It was a hard choice between the first three listed for me. As all where pretty iconic in my childhood. But Blazing Saddles seemed to rely a bit less on specific cultural reference and worked within a larger genre. But mainly this:

I'm not a huge, huge fan of Brooks....when he's on, the movies are some of the funniest films ever made, but (much like National Lampoon films) when he's off, they're unmemorable.

He's also fixated on Nazis way too much for my liking, I swear they show up in every film of his.

Miss I.

kind of like Spielberg films for a while.

My vote is Young Frankenstein then Blazing Saddles. And I love Madeline Kahn, she was the bomb, funny as hell.

Good job getting Silent Movie in the poll. That was a great movie, if anybody has never seen it. However, you have to actually WATCH it, as most of the movie is silent. There is sound at opportune times during the movie, only. It's good. I voted for all the Mel Brooks movies, but Silent Movie needs to have special mention as an obscure Mel Brooks movie...

Dude, he is Jewish. He deals with the race stuff a lot in his comedy and his way of dealing with it is to make fun of the racists. What group was more racist than the Nazis - who also targeted his people.

The only thing that comes to topping the "Toll Booth" scene in Blazing Saddles for best "trick played on the bad guys" is the end of the Three Amigos where everyone sewed and dressed the the Amigos.

I'm sorry but this is the funniest line in any Mel Brooks Movie:

"Anyone gots some dimes? Someone's got to go back and get a **** load of dimes..."

The others had good scenes, but Blazing Saddles was a masterpiece. YF comes in second. Notice the connection--- Gene Wilder.

It wasn't a Brooks movie, but Wilder was also in another great movie that seemed like a Brooks movie - The Frisco Kid.

I kind of thought To Be Or Not To Be would be listed. The line, "Im world famous in Poland" alone makes it worth listing.

Yeah, I get all that...but he beats it into the ground, so it's as old as he is. Nazis showing up in a Brooks film is as dependable as the obligatory Adam Sandler plot that has him living with his Mother/Grandmother.
