There's a lot of low lifes in LA. Not surprised L.A. doesn't want to foot the bill for extra police force, more lock ups, additional court expenses and potential property damage. Reponsible individuals with jobs aren't going to play hooky on parade day. It's the scum that have nothing else better to do.

Somehow, I doubt that any of the Lakers' players give a $#!t about a parade.

California is broke. They have established rules, regulations and red tape catering to the far left to protect the environment, save the whales, somehow repair the ozone and stop global warming...hope they enjoy being broke with no revenue. It aint fiscal responsibility its they are idiots that deserve what they get.

They already were after the game 4 win. People were blocking intersections and harassing drivers, shaking cars, etc. Police had to be involved.

The series isn't even over.

The people here need something to riot over. If the Lakers win and there's no parade, that'll be good enough.

Not to be totally off the subject but Arnold is in with the Far Left. He has given up everything he had since his props failed a few years ago. He is a failure and did almost nothing to stop what the recalled Gray Davis did to us. He and California assembly is everything the poster said. He might have gone political on the thread but he is correct. If you really think Arnold is a Republican, you are only trying to shift the blame of the ultra liberal (and socialist) assembly in Sacramento. Our state is an fiscal ruins because of the open credit card the gov and the major majority of the left have controlled. BTW: Los Angeles is $500 million in debt. If this parade cost $1 million, I agree with CBF and say that Buss picks up the tab. The parade and celebration is good for the area. If LA wont do it, I am sure Orange County would love to hold it. As for this quote .... " Following last Thursday's Lakers win over the Magic, a group stormed into an east Los Angeles intersection and vandalized cars." The only difference of this happening after game 4 and every normal day is that the cars are normally stolen and not rocked back and forth.

I guess Arnold is the only one at fault for your State being broke and since he wears the title of Republican you can tell me how balanced your legislators are. You are in one of the most liberal states with some of the most obtuse laws for business (which is leaving in droves) and driving down your taxable revenue. By the way your state was considered liberal way before Arnold was in charge. Do you still have the IOU the State gave you as a refund this year? I think it would be much more fitting to give your liberal legislature the title "morons" than me but its your call. Don't worry dude as Socialism and the far left agenda spread more of this will happen elsewhere as well.

we are broke (and LA for not having a parade) is because the state legislatures are being a puppet for the Unions of teachers and state workers. We have increased workers in this state by 38 each day since 1991 (i believe that is the correct year). We borrow money from things like future lotto winnings/revenue and such to appear that we have a balanced budget. Well, for LA and the state the time ran out. They stuck as with the worst tax increase for two years and try to fake out the citizens for an additional two (which TG it failed by almost a 2 to 1 margin). They have spent like drunkin sailors and dont have the cajones to tell these unions that if they dont agree on a salary decrease or layoffs, the state will go bankrupt. I wish we would go belly up so we can start over on these union contracts. But, hey, 90% of your pay in pensions seems very fair to have the citizens pay for it. (Add sarcasm smile here)

Seeing how much it will cost, I'm all for not having a parade. I went to the one in 2001 and 2003. After the one in 2001 I had no plans on going to another one. But my son wanted to go to the one in 03. I'm hoping that he doesn't want to go to one this year. It's just a lot of standing around waiting to see a bus drive by. And parking sucks. And it's hot. I can't think of too many positive things about having a parade.

This is exactly the crux of the problem with California right here. The techers union and oversized government. And Chris is right, the problem had existed before Arnold got into office and it will exist after Arnold is out of office.

The far left dominates the political scene in California so much that they are so far removed from the rest of the country. California cannot afford to continue the socialism that they are practicing because the country cannot afford them to. I hate Cali, but the country cannot afford them to go bankrupt, and we cannot afford to bail them out. They HAVE to move more towards the middle, start laying off workers, make California a right to work state which will lower wages and subsequently lower the cost of living. This **** will have a positive effect on their economy. They have to have fiscal responsibility though and if what you say is true, hiring 38 people a day for 18 straight years is not fiscally responsible.

:Broncos:

First off, In the state of California you already pay to have your trash picked up curbside on a monthly basis..... This includes a bin for Trash, Yard waste AND a blue recycling container.

Secondly, if the recycled containers are being used, then all the items they can make money on are already sorted, hence saving money on time and also the amout of by product being thrown in the local landfills which also saves money.

Now if enforcement is going to be hired to enforce said laws, you bet your ass that the fines will be stiff enough to cover the costs of enforcement. Say the fines are $250-$300 per infraction, how many tickets would an officer have to write a day to cover the costs???

There are enough people living in the bay area that are dumb enough to think they will never get caught that this would become a real money maker IF it was run correctly....like a business.

In San Diego city employees can start collecting their pensions after 20 accrued years regardless of whether or not they are still working for the city. Basically they get two paychecks.

My current home state of North Dakota has a $1.2 billion budget surplus. That's $2400 per resident. The problem here is that the old conservative bastards aren't willing to spend any of it. :nono:

Lakers, city will split costs of victory parade (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/06/lakers-city-will-split-costs-of-victory-parade.html)

8:12 PM | June 14, 2009
Neither the Orlando Magic nor a disintegrating city budget managed to forestall the Lakers’ victory parade, which is scheduled to follow a two-mile route from Staples Center to the Coliseum on Wednesday.

Both the team and the city will kick in about $1 million each for the festivities, which for the first time includes the significant cost of renting the Coliseum. The Lakers worked with city officials to keep costs down, including ruling out a weekend celebration or a longer parade, according to Tim Harris, the Lakers’ senior vice president for business operations and chief marketing officer.

Spending is the reason the GOP is out. On wars, bridges to nowhere or to save banks and mortgage companies, Americans dont like to see money wasted. Arnold is anything but a Republican lol. He just ran that ticket so he could get into office. He's married to a Kennedy for a reason... and if you think he's a real Republican just look at what he's done as a governor.

Cracks me up! Whenever a Republican ****s up suddenly he's not a real Republican. LOL

He isnt! He ran as one but he changed his colors once his props didnt pass a couple of years ago. He has not done what he was elected to do , but he has sure talked a good game on global warming. If you dont live here or keep up, you dont know what it is like. He is a huge fraud and no way he would get the republican nod if he got to run again. He wants everyone to like him and his switch has alienated him in the republican party. He is not a republican.

Ha ha ha!

Nice deflection.

Still no answer for why your inept, corrupt joke of a party was crushed in a landslide victory by the Dems this last election.

First, that question wasnt posted to me to respond so no deflection. Bush helped bring this on his own and no one in congress stopped the un-conservative fiscal approach so the party was responsible for the mess and paid for it. You love politics sooo much on a national level but can never answer any of the true going ons in your own state. The fact is that California is your ideal situation when Davis was our governor and it has proven to be a complete failure. Your approach (minus the illegal alien coddling) has cost this state billions of dollars and is on the verge of bankruptcy. This formula is to your liking on a national level. You are in a flux. You support Obama's plans but cant speak out on the local level because it has been proven to be a disaster. So, while I answered your question even though it wasnt originally addressed to me, please enlighten us on your own state of California. Also, tell us what your highest taxes in the country are doing for your own lifestyle while living here. I sure am not getting my monies worth.

Calijohn, Anaheim should take notes tomm. on how to have a freaking parade. Not a BBQ like they did for the Anaheim Dinosaurs.;D

Deal. And unfortunatly, your citizens didnt take lessons from our two championships on how to conduct yourself in public. Also, do you think the Kings take note on their co-tenants or they figure why bother?

I saw on the tube of the preparty/parade. Is there that many people out of work or ditching work? I know the neighborhood is in the less desirable areas of LA, but I must ask, "Where the white women at?" Coliseum totally filled up with thousands not able to get in. Amazing. This is one team that the whole area loves. I mean is there ever a mention of the LA Clippers and if they ever won it all (suuuuuuuuure!), would they get 1/10th of the people out to celebrate?

Parade was done very well. 90K + to watch the celebration and who knows how many 100's of thousands lined the parade route. Nicely done.

On a side note, It was a pleasure to really look and watch Kobe Bryant today. You can see the happiness and joy he is getting from all of this and what all of the hard work he has put in his entire career has ment to him.

Laker for life

Last time I checked no major CA modern sports facility, especially in LA, has been subsidized by the taxpayers for the benefit of billionaire owners. Yeah, California is pathetic for not allowing public funds to be used as welfare for billionaire sports owners. Even the Laker parade was privately funded, yup that's pathetic.
