Impossible to say. If you take away any one of the main four characters it wouldn't be the same so I'm going with David Puddy.

Went with Newman because of the options (I'm not a big fan of "other"), but in retrospect I'd have to say my favorite was Mr Pitt, and then Peterman after him.

George Costanza: You have no idea of the magnitude of this thing. If she is allowed to infiltrate this world then George Costanza as you know him ceases to exist. You see, right now I have Relationship George. But there is also Independent George. That's the George you know, the George you grew up with--Movie George, Coffee Shop George, Liar George, Bawdy George.

Jerry Seinfeld: I love that George.

George: Me too, and he's dying. If Relationship George walks through this door, he will kill Independent George. A George divided against itself cannot stand!

I like how you felt the need to clarify that it was George Costanza and Jerry Seinfeld having that conversation. Without that clarity, I would've been lost.

Quite possibly my favorite bit ever from the show:

George: Excuse me, I'm expecting a call. Costanza?
Bruce: Yeah, I just got a call. I yell 'Cartwright! Cartwright!', just like
that. Nobody came up, I hang up.
George: Well, was it for Costanza or...
Bruce: Yes, yes, that's it. Nobody answered.
George: Well was it a woman?
Bruce: Yeah, yeah. I tell her you not here, she said curse word, I hang up.
(George comes over to Jerry and Elaine, stunned)
George: She called. He yelled Cartwright. I missed her.
Jerry: Who's Cartwright?
George: I'm Cartwright!
Jerry: You're not Cartwri-
George: Of course I'm not Cartwright! Look, why don't you two just go to the
movies all by yourselves, I'm not in the mood.

If you like castanza then you really need to watch Curb your Enthusiasm. It is with Larry David the co creator of Seinfeld. He is who George was based off of. It is a great show on HBO.

Jackie Chiles, Kramer's lawyer, was hilarious.

I disagree. While each character has their own defined niche, and the show wouldn't be quite the same with one of them gone, Chandler brings it all together. He is not only king of the one-liner but he sets others up for their funny moments as well. Then you have the Chandler/Monica relationship story line... I don't know, I'd say he's number 1 by a fairly wide margin..

My, uh, girlfriend typed that.

I agree with everyone that has said that if you took away any of the 4 central characters teh show just would not have been as epic.

Watching it through the first time, I was always a Jerry fan years gone by I still steal bits of his stand up act and use them to good affect!

With that being said, now later in life and watching the episodes again George gets the most laughs from me.

What suprises me, is that I remember when the show first aired, if it were put to a general poll I would have expected Kramer to win HANDS DOWN. Now, Cosmos not getting much love!

after the first few years of Friends, i would've agreed with you...but after Friends continued on, they did a great job with the other characters...

my favorite character changed numerous times...overall i'd agree that Chandler was the funniest...i mean, could a guy BE any funnier?(i'm sure you caught that)...

but there were times Ross had me in stitches...and the same with Joey...but Monica and Rachel also had their moments...Phoebe was funny too, but never the funniest to me...

overall?...Chandler...

i thought Elaine was the 2nd funniest...

Elaine is also the 2nd funniest female i've ever watched on a sitcom...only Rosanne was funnier...

I voted for the Costanza's. Just hilarious, and stole every scene they were in.

The Bro. The "who has sex with the Roostah?" dinner. The Raincoats. Ahhhhhh... Costanzas.

David Puddy is second for me.

Kramer was the character I remember the most in the show. Most of the other characters shared Seinfeld's dry wit. Kramer was different. His manic style made everyone wonder about his sanity...

Aside from the main characters, the episode with the library cop was funny as hell.

George's parents were hilarious in it. The interaction between them and Steinbrenner when they thought George was dead gets me every single time.

From the great message his dad leaves on Jerry's answering machine to this clip. His mother is so shocked at George being a hard worker while his dad could care less that he might be dead.

But for pure consistency I gotta go with Newman.
