of epic storyline and no corny lines then you have a wrong idea of what this movie is supposed to be.

This isn't a shot at the poster above, but a lot of people have expectations that this is supposed to be "best picture" material.

I just saw it and I had more fun watching this movie than I've had watching something in awhile. The special effects were second to none, the comedy was there corny or not, and the storyline wasn't that bad.

The flick was badass!!!

The Good:
Fox and the other chick...WOW
The action/effects
I liked the story and the history of the Primes
The comedy during the first half

The Bad:
The twins...kinda Jar Jar Binks-ish for my taste
The comedy towards the end. As funny as this movie was as a whole, the comedy got in the way once the fighting started. Tried a bit too hard there for my liking.
The language...either make it an R film, or let me be able to take my kids to it. I don't remember any moments in the first movie where I had to wonder if it was appropriate for the little ones. Kinda disappointed in the unnecessary cursing that was meant for weak laughs.

Overall, I gave the first one a 10/10 and see it as this generation's "Independence Day". This sequel did NOT disappoint and the bulk of it was on par w/ #1. Ignoring the language (cuz it doesn't bother ME...I just won't take my kids), the poorly constructed late jokes did take a toll in my eyes. For a 2.5 hr movie, it did NOT drag on or get boring. These flicks are what they are. They will not win Oscars for Best Picture, but they are fun as hell to watch over and over. Very well done IMHO...8.5/10

I don't understand how anyone who grew up on the Original Cartoon couldn't love this movie?

Soundwave and Ravage? Present and awesome.

Megatron vs Starscream? Much more apparent than the ONE line they gave them in the original "You fail me again Starscream"

Optimus Prime kicking everyone's ass in the woods? I had that 80s "You've got the touch" song going in my head.

Matrix of Leadership put back into the story? Yup

Constructicons? Yes

The effects were awesome. The jokes so corny you have to laugh.

My ONLY complaint is how the decepticons "un"transformed tend to all look alike. At times at the huge battle at the end I wasn't sure at first glance if it was Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave or the Fallen.

First of all, you should read up on Deus Ex Machina, "God from the machine", and what it truly means. It's when something IMPOSSIBLE happens completely outside the plot line to provide a sudden twist.

Advanced military technology that's top secret is far from applicable. Especially considering it changed the plot line... zero.

So, yeah, sorry. In a movie that's about biological robots that transform into human technology to hide, and the part you find unbelievable is an advanced human laser beam.

SPOILERS- DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET.

My few problems with the movie:

1. I agree with the one poster who complained about the language. They really didn't need to cuss as much as they did which brings me to #2.

2. A majority of that was contributed by the twins who were absolutely worthless in this film. I mean, I thought they had a role somewhere and was almost giddy when they lined up against Devastator thinking of the impending doom they faced. Unfortunately, nothing came about from it. Hell, one of them got eaten, only to punch his way out of the monsters throat. Stupid.

3. Speaking of Devastor, they absolutely WASTED him in this film. We all saw the trailers, heard he was in the movie and they didn't do anything with him. He is supposed to be an ass kicker. I mean, they threw Jazz to the wolves in the T1 by getting ripped in half by Megatron to put him over. Hell, Jazz was one of the only G1 Autobots to survive "the movie" in 86' and they found a way to kill him 2 minutes into the final battle in T1. Why couldn't they have Devastor at least destroy somebody? The twins and ARCEE would have sufficed for me. Seems a little silly for me.

I'm still loving the Forest Scene. Optimus KICKED ass. One of the best fight scenes by one of the best fictional heroes.

I just came back from it (Transformers 2) and can say that I enjoyed the film (and I'm someone who can be easily critical seeing as how my career involves story writing/creating etc).

But I enjoyed it for what it is. A typical Michael Bay CGI spectacle with a plot that's as generic as it is predictable.

Not going to reveal too much, but the Rail Gun could have ended the movie right then and there had it been fired more than one damn time.

Lots of silly ****, the typical "I love you" come back to life ****.

All the critics who b**** about how stupid it is don't get what it's about. It's just a funny/wild CGI demo reel to enjoyably pass time with.

Anyway, It's a movie I'd definitely pay to go see in a theater once and then not see again for a long time... in fact I haven't seen the 1st Transformers since I saw it in the theater.

Look at Family Guy... Matt and Trey were spot on when they said that the show is ****ing stupid and a manatee could write their jokes. (most of the animated comedy community thinks Seth MacFarlane is a ****ing retard). But his stuff... as stupid and easy to create as it may be, still makes people laugh due to it's utter randomness (which is the point of the show)

Bay makes spectacles... and there is a reason he's made HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars with his films. People just like to see **** blow up and giant battles.

People get pissed off when they see hacks put together entertainment that they not only find devoid of actual talent to create, but something that they think anyone could do... but they really get pissed off when it's a HUGE SUCCESS.

That's why the critics lampoon Bay... but it's not going to stop him from having more success in the future.

just got back and WOW, what an AWESOME ****ING MOVIE!!!! IM SPEAKING IN CAPS RIGHT NOW TO DRIVE HOME THE UTTER AWESOMENESS!!!!!!

and p.s., thanks dukes for the heads up on the imax...i had a hard enough time keeping up on a regular screen

Anywho, THAT is the way I always imagine optimus. The kicker of ass. The destroyer of decepticons. The ****ing beast from the east.

TOTALLY nailed how he should have been fighting imo. That forest scene was absolutely crazy! Actually, all of the fight scenes were MAJOR upgrades over the first movie. The detail that went into the cgi was absoultely incredible. Seeing optimus just ****ing ROCKIN fools in a forest was heaven.

Ya, some of the jokes were corny (and the twins were kind of an unnecesarry add), but overall thought they fit nicely into the movie. I actually thought the mom was the funniest character throughout.

Meagan fox. SLow motion. running. for like ten minutes. :O

So much more, but for now that's it. ****ING AWESOME!

edit: yes, I realize awesome is a severly overutilized descriptive tool here, so bite me :D

>>Are there honestly 46 new Transformers in the movie?
I have no (bleep) clue. It's impossible to tell most of them apart except for Optimus and the Racist Twins (there's another yellow Autobot who I constantly thought was Bumblebee). There could be 46, or there could be 12. I honestly would believe 12 if someone had said that.

>>What is the status of the Transformers at the beginning of the film?
The Autobots have joined the military to hunt down the Decepticons. We're told the Decepticons are "doing things," but they appear to be hiding peacefully when the Autobots show up and brutally murder them.

>>What?
Yeah. The Decepticons aren't apparently doing anything, then the Autobots show up, the Decepticons run for their (bleep) lives, and the Autobots hunt them down and brutally murder them. It's kind of weird.

>>Why is the U.S. military helping them?
Supposedly to help keep the Transformers a secret from the public. Although since the climax of the last film was a massive firefight involving 50-foot robots and took place over five miles of downtown Los Angeles and the beginning of this film wrecks several miles of Shanghai, China, they seem to be incredibly (bleep) at their job.

>>How does the U.S. military help them?
Well, not at all, actually. They just kind of come along with guns and stuff, and act like they're going to help, but the Autobots do all the work.

>>Why is the U.S. military in this movie at all, then?
Because Michael Bay has a huge erection for jets and tanks and aircraft carriers and considers giant robots only a necessary evil for the film. At least 15 full minutes of the film's 150-minute run time is nothing but footage of jets and tanks and planes without any robots or actual action whatsoever.

>>How is Sam Witwicky dragged back into the fight?
Well, he finds a fragment of the Allspark shard. You know, the Allspark that he spent all last movie being told he shouldn't give to Megatron, but when he gave it to Megatron, it killed Megatron. That one. Anyways, the shard makes the Beef see symbols and act like more of an spaz than usual.

>>So the Decepticons want the shard? Why?
Uh... to bring Megatron back to life?

>>What?
That's what they said.

>>But the Allspark killed Megatron in the first movie.
Yes.

>>...and now it can also bring him back to life.
It's very powerful, this Allspark.

>>Uh-huh. So what's their plan to get it?
They send a small R/C car who talks like Joe Pesci in Casino to get it.

>>Shouldn't they have sent Starscream or somebody?
Look, there's another Allspark shard and get that one anyways, so it doesn't matter.

>>Well, then why do they give a (bleep) about Sam?
The symbols. In his head. That the shard of the Allspark gave him.

>>They weren't in the other shard?
Apparently not.

>>So how do the Decepticons plan to get the symbols, I guess?
Well, the Decepticons have very cunningly created a hot chick robot who they enrolled in the same college and put in the same astronomy class as Sam. And they made her a huge slut.

>>Wait.
Waiting.

>>There's a slutty Decepticon?
Yeah, she's a real ho. The Decepticons apparently have an incredibly powerful slut-making program, because she has it down, man. Anyways--

>>Didn't Sam touch the shard and get the symbols stuck in his head on his first day of college?
Yes.

>>So the Decepticons made a slutty robot to attend his college and enrolled her in classes and put her in on-campus housing just in case Sam ended up being important at some point in the future?
Apparently. It was an elaborate plan, but it sure paid off.

>>How so?
Well, not at all. The slut-bot made out with him for a little bit then immediately tried to kill him, neither for any apparent motive or gain.

>>It sounds preposterous.
Doesn't matter, because the Decepticons use the shard piece they do have to resurrect Megatron! He's back! Ooo! Scary!

>>Why is this scary? All he wanted was the Allspark, and now it's gone.
...because he has a boss! He's called the Fallen, because he's so evil! He has an evil plan to use a machine on Earth to blow up the sun and make energon! Or something! It's not very clear.

>>Now you're just making (bleep) up as you go along, aren't you?
Best not to think too much about it. Anyways, the symbols in the Beef's head are a map to where this machine exists, so the hunt is on and Sam shortly is captured by other, less slutty Decepticons in one of the many instances where Bumblebee inexplicably abandons the Beef so he can conveniently be in trouble.
Then a robot called the Doctor who speaks gibberish with a German accent shoves things up Shia's nose and gets the symbols.

>>That's that, then, right? The Decepticons win?
No! Because Optimus Prime saves Sam before they cut off his head, which has another treasure inside!

>>Really? What is that?
No one really bothers to explain this, actually. Suffice to say, the Decepticons continue to want Sam. Oh, then Optimus Prime fights three Decepticons at once and dies.

>>Where the hell were the other Autobots during this fight?
I don't know. They were with him before the fight, but then they disappear and show up right after he dies. But they appear sad about Optimus dying. Marginally. I mean, they don't get any screen time or dialogue to convey any feelings or anything, but there's some sad music playing for a little bit afterwards. I assume this means the robots that are off-screen are grieving.

>>Well, if one shard brought Megatron back to life, can't Sam just use his shard piece to resurrect Optimus?
Yes. He could.

>>...
...

>>Well?
He doesn't.

>>Why not?
I'm not sure exactly.

>>Then what the hell does he do?
He decides get those symbols that were in his head translated to figure out what the Fallen's up to.

>>Which Autobot does the translating?
Err... none of them. Actually, it's John Turturro.

>>What. The (bleep).
Yeah, since he was laid off from his super-secret government agent job, he now works in a NY deli and runs a super-popular Transformers conspiracy theory website. Like ya do.

>>And why couldn't an Autobot translate these symbols?
Because Bumblebee is mute and the Racist Twins are poor black robots from the slums of Cybertron who never learned how to read. It's a sad commentary on Cybertronian society. Like The Wire, actually.

>>Where the hell are the other Autobots?
I don't know. Away. They seem to be unable to be reached. They're probably grieving about Optimnus still. Clearly, John Turturro is the reasonable solution

>>So Turturro translates the symbols.
No, that would be silly. He does, in an incredibly bizarre series of connect-the-dots, lead them to Jetfire, an elderly and deceased Transformers whose corpse is hanging out in the Air & Space Museum.

>>What good is he dead?!
Ah! Remember the shard? Sam uses it to bring Jetfire back to life!

>>Not Optimus?
No! This way, Sam can get the symbols translated... so he can, er... find the ancient machine... that can, uh... possibly bring Optimus back to life.

>>You have to (bleep) be kidding me.
Moving on! Jetfire teleports everyone to Egypt, including some of the missing Autobots --

>>Wait, what? Teleports?
Yes, teleports.

>>Transformers don't teleport.
Jetfire does.

>>But -- wait a second, he's a (bleep) jet. He could fly everybody to Egypt, right? And that would make perfect sense for both the character and the franchise!
Well, I guess so. But he chooses not to. The point is Jetfire teleports them all to Egypt where he explains that there used to be 7 or 8 Primes, and they traveled around the galaxy blowing up suns for energon. But they never did it on planets with life.
Well, they had set the machine up on Earth and not noticed all the life running around, and one of the Primes just said (bleep) it, let's do it anyways. This was evil, so they called that Prime the Fallen and beat the (bleep) out of him although he escaped.

>>Okay...
So that other mysterious reason that the Decepticons wanted Sam's brain? It's because it contains some very vague clues about the Matrix of Leacdership, which is the device that turns on the sun-exploding machine. The Fallen needs the Matrix to blow up the sun and get his Energon.

>>Hold on. That's what the Matrix of Leadership does in the movie?
Yes. Works the sun-exploding machine.

>>I'm fuzzy on how "Leadership" covers that.
I didn't name it. But it does sound a little nicer than "Matrix of Blowing Up the (bleep) Sun."
If I may continue, in order to protect the Earth, the 6-7 other Prime hid the Matrix on Earth and made a tomb with their own bodies. Isn't that cool?

>>...
...

>>No. No it is not. If they wanted to protect Earth, why did they leave the Matrix on the planet? They're a space-faring race, they could have hid it anywhere in galaxy! Second of all, what the (bleep) does making a tomb of their own bodies do? Shouldn't they have stayed alive to protect the Matrix? Or finish off the Fallen? Or just not die and leave Earth and the entire Transformer race in jeopardy?
Uh...

>>And why hide the Matrix at all? Don't they need Energon to survive? Didn't they say they go to other lifeless planets? These idiot Primes just doomed their whole species for no (bleep) reason whatsoever! No wonder the Decepticons are so pissed.
...ahem. Eventually, Sam and crew find the Matrix, which instantly crumbles into dust. Sam puts the dust in a sock because he thinks it will bring Optimus back to life.

>>Grr.
What follows is the most spectacular part of the movie, as Sam and Mikaela try to run the several miles back to the military camp during a massive Decepticon attack where the military has dropped Optimus Prime's corpse.

>>Why is that awesome? They could drive back in one of the Autobots and be there in a minute or two.
They don't do that.

>>What?
They walk.

>>Of course they do. And I assume the Autobots just mysteriously disappear again until a second before a Decepticon is about to kill Sam.
Yes. Exactly.

>>I am already incredibly sick of this movie, and I'm just typing questions about it. Sam resurrects Optimus, Optimus kills the Fallen, end of story, right?
Pretty close. Sam dies, though.

>>Really?
Yeah, for a little while. But then the Transformers in heaven send him back because he still has work to do.

>>(bleep) you.
I'm serious.

>>(bleep) you. There's no way.
It's true. The 6-7 Primes are there in the clouds like Mufasa's head in The Lion King, and tell Sam he's awesome and he needs to live again so he can bring Optimus back to life.

>>I may be ill.
Then Jetfire appears out of nowhere and rips out his own heart right in front of Optimus to give him his elderly old robot powers. This makes Optimus into a flying badass who defeats the Megatron and Starscream and the Fallen in a little less than two minutes. After the last 30 minutes of the movie have been nothing but explosions -- not all of which have any obvious causes -- it's a bit disappointing.

>>Anything else you want to add?
Well, only that although Sam jams the Matrix of Leadership into Optimus Prime's chest to resurrect him, a Decepticon takes it out like 10 seconds later and Optimus is fine. Just a little weird, is all.

>>Can you give me any reason I would want to see this film in theaters?
I can't answer every question, man.

>>Why does Sam's mom buy and consume a pot brownie?
Well, Sam's mom was in a coma for the last 30+ years, which explains how she had never heard of marijuana, and why she didn't understand the consequences of eating it even after her husband specifically told her it was a pot brownie (Sam was unfortunately conceived and born during this period). A better question is why any college student in America would be selling pot brownies at an on-campus bake sale, let alone to a middle-aged woman.

>>A lot was made of how Shia the Beef's hand injury was written into the film. How was this done?
Well, sometimes Shia had a huge bandage on his hand, and sometimes he didn't.

>>That doesn't sound "written in" at all.
Well, no actual words are used to explain it. It might be more accurate to say it "shows up sometimes."

>>Why would a robot need to fart, pee, or vomit? And why would it need testicles?
Michael Bay does not understand what a robot is.

>>What is the point of the character of Sam's college roommate, and why the (bleep) does he stay for the entirety of the movie?
I have no clue. He's not comedy relief, because that's covered by 90% of the Transformers themselves. He technically leads the Beef to John Turturro, but surely there could have been another way to do that. Besides, Turturro just leads them to Jetfire anyways. It's all extraneous.

>>Why can only a Prime kill the Fallen? Why can Jetfire teleport? Why can the Fallen wave a staff and make (bleep) fly around? Why do actual cars and Autobots get sucked into Devastator's maw, but John Turturro and that other kid can run around?
Because... because (bleep) YOU, that's why.

>>Can you explain Megan Fox's appeal?
Yes. She looks like a porn star and has the same acting talent as one, yet for some reason she makes mainstream movies. This tonal disconnect is what's so appealing about her.

>>If you had to pick a single scene that exemplifies Michael Bay's utter disdain for story and continuity, what would it be?
When five Decepticons sink to the bottom of the ocean to retrieve Megatron's corpse. A submarine tracks five "subjects" going down, and when they get there, one of the Decepticons is killed to give parts to Megatron. 5 -1 +1 = 5, right? No, because the sub somehow tracks "six" subjects coming up. Not only is this very basic math, this is the simplest of script errors. It could not possibly have been more than one page apart in the script. And yet Michael Bay either didn't care to notice or didn't give a (bleep). "Math? Math is for (bleep). My movies are about (bleep) blowing up, man."

>>Could you sum up the film in one line of its dialogue?
"I am standing directly beneath the enemy's scrotum."

I just got back from this movie and I LOVED IT. This really makes me question any critic that I read from now on. This movie was just awesome. F the haters. Go watch the proposal Punisher.

Ive seen the movie it's nothing but motion sickness. And Megan Fox running around half of the time saying "Oh my God" "Watch Out".And once you've seen the Transformers transform like 1000 time, you get so used to it that you find it boring after the 1st hour and a half.

And I'm really about to start picketing Michael bay's Movies the guy is a scam artist.

Meh... the movie kind of sucked. The jokes were annoying, the plot was all over the place. The explosions and the slo-mo shots of planes taking off carriers were relentless.

I half expected the robot twins to break out some watermelon and fried chicken.

Terminater Salvation was a better movie.

Ironically, when the wife and i went saturday to see this most of the theatre was full of black individuals and they laughed the hardest at the twins. The only uncomfortable spot i thought was the black butcher with the bad teeth. That really had no purpose at all in the film to me.

Wow.

Maybe you should read up on it.

A deus ex machina (pronounced /ˈdeɪəs ɛks ˈmɑːkinə/ or /ˈdiːəs ɛks ˈmækɨnə/,[1] literally "god from the machine") is a plot device in which a person or thing appears "out of the blue" to help a character to overcome a seemingly insolvable difficulty.

BOOM. It's a completely random out of nowhere plot device used to defeat devastator because they couldn't come up with a real way to do it.

Where was the rail gun for the first 2 hours? Oh right, it was a DEUS EX MACHINA.

Sweet wiki definition. The real one involves it solving plot entanglements and it's inception is from a God being lowered onto the stage to solve the protagonist's delimna. It's pretty realistic that an intense laser beam "rail gun" would exist as is. Couple with that with it not really changing the plot WHATSOEVER (Devastator already unearthed the machine and had no further purpose), and yeah, it does not classify as a "Deus Ex Machina".

They had no way to defeat Devastator until it showed up from nowhere. Devastator WAS a problem, he was big and badass. Devastator and the fallen would have raped. The fact that the Rail Gun wasnt used previously in the movie during multiple instances when it would have been extremely effective makes it a deus ex machina. Just because it "could" exist, doesn't mean it ISN'T a deus ex machina, or a tool to keep the story going. The problem at that point in the movie was devastator and noone was going to stop him until "oh hey, we have this awesome rail gun that could have killed all the Decepticons easily but we didn't -really- need it until devastator was ****ing **** up."

Hollywood has nowhere else it want's to go to be honest. It's also quick and easy money when a story is already taken care of and the brand is already out there due to a fan base that WILL PAY to see it.

Uhhhh... as previously stated, the twins were a joke and were F'ing up devastator. You think Prime who whipped the Fallen, Megatron and Starscream's asses all at once would've had an issue with him?

You're exactly as dumb as you seem to be. There is NOT more than meets the eye with you.

Thats like saying because Peyton Manning threw into double coverage and completed it, he will have no problem throwing into triple and quadruple coverage. Good analogy.

Actually, I think a better analogy is Manning completed consecutive passes against Champ, Asomugha, and Jammer.....so there was really no need to guess how it would've turned out had he thrown a 4th pass in Deangelo Hall's direction.

Once again, you've proven yourself incompetent in making simple comparisons. What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Michael Bay always misses the point. The man is a ****ing idiot when it comes to plot and character development. But that's not the type of films he makes.

Why the movie should be watched on mute. Won't argue the spectacle.

So you're saying Devastator would have just ****ed off had he not been blown away? Since he ran his course. Your failure of the language and reading comprehension is not my fault. You make outlandish claims with no backing, and obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Yet you make personal attacks at me because you don't understand the literary and theatrical tool to its full extent. You're an e-thug, congrats. You win, I give up, you can't fix stupid self-assuring ignorance.
