After all the hype, and after going to blockbuster time and time again only to find that it wasn't in stock, I finally got to rent Left 4 Dead for Xbox 360. I bring it home, pop it in, and the first level is great. I play the second level: Much like the first. I play the third level: Much like the first 2. You are basically shooting zombies over and over and over and over and over.

What is the appeal of this game? Shooting (basically) defenseless zombies for hours on end just doesn't do it for me. Is there something that I am missing? I am about ready to go back to blockbuster and exchange it. I don't even care if that's not their policy, I will tell them that the game is simply unplayable. Worst case scenario: I don't have to look at it anymore..

But I am open to anyone who wants to tell me something that I might be missing. I tried online.. it was okay.. but it's very hard to get into games with more than 4 people. Anyone?

First off, playing it on the console is just wrong. It a PC game first and foremost, because it is a first person shooter. FPS games on console suck donkey butt.

That said, you need to play with friends, preferably in vs. mode. Playing by yourself is worthless in that game...it is all about using voice communication and playing against real people. If you only play against the AI, there is no point in playing.

Designed for multiplayer use. It rocks with your buddies. Intense moments too, and I hate those ****ing female witch zombies that shriek.

Pretty much what he said. Its a lot better on PC, and its only fun if you have friends to play it with.

Playing Expert Co-Op is fun and challenging. But I'd say Versus is the most fun with a group of friends.

The games built in AI director (the thing that decides when and what zombies attack you) is some of the better AI I have ever seen in a game.

Left 4 dead only shines in its multiplayer mode. It really forces you to communicate with other players in order to succeed especially when the difficulty is increased. Playing single player really doesn't lead to much excitement and would be similar to playing team fortress by yourself.

It doesn't have **** on WAW multi player. Its a good game but if you like killing zombies then get World at War.

Wrong. Console games are just as good, if not better. It's a different skillset, and it's not all about who has the $900 video card. I used to think the same thing, then I got into gears and COD and much prefer the console version to PC. Only thing PC really dominates (since the communities are declining and Consoles are increasing) is RTS, since consoles don't really integrate the keyboard yet.

Don't forget RTS and MMO games.

RTS games suck with a controller, and MMO's really aren't viable on a console. There are some great series on a consoles, and wouldn't feel too right for me playing a PC.

COD, CS,TF2, L4D, any of the battlefield games are equal or more fun to play on a PC, and you don't need a $900 video card to enjoy them either. Just assuming you wanted the best, you can get a great video card for $200, and even then on most games like TF2, CS, L4D you aren't missing much playing the game on lower settings.

Also paying for xbox live SUCKS, but I still really can't do without it since I enjoy playing with my friends online. Its not even like you're playing on dedicated servers, you're paying to host your own games which is a RIP off. At least the PS3 service is free.

This is coming from someone who has a PS3, Xbox (subscriber to xboxlive), and plays a lot of PC games.

I have a PS3 and NEVER play online other than warhawk because the online is ****ing pathetic. I wish I could pay $50 a year and get a service as good as Xbox Live on PS3. Paying for online is more than worth it with the benefits that come with it, hell, just being able to jump into your friends game easily is worth $50 a year to me and I'm a broke ass college student.

You have to pay for MMO's EVERY month for ONE game, yet you don't note that they're a rip off. Sounds kinda fanboy to me.

The PS3 and Xbox Live services are just about the same in quality, as far as lag and getting knocked offline. I still pay for it because like you said and I said earlier I enjoy playing with my friends. I don't currently play an MMO but there are some MMO's that are free, and some that you pay monthly for. That monthly payment is there to pay for the actual servers and the game updates most of the time.

What has Xbox live done so great? You pay to host your own servers, they released some update that caused many including mine and my friends 360 to RROD. However, no matter how much I think its a rip off I pay for it because in order to play with friends who are out of state thats what I have to do.

How can I be a fanboy of one system when I own a Wii, 360, PS3 and play PC games? That sounds pretty balanced to me, and in my opinion there are a ton of FPS, RTS and MMO games that aren't that great on a console. Maybe in the future they will be, but surely not now.

Maybe it is you that's the fanboy?

As others have said, this game is made for multiplayer. There's honestly no point in playing the game alone. Also yeah... It's best on the PC.

I only did the first level demo on PC and was bored out of my skull with it. I don't get the appeal at all.

Controls with a mouse and keyboard are far superior in a FPS game over a controller, that is just a fact. Try playing any competitive online FPS with a controller vs someone who has a mouse/keyboard and see the different instantly. Counterstrike, TF2...at the competitive level, everyone uses mouse and keyboard. Aiming with a thumbstick just sucks, and developers have to use lots of tricks to get it to feel good.

In other news, Valve's announcement of L4D2 is a major slap in the face to fans of the series. They shipped the game half-baked and now they are going to charge full price for what should have been an expansion pack? I hate Valve and their fat slob of a Manager, Gave Newell.

But yah, L4D is a real fun game. Multiplayer is where it's at. I have both the PC and 360 versions and each are fun. The only people who say that consoles suck for FPS are those who haven't given them a chance.

It's all about multiplayer to make it fun, I love the co-op and versus is so much fun with friends

I play it on PC and Xbox and they are the same, I prefer Xbox but I am a console guy, the major difference is mod support

If you're all on the same level, which you are on he console, it really doesn't matter. I was a huge PC gamer with Tribes 2 and Quake 3 and UT 2003, amazing games, nothing touched them on consoles at the time. But now that we've advanced, and even a 5 year old can point and click on someone, the skill required to play computer games has severely diminished. Like I said, consoles have a completely different skillset required to be good at them, one that years of porno hunting can't give you.

No kidding. I remember playing the demo way back when. When you beat it, it being the first two levels, you got this promo thing for the full release. Said "10 NEW GUNS," which was something I was looking forward too if only because 4, while still cool, got old. Im guessing the new stuff will be coming out this time...

Not to mention the obvious "you can only play versus on 2 campaigns" or "you can't even play versus until weeks after the initial release"...
