"Broncos defensive lineman Kenny Peterson was a freshman when McDaniels was a senior at McKinley High School in the shadow of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio."

I'll betcha there has NEVER been an NFL head coach that played on the same high school team with one of his players.

Maybe way back, pre WWII in the leatherhead days with player-coaches, but no way in the modern era.

And somehow ... Kenny's in the starting lineup ::)

Actually, I hope people remember I was a huge supporter of Kenny Peterson as early as training camp '07.

Did Kenny play varsity as a freshman?

I dunno ... but usually guys who are destined for The Show were way ahead of their HS competition ???

That's got little to do with your body developing a couple years early.

Peterson is one of the few linemen who showed solid play on a consistent basis for us. Very smart move keeping him around, imo.

Well, one would assume size AND skill would be evident ... especially in the tiny pond of HS (tiny compared to the NFL).

If I had to guess I'd say no, he prolly didn't play varsity as a freshman ... those Ohio high school teams are wicked competitive, almost like Texas.

I don't know. You'd think being used only in roughly 15 snaps per game and on steroids he'd have been significantly more effective.

This might make me sound like an ass (and I've never had a problem with that...),

But how is this NOW "a thread worthy topic" when it was well reported back when we hired McDaniels in January? I mean, they even had the the press interview with Peterson back then...

Kenny Peterson was a draft pick and project of Jim Bates in Green Bay who showed alot of flashes there. He's got lots of talent and the versatility to play DE or DT in both the 4-3 and 3-4, so it's no surprise that he's so valuable in this transition.

This is what prompted me ... an OM'er posted this on his Facebook page yesterday, it's from Fan Fair.

Kenny, Josh and Fred:

Josh most likely forgot to do his math homework or take out the trash before going outside to play with the rest of the kids...

WTF?

Completely false again.

Peterson was drafted in 2003. While Bates was in Miami. He didn't go to GB until 2005.

Opps, got me there. Maybe it was that Bates pushed to keep him from leaving the Packers? I dunno, my memory is fuzzy on this, but I do know that Bates thought highly of him.

You're just about 5 months late, but it's ok.

Peterson IMO a good player, just not good enough to shine when rest of defense stinks. I think he's pretty physical though and good enough to start at end for Broncos. I think he breaks out a little this yr.

Not this season, but 2007. If you'd like a link, google Kenny Peterson suspended. If you're incapable of that, please jump off a bridge.

What do you mean? He was a key rotation guy in one of the worst D-lines in football.

That said in the sketchy 3-4 we ran in a few games last year both Peterson and Marcus Thomas had some of their best games as DE's. Hopefully that will translate into continued success in a stable 3-4

Agreed. But I wish we'd hear something about MT outta Dove Valley. I don't think Josh has mentioned him even once.

I'm tired of hearing him prattle on about life in a foreign country.
