Two prospects in this year's draft had the following workout numbers.

Player A:
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 263 pounds
40 - 4.63
vert jump - 39.5"
long jump - 10'10"
short shuttle - 4.45
three cone - 7.26

Player B:
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 290 pounds
40 - 4.7
vert jump - 35"
long jump - 9'3"
short shuttle - 4.28
three cone - 7.42

Two pretty amazing raw athletes right?

Player A is Brian Orakpo, arguably the most athletic "big" in this draft.

Player B is Blake Schlueter, our 7th round center out of TCU.

Why do I bring this up? Well we've definitely dropped Engelberger, one of the key players on our STs return wedge. We also just cut Andrew Pinnock, our only true FB on the roster.

Anyone think Schlueter might find himself playing a lot more than just developmental interior lineman next season?

40 - 4.7

A 4.7 40 for a center? I have visions of him racing down the sideline, passing our new #1 tailback and picking off that last defender as KM flings himself into the endzone.

We won't go into what's inspiring those visions, however:) .

wow,,,, that's quick. However we'll see how well he moves with pads on. As it's said a million times, 40 speed is nothign compared to game speed.

The only wedge this guy might create will be between Kahn and Kuper if he is cuter than kuper.

Drek, didn't the wedge get banned as one of the new rules this year? Not completely relevant though, as I do see Blake playing some STs.

Wow, his shuttle time is ridiculous for an OL.

Good post...when i read this it made me think of him playing FB or TE down on the goal line??!!

Not sure, I don't follow rules changes until right before the season starts.

But I do find it real interesting that we dropped a FB shortly after the draft. I have a hard time imagining McDaniels is set with just Hillis and Larsen each splitting time from other positions as the FB.

Blake Schleuter = Greg Eslinger

Jaw-dropping quickness and agility ... lackluster strength and size.

He has added 70 lbs since his freshman year and 15 pounds since TCU's last game while maintaining exceptional speed and agility. If he can continue to get bigger and stronger he could turn out to be a steal.

Change the word "TCU" to "Minnesota" and that would be exactly Eslinger's post-draft capsule ;D

Seriously though, I have high hopes for him ... he'll prolly battle with Lichtensteiger.

I think this summer's gonna be a real bloodbath ... Shanahan players getting cut left and right, guys we can't even imagine now, like maybe JMFW, Boss, Stokley, Scheffler, even Hamilton. He's already cleared out lots of guys, but It's gonna get even more bumpy - this kid obviously wants to put his stamp on the roster.
