View Full Version : McDaniels learns from his mistakes

I've been critical of McD here and there, but I'm really glad to see he seems to be learning from his mistakes:

Scheffler, Moss stay. While the Broncos' second-round selection of tight end Richard Quinn seemed to lift Tony Scheffler to the trading block, the truth is the 260-pound Quinn more closely resembles the playing style of Daniel Graham.

With Scheffler making $535,000 this season and Graham scheduled to make $3.2 million, could it be that the Broncos look to move Graham? Not likely. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels thinks so much of Graham, he called the veteran before the draft to inform him of the team's interest in Quinn.

A former Patriot, Graham figures to be a leader McDaniels can ill-afford to lose from his locker room.

Great judgment...he reserved the upfrontness and honesty for the blocking TE but not the franchise QB. I don't care that he "learned", who gives a ****? He needed that months ago, not after the fact. That he finally learned it doesn't bring Cutler back, so I couldn't care less what he learned.

I haven't ever heard a single thing negative about his player-relations, aside from one malcontent who didn't want to be in Denver. The entire team sounds almost giddy about this upcoming season.

So, I'm not sure what he had to learn about. Has anyone heard Graham complaining about a TE being drafted?

Of course not. He's a pro.

I don't see how this shows him repairing a mistake. So he spoke to Graham about a TE? Was he not speaking to Graham before?

Well thats good to see

Not that he needed to, Graham isnt gonna b**** and cry and demand a trade were McDaniels to draft a TE and not consult him first.

They got inquiries for Jarvis Moss, but couldn't (according to another report) trade him for a 7th rounder???

The article mentions one post draft bronco free agent signing - anybody hear of others?

I guess that Dan Graham is pretty important! Moreso than Cutler, that's fo sho.

Some people still don't understand that Cutler wanted out before the trade rumors even started. In fact (yeah this is going to sound like a light rail story) but here it goes.

A friend of mine that I lost touch with just visited my house. His family is good friends with the Cutlers. Long story short as soon as Shanny was fired Cutler had already decided with his father that they were going to try and force a trade. The trade rumor was just icing on the cake.

It makes sense if you look at how Cutler played this thing with Bus cook.

It's all a moot point anyway but if you want to lay blame on Cutler leaving put it on Bowlen for firing Shanny and not McD for picking up the phone and doing his job entertaining trade calls.

That story is consistent with what Adam Schefter said in an interview on KOA Radio a few weeks ago - that WHOEVER the Broncos new head coach was that coach was going to have a problem with Cutler.

Even if his learning results in your favorite team being good?

And please don't insult my intelligence by responding with "getting rid of McD as soon as possible is the best thing for the franchise."

Probably because he didnt expect the franchise QB to be a huge bitch and figured he'd act like a professional

He's not supposed to be learning on the job, anyway. This is an elite job. Not a training ground.

He didn't offend the blocking TE, are we supposed to give him a medal now that he finally got a passing grade in Personal Relations 101? Great job, you learned something that's common sense.

Ahhh... so, if McD would have told Cuter that he was on the trade block, Jay would have been just swell with it and showed up to all the team workouts, huh?

Hilarious!

As I've said, there's only one player in the league with a grievance against McDaniels, and his character is questionable, at best.

IMO Cutler wanted more money plain and simple. Only reason he has no decided to wait asking for a new deal in Chicago is because they now have to formulate a new plan. Probably play the yr out, hope it goes well, then demand new deal next yr. With next yr uncapped without a new CBA Cutler could score big. Or Bears could say nope 2 more yrs still left on deal and make him play it out. That could result in a Cutler holdout.

Cutler is a whiny narcissistic pouty little bitch and good riddance to the a** hole. HE obviously didn't want to be here because his nurse maid Bates was no longer around to give him a blow job before every game and Shanny was no longer there to hold his wittle winky whenever he made a boo boo and remind him of what a stud he is and master of all he sees.

He's also a first class IDIOT runnin' around drinking himself into an early retirement ... and grave ... with full blown type 1 diabetes, but hey all power to him! He's a good Athlete, but has NEVER won anything yet since high school and is SO playing the Jeff George tune at this point. Maybe he learns but I could care less now, Just glad he isn't wearing Blue and Orange any longer.

I'm thrilled Bowlen and McD didn't cave to this twerp and exposed what kind of lame and self-centered character the kid really had. What an example of a TEAM player. Ha! And some of you guys STILL apologizing for the guy and blaming McD and Bowlen are really a riot! :afro:

Learning how to manage the player-egos/FO-leaks/national-and-local-media on the job seems perfectly reasonable.

(And the subtext to what you're saying is that if McD had reached out to Jay before considering acquiring Cassell all would be well. Which is just silly-logic.)

Yes, but more to the point: He should not have this much power. His plate is full as head coach, he should've stuck with that, or more specifically, Bowlen should have kept his word about division of power.

Josh might be a good coach, but he's a novice at this stuff, and it shows.

Of course Graham is the target. I saw this coming a long time ago just based on his salary and him being sent packing from NE. That still doesnt' justify a 2nd round selection on a blocking TE when he's not markedly different in form or function from Chad freaking Mustard.

Yea, too bad he's not working. Why isn't the greatest mind in football history working, anyway?

We'll see who's laughing in a couple of years.

Then again, we've got 10 years to win 2 playoff games to make the next decade better than the last. That's a big mountain to climb. Maybe I shouldn't be so confident.

Yeah, I'm sure Graham would have thrown a temper tantrum if he hadn't been told about it. Did he need to call Champ and Dawkins too for drafting a CB and safety in the 2nd round? I guess today's players need to be coddled and have their asses kissed. However, we do have quite a few around here that would love to kiss Cutler's ass and much more it seems.

There are too many dickheads on this board who just won't believe anything that doesn't blame McD for "running off the All-pro QB", Jay Quitler. That sort of closed minded baloney is tedious and stupid. It is not moot as long as there are idiots around who still cling to their versions of the story, none of which is fully known.... I have no problem believing your friends....

In his mind I don't think he made mistakes.

I think McD is a master maneuverer (not that I like his moves) and did not
want Cutler + half the people think its Cutler's fault.

The guy has not lost a political battle at Dove Valley yet and
now dominates every aspect of the team. He knows for success he
has to do it his way since the buck stops with him.

As I understand this offense it uses two blocking TE's instead of one anyway, so why would Graham object? And how is this relevant to Cutler being cut out by McFool who was trying to trade him before he even met him, unless somebody will now tell me he was planning to start two QB's at one time?

Silly thread.
