Michael Vick thinking about a Rocky Mountain High?

By Hunter Ansley
draftzoo@gmail.com

Michael Vick Hold your breath.

At least that way your face might turn blue instead of red. The Michael Vick to Denver rumors have officially started.

Of course, at such an early state, it should be remembered that the rumors, for now, are just that. Vick’s agent has said that football is “on the back burner for now.” But that’s how the hiring of Josh McDaniels and the “firing” of Jay Cutler began. If there’s one thing that could put those landmark decisions in perspective, it would be the addition of one of the most controversial scourges the NFL has ever seen.

So again, get ready for the message boards to fill and the local news to buzz. True or not, this story’s going to make for good copy.

Before you decide to whack me on the nose with your last rolled up copy of a print newspaper, you might want to start rolling the idea around in your head. Vick gets out of prison this week, and while he’ll have to head east to his Virginia home for two months of house arrest, the talking heads are already spewing the possibility of a return to the West. More specifically, Dove Valley.

I know what you’re thinking, and you’re not alone. Why on Elway’s green turf would the Broncos take a chance on Vick?

I don’t know. Sure, Vick has served his debt, or at least he will have in time to make late-July practices. And it’s not like the NFL hasn’t allowed for the return of some questionable characters in the past. Ray Lewis is still playing. Cecil Collins got his chances. Albert Haynesworth stomped on the face of a fellow player a few seasons before signing a 100 million dollar contract. Vick’s return is no longer a slight possibility, it’s rounding the corner on becoming a foregone conclusion.

But why Denver? Maybe because the media on the outside is still scratching their heads over the Jay Cutler trade. Maybe they think that with McDaniels at the helm, anything is possible. But dropping a runny-nosed prima donna and picking up a safe, savvy passer is a far cry from employing a guy with the baggage of Michael Vick.

I’ve heard the whispers that the new staff is enamored with the “wildcat” formation. And from a pure talent perspective there might not be a better-suited athlete to run that scheme. It’s not like Kyle Orton and Chris Simms are in any danger of being mistaken for Usain Bolt. Still, something just doesn’t feel kosher about Vick the Bronco. The controversy cup in Denver has to be full by now. We’re trying to run an organization here, not a VH1 reality show. I’d rather see Ryan Clady line up under center if it meant one week of flying under the radar.

So take it with a grain of salt. And hopefully the whole thing will blow over. But if I’d told you a year ago that Mike Shanahan would be replaced by a 34-year-old first time head coach would you have believed it? How about if I’d said that the 4-8 Chargers would complete an unlikely run to the postseason by hanging 52 points on the Broncos? Anyone put any money on Jay Cutler throwing to Devin Hester… on purpose?

Anyway, you can breathe again. Just try not to hyperventilate when you see the first PETA billboard speaking out against “Horse Fighting.”

There are probably a deozen or more "Vick to team X" rumors already starting as we speak. What's funnier than the story, is that 2/3 of this board would be kissing his arse within a week if by some quirk of fate he actually did come here.

Let me be the first to say that I would not be among those. In fact, if people think I get under their skin now, wait until something like this happens. Hopefully it doesnt. This offseason has been enough of a blackeye as it is.

Not gonna happen.

We SHOULD of kept our 2 first rounders and gotten a true QB or DT next year by keeping at LEAST OUR #1.

People talk how Smith was the best CB THIS year. What about in '10? huh?

We're likely gonna trade a top 10 for 37 in a weak draft.

I doubt this will happen, Vick is the antithesis of what McDaniels looks for in a player and a QB. If it does happen though, I would have to seriously consider my allegiance to the Broncos. Boneheaded moves by management, losing the franchise quarter, failing to adress the D-Line, and in my opinion setting the team up for failure are one thing. I can support a ****ty team that is moving backwards instead of forwards in the hope that one day they will turn it around. To this point I have not even considered changing my loyalty to a team I have followed for literally all my life. I would seriously have to consider wether I would support a team that employs thugs like Vick though. I doubt I will have to give it any thought though because Vick as a player isn't that good, and doesnt fit the mold for what McDaniels claims he is doing here.

Ha ha...here's a crazy thought. What if...much like some people think Shanny deliberately avoided first round RB talent so he could lay claim to the Mastermind title with late round picks and UDFA scrubs who gained 1000 yards...what if McD decided he was just the genius to undo all Vick's poor habits and mold this guy and his rep at the same time?

What kind of meltdown would this place experience? It would be epic and unforgetable...and a week later half the haters would be singing Vick's praises, talking about how crappy Atlanta's line was, how his receivers sucked and the offensive system wasn't designed for him, etc...it absolutely would go exactly like that.

Not a chance Vick would come to Denver.

Denver banned pit bulls after the Rev. Wilbur Billingsley was attacked by a pit bull in 1989. He was bitten 70 times and both of his legs were broken.
The Denver pit bull law prohibits any person from owning, possessing, keeping, exercising control over, maintaining, harboring, or selling a pit bull in the city and county of Denver.

The chances that Vick is brought in to be the starting QB are pretty much zero. BUT, if it is true that the new staff wants to run some of the Wildcat, he really would be the perfect player to run those types of plays. The problem as stands with the Wildcat is there is no threat of the pass, but, while Vick is not an ideal drop-back passer, he would give that threat in the Wildcat. I don't think McD ever did any Wildcat with NE, though, so I'm not really convinced they are "enamored" with it as the article claims.

lol yep Everything... he is stupid as a box of rocks.

No doubt, not only is he not bright, word out of Atlanta is that he is lazy. He always is very lax with ball control. His arm strength is legendary, but his accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. And when things go south, his natural instinct is take running all over the place - which occasionally leads to a spectacular result by also exposes him to horrendous hits.

That is pretty much the anti-thesis of everything we have seen from Brady or Cassel over the last few years.

Further, this wanna scramble thing is why the dude rarely plays all 16 games in a season. Oh, and on that point - Vick apparently lost 20 to 30 lbs in prison. A hit by an LB now could be even worse.

This article is more about selling papers or bandwidth or air time. But what its not a reasonably thought out thesis.
