View Full Version : broncos sign brandon lloyd/shefter interview 2

Listening to koa just now and it was announced the broncos have signed vet
receiver brandon lloyd.

Earlier Adam Shefter was interviewed on the Dave Logan show. Not much new but here are notes I took:

KOA: so you've been on vacation awhile

Shefter:

5 1/2 months of vacation between nfl network and espn. they are paying me to be out 5 1/2 months
will start with espn in the middle of august. will be in studio for the pregame show on august 17th.

KOA: so what's up with B Marshall?

Shefter:

We are seeing a similar story as to what happened to Jay Cutler. Broncos are saying we aren't trading B Marshall. Marshall asked to be
traded on Friday. Bowlen told him to think it over. We have another situation, one way or another, that
bears watching based on what happened with Jay Cutler.

KOA: will this be a fiasco for the broncos?

Shefter:

A marshall trade would not be a good thing. The broncos lost a young pro bowl qb, and they don't want to lose a young pro
bowl wr too. THere are other teams around the league that think they can get B Marshall. But broncos
say they won't trade him.

KOA: logan: there is room for improvement with brandon. he has to be a more consistent ball catcher. but he is a unique talent. Marshall
has no leverage here.

shefter: you're right

KOA: based on his productivity b marsh is underpaid. But he has no leverage so he has to come to camp

Shefter:

jay cutler has 3 years left on his contract and he forced a trade. there's been alot of changes in dove valley.
it will be up to the broncos to make this situation go away. they have to decide whether to give bmarsh a new contract, convince bmarsh to come in, or exploring a trade. I don't know what the broncos will do, but they do have to make a decision.

they don't want another jay cutler situation

koa: is mcdaniels frustrated given what happened to cutler?

shef: josh will be a great coach in this league, and he thinks no player is bigger than the team. some
of the principles here are similar to jay cutler case.

Lloyd is a piece of work. When he was with the Niners, he used to go party like the team won the Super Bowl in clubs after his team got hammered on Sundays.

Back then, Pro Bowl fullback Fred Beasley took issue with Lloyd and called him out for lacking a professional work ethic.

This doesnt mean anything, certainly isnt a sign we are going to move Marshall

I think if anything it is just competition since Marshall wont be there

what is Marshall gonna do, sit the season out?

He will show up eventually and play, he had only positive things to say about McDaniels earlier, so its not like there will be a rift when he comes back

Tombstone RJ

The best thing Bmarsh can do is come in and play. Bowlen has already capitulated on a new contract and when Bowlen gets involved, it's a serious issue.

If Bmarsh shows good faith by showing up for training camp, then I'd bet anything that he'll get a new contract before the regular season starts...

Actually, I suspect that the odds of BM getting into another legal jam/altercation sometime between now and the end of camp have just shot through the roof. He's proven to have no impulse control, and the pressure of a holdout is going to break him. He'll punch his fiance or some other person, or get arrested for something. Either way, watch for the inevitable misstep and subsequent suspension.

Really, the only sane way to look at all this is as if BM suffered a season-ending injury. It's essentially the same thing.

I've got two, and a dog, and a fish and the kid has a hamster, though it's a light eater.

Any amount is fine. You name it. Replica Broncos jersey? Those are cheap. I'll buy you a McDaniels jersey if you win.

My position?

-The defense improves in points against.

The offense does not slide significantly, if at all with regards to scoring. (You decide what that means... I think we'll be a couple places either way of where we were this year.) I think we were 16th in scoring last year? I'll say we're 20th-10th this year.

If it's as gloom and doom as you say, that's like free money for you. No one else has taken me up on it, despite a lot of running off at that mouth.

You can be the first.

$50 is perfect.

I don't agree on the defensive side though. With Champ and DJ back healthy, that's quite a duo.

How many wins do you think Denver will have Popps? I don't need to dig into the guts of the offense or the defense. You're a bottom line guy, how does our win/loss record look this year? I would put money on the fact that finish 6-10 or worse.

I am a bottom liner, but I think even with no changes, we would have been hard pressed to win more than 6-7 games this year, particularly with no defensive improvement. The Cutler "show" barely got us seven wins last year with a more favorable schedule. (You know, like Buffalo at home to get into the playoffs.)

This year looks much worse from a scheduling prespective. I've been pretty clear that I think we're probably a 6-8 win team at best. So, maybe we don't disagree there.

BUT, I do believe we'll see seeds of improvement start to show on both sides of the ball by the end of the season, and I think we'll improve on defense in a notable way.

To me, that's nowhere near the gloomy forecast you predict.

Reminiscent of the Eagles trading for Ellis Hobbs in light of the current Sheldon Brown situation, isn't it? Except that Hobbs is at least borderline starting material while Lloyd probably isn't.

What the hell are you talking about? Cutler was smart enough to get the hell out of Denver and into a pretty good situation in Chicago. Not sure if you've noticed or not but the Broncos are going downhill...QUICK. BMarsh realizes this and that is why he wants out. I think he feels like the Broncos Organization is the enemy at this point. Too much change isn't always for the better. Actually, no I hadn't noticed the Broncos going down hill quick. What I have noticed is people like you happy with mediocrity and making people like me pull my hair out.

I've noticed a lot of change at Dove Valley in an effort to reshape the team and mold it into a hungry playoff contendar that is either going to the SB or going bust.

I kinda like it.

Your either all in or all out. I'm all in. I've been waiting since 1998 for this team to get hungry again. Shanny was nice, but he was not perfect. Mediocrity just won't do anymore. I kinda like Bowlen's new motto: 8 and 8 and your out the gate!
