Is that The Wedge? Ahhhhhh, the memories.
Anyway, Hau`oli Lā Hānau, Hulamau.
Does not look like the wedge...water color gives it away.
Happy Birthday man of the Islands.

it's waimea.
Classic Waimea shore break ... Had that very same wave, only half again bigger, rip my trunks clean in half while yanking up both my body surfing flippers around my thighs many years ago when a 10 footer snuck in from outside past the main break on a 25' plus day while I was doing a little body surfing.
Knocked the crap out of me and after surviving the onslaught and being drilled into the sand I wound up staggering up the beach with the family jewels hangin' loose on full display :-)
Waimea's shore break can be even meaner than a big Sandy Beach break with the right swell.
Its much better to eat it board surfing at the Pipe or Back Door than while body surfing this shore break when it gets narly. Very little room for error.

Never been to the Islands. Didn't think any place but the Wedge had shore break like that. That's awesome.

Oh yeah man, we've got some real POWER in this ocean Rohirrim. These sdhore breaks can really hurt you big time as well.
Its no place for foolin' around that's for sure. You have to be locked and loaded to go in that.

The biggest wave I ever went out for at the Wedge was about eight feet. When it gets much past that they park an ambulance right on the jetty. My old bones can't take that **** anymore. ;D

Yes indeed, 8 feet is plenty big, inside or out Rohirrim. But when inside at places like the Wedge, Waimea and Sandy Beach, you've entered survival mode whether you know it or not!
Many a poor soul, most of them curious and naive tourists with not enough grey matter between the ears, have wound up in Hawaii's Rehab Hospital of the Pacific with a snapped neck and devastating injury by jumping in to those shore breaks when around 4 feet and above.
This is spite of the many signs posted on the beach saying not to even think about it unless you really know what you're doing.
