Sweet, I have never despised an announcer as much as kornhole. Lets see what Gruden can do. I wasn't overly impressed with his effort on the draft coverage but at least what ever comes out of his mouth will be football relevant.

Excellent! Should be a move towards more straight-forward football analysis.

I don't mind a little comedy in the booth, but Tony K. just wasn't funny.

Wow, ESPN gets some sanity. Kornhole was the worst. Fact is, ESPN doesn't need more people in the booth for MNF, they need fewer people. They should go with one play-by-play guy and one analyst. I prefer Dan Fouts.

If the game sucks, it doesn't matter who is in the booth. All the clowns in the world aren't gonna make the game more interesting. What they need is a guy who can explain the game in a manner that keeps the game interesting. A guy like Dan Fouts can do that.

it doesn't matter when you figure Gruden will be interviewing for a coaching gig in the future

....I don't recall a broadcast where I thought Kornhollio was ever enjoying the game.

so why not get someone that you know is gonna be there for 3 years? all the turnover tells me that ESPN/ABC really doesnt' have a clue what they're looking for out of that spot. I think they're just tossing people against the wall to see who sticks and who doesn't screw it up. Gruden's got no experience and could be a stammering nightmare.

Gruden didn't exactly blow my skirt up when he was called upon during this past draft to provide some insight. They kept lobbing him softballs and he really didn't do anything with the opportunities he was given IMO.

Having said that, he's probably still an upgrade over Kornheiser. Then again, so is your average deaf-mute.

Gruden was good with the NFLN and the draft analysis. I think he will have great insight on players, and coaches during the game. Anythign will be better than that d-a$$ Kornhole making totally useless comments during the game. Great Hire!!!

I love the idea of Gruden being in there. He is funny and smart and understands the game. I think he's probably a very hard worker that knows how to relate to the players and which questions to ask leading up to games. I expect we will get insight on the level of Phil Simms or Rich Gannon. The casual crowd probably won't care for him, but the diehards that like to know how plays are set up and who is targeted will get a kick out of his game calls.

Kornheiser has a fear of planes? I can see that. I don't "fear" them, but I always get the feeling I'm forgetting something just as the plane takes off...

Yeah I agree. They could replace Kornheiser with a piece of drywall and it would be an upgrade. However I'm not sold Gruden will be that great. Producers like him because of how colorful he is when he's coaching, but that doesn't mean he'll be a good color analyst. They had him on NFL network with the draft and he didn't pop like people hoped. He'll be a major upgrade simply by not being Kornheiser, but how much better he'll be I'm not sure.

Awesome.

Gruden at least will know what he's talking about in the booth, and with a bit of experience might become more comfortable in his analysis' than we saw at the draft.

Yup glad Kornheiser is out , but not sure of the Gruden move. I think there needs to be a little sense of humor to make it work well. I know they might need a bucket for his tears, but I thought Dick Vermiel complimented the other two pretty well a couple seasons ago when they all did a game together.

The Packers game with Favre's wife was the worst, IMHO... while I understand that she had a new book out and had been through a lot, that's what the pregame, postgame and halftime are for (interviews). When the game is being played, television viewers want to see the game; I mean, after all, the program is titled "Monday Night Football" not "Monday Night Interview with a QB's Wife Who Just Wrote a Book".

To be fair to ESPN, they nixed those during-the-game interviews last season after they had several focus groups and discovered viewers found them distracting and annoying.

This site posted comments Gruden made about ESPN back in 2007. He must have changed his opinion since then...pretty funny stuff!

Anyway, this is what Gruden said back in 2007 about ESPN's reporting, which had started to focus a bit on Gradkowski:

"I don't watch ESPN. I don't believe half the [expletive] people on the channel, personally no disrespect. But if Bruce Gradkowski is throwing games in Toledo, how in the hell does he lead the NCAA in passing percentages? That is a crock. You know, these reports make me sick really. I don't believe [there is] any truth to it, and I'll go to my grave believing that. I hope ESPN 3 or 4 has real sources behind this story, because it has nothing to do with the kid. He's a great kid. He wants to be great. This is very uncharacteristic, in my opinion, of 'professional' journalism."

No doubt... while she's a very pretty woman...

A. She's already married and
B. if Brett's her "type" (obviously he must be 'cause they've been married a while LOL ) then I'm sure she's not going to be attracted to an old, short, scrawny, balding putz like Kornhole no matter how many times he kisses her... or her husband's... azz.

They should never have tried that particular "experiment", IMHO... it would be like cutting away from a performance on American Idol in order to interview the songwriter who wrote another performer's song. The people who watch that show would hate it (unless the singer they cut away from was really god-awful Ha!).
