6% of the stimulus money has been spent thus far--yes, that's a paltry 6%. Factoring in projects like this makes it even less. For a looming depression with the utmost urgency, we sure are doling out the funds awfully slow. The Unemployment numbers worsen as the government holds on to the funds.

It's OK, Mr. Obama, we know you're learning as you go. We'll gladly sacrifice our livelihood so you can take 4 years to find out what it means to actually BE president, and not pretend to be president..

I would have made a better president, I would have blown at least half the stimulus money on strippers, cars, and helicopter rides. I wonder how many ton of singles you can get for 500 billion.

Let see... GWB wasteing billions building a foreign countries infastructure or money being spent putting people to work to build our infastructure here in america. I'll take the latter any day of the week. You do realize people have to get hired & put work in order for that runway to be redone.

Why not just make the entire United States one big runway then, that would put millions to work.....

Forgive me for wanting taxpayer dollars to go to something useful

The point is the runway doesn't need to get done. It's never smart to spend money on things that aren't needed

So you have no problem with this?

Murtha is a friggin crook even the dems know that. He's just too friggin powerful to stop. He is friggin old school politics.

What a joke a huge airport for no people when here in LONG BEACH our airport could really use an upgrade. LAX so busy tons of flights coming in and out of LB airport. The streets around it just can't hang.

But it's typical government spending. Throw money around and see what sticks and what ends up working. We do not have business type people in control of the country's finances. We have a bunch of career politicians and of them, 95% are lawyers. What do they know about any of this? Not much obviously.

Do you realize that there are far more important airports that need new runways. airports that are vital to the aviation system. runways that will help airline efficiency thus making them more profitable and thus able to hire even more people.

The benefit of this runway will stop once the project is done because its not important to the system as a whole. Chances are its already being bailed out as an essential airservice airport.

Apa what is happening is people just refuse to critic the new administration. They want so much to believe this guy is the savior they ignore things that are obviously B.S.

So you have no problem with this? the whole point of the stimulas was to put people to work, now people want to complain about it because it is actually going to put people to work. Either way as long as our tax dollars are being used here in america, I don't have one problem with it.

So you're fine with building something, anything as long as it puts people to work? That's the only objective?

Why not build a 500,000 sq ft mall in Montana. And when it's finally complete they can demolish it, and build it again. That will keep them working Ha!

Yes but that money could have been spent elsewhere and a much broader effect. Yes people in that area get a job while they build the runway but it stops there. That runway serves such a small demographic that it was wasteful to include in the stimulus.

They have a fund for airports to maintain and build runways called the AIP fund. Its funded by users of the system via a fee on tickets. That is what should have paid for that runway.

Stimulus should have gone to a larger market and to an airport where that project will not only create immediate jobs but also make it more efficient and cost effective for airlines to operate which in turns increaes the profit margin and allows them to lower prices and hire more employees.

Thats my point.

You are idiot then. To spend money on things we don't need when there is so much we do is ludicrous. This town doesn't need an airport this size, build them a park or something and give the rest to an airport that is over crowded.
