When the Broncos traded Jay Cutler to the Bears in April, some people thought the QB’s best friend on the team, TE Tony Scheffler, also might want a one-way ticket out of Denver.
But Scheffler was at the Broncos’ minicamp last week, and according to the Denver Post, he sat down with his new coach, Josh McDaniels, to discuss the offseason changes:
“I didn’t need to hear anything,” Scheffler said. “This is the NFL. You can’t have feelings. You kind of have to have water off a duck’s back. You can’t have hurt feelings or you’ll get left behind in a hurry. You’ve got to move forward to the next day.”
McDaniels praised Scheffler’s work so far in the offseason and stressed to the Post that the team is ready to move on with the quarterbacks currently on its roster:
“I’m sure there were quite a few players who had relationships with Jay, and they’ve done a great job of saying, ‘You know what? This is our team now, and these are our quarterbacks.’ He’s working his butt off to get better with each one of them. He’s making a good impression on them, and I hope they’re making a good impression on him.”
Scheffler, 26, had 40 receptions last season and averaged a career-high 16.1 yards per catch.
