I know this for a fact. Since I was misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes, tho I was allowed to drink ice tea or Dr. Pepper\, when i peed at night, being unable to go to the bathroom, I was given a dibetic test. Not only did the nuse come cack saying I had NO sugar in my urine, the doctor still prescribed a drug now seen to produce pancreitis, which is deadly.
Going thru agony 3 days on this drug, I decided to die rather than take it.My BS readings varied from 220 to 18 (coma) on this drug. Only because I reported peeing alot because I excecised alot daily and could not walk to the bathroom from my bed. I was lockedin because they thought I fell out, instead, I almost died escaping due to thist and delusion.
Aspartame: The sweet deception
If you're like most people, you reach for a sugar substitute because you've been told it's good for you-that it would save you from the evils of sugar, and that it would even help you trim off those extra pounds. But, like all of us, you've been lied to.
So let me set the record straight now. Aspartame is one of the most dangerous substances ever added to food. Not only has aspartame been proven to make you fatter, it's been proven to cause some pretty serious diseases, not the least of which are cancer and neurological diseases.
And the proof is on file already. Aspartame has brought more complaints to the FDA than any other additive-ever. It's responsible for a full 75 percent of the complaints the agency gets. From 10,000 consumer complaints, the FDA compiled a list of 92 symptoms, including death.
And just who am I, to be swinging this ax?
I'm Dr. William Campbell Douglass and I've been called medicine's most popular mythbuster. I make it my mission to reveal the surprisingly inexpensive and easy road to real health - to the chagrin of pharmaceutical companies and surgeons everywhere.
In my free report, you'll learn all about the scandal behind FDA approval, the potentially deadly effects of this toxin, and some natural sweeteners that won't cost you your life.

After I started drinking Aspartimine, my weight gains were dramatic. I gained 40 pounds to 230.
Given my my now sedientary lifestyle due to a crippling injury, also a doctors error, I'm 40 pounds overwight and more suject to diabetes and heart disease than ever before.
Aspartine is a poison.

Ya, not a big fan of that stuff, either. There are a lot of problems with losing weight on that stuff, some of which isnt mentioned there. The more that crap is studied, the more comes the surface & the worse it looks.

Yep, like I had mentioned a week or so ago in a different thread.
There's no question more kids are obese now than ever before and it's pretty simple why.
For one, with video games and TV, Many kids simply do not get much exercise. When I was a kid, we got 3 channels of TV and I was outside playing whatever sport the season was at the time.
Also, the foods and especially the drinks that kids consume is just filled with sugars and your body stores that as fat the more you keep eating/drinking that type stuff.
Also explains why so many kids today have diabetes than ever before too.
On a sidenote, do not drink anything that has aspertame in it. It is in many diet drinks, so people think since it's diet, it's ok. It's not.
Please tell others you know, especially if they drink diet sodas, do not drink anything with that aspertame. Studies are coming out and not only does it actually not help you lose weight, it can cause some harmful things to your body.
STAY AWAY FROM ASPERTAME!

Really?
Yeah I thought it was hogwash but there was enough red flags to quit. When I did I got nasty headaches and little sores on my tongue. All known withdrawal side effects. It was pretty crazy.

Stuff gives me a headache if I happen to get it into my system.
I avoid it.
Straight Coke/Pepsi for me.

Diet sodas and food/drinks with substituted moeities often times have unintended consequences. I can say to try and satisfy your sweet tooth with fruits with a lower glycemic index and if you need a pick me up, take caffeine capsules instead of drinking any type of soda at all, but particularly diet soda.

You can thank the neo con Donald Rumsfeld for Aspartame.
Before he became Sec of Defense under GW Bush Rumsfeld was CEO of the company that makes Aspartame
Rummy used his sharp elbows to muscle the FDA into approving the poisonous sweeneter which, no doubt, has been very profitable for Rummy and his fellow cronies.

Hey ghaff I read that Dick Cheney was involved too. Unless I am confusing the 2, which is pretty easy to do. Was it Rumsfeld or Dick who used their political ties to push the FDA approval for this crap?
EDIT:
Never mind Rumsfeld was CEO of the company that developed it but articles I have read also mention Dick..... ?

You can't gain weight from aspartame unless you're consuming HUGE doses (e.g. the pure substance in large amounts). The whole point of it is that is a couple orders of magnitude sweeter than sugar when compared calorie for calorie. (a diet soda contains 99.4% fewer calories when aspartame is used)
In order to gain weight from normal doses (e.g. the content of a diet soda) several fundamental laws of physics would have to be broken -- namely that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It literally takes more energy to warm up the soda to body temperature than the aspartame introduces into your body.
1 calorie = energy needed to warm one gram of water 1 degree Celsius.
1 Calorie = 1,000 calories (a food Calorie is actually a kilo-calorie)
350 grams = ~amount of water in a can of soda (12 oz for us 'mericans)
35 C = ~change in temperature from a cooled can of soda to body temperature.
Number of calories to warm that soda: 35*350 = 12,250 calories ~= 12 Calories
Calories in a 350g sugar based soda = 150
Calories in a 350g aspartame based soda = 0.9 (150 * .6%)
So, when you drink a diet soda flavored with aspartame, you actually use up ~11 calories.
It's impossible to gain weight by drinking diet soda.

The question is whether aspartame has a stimulatory effect on the brain's appetite centers. I have also heard some theories that it may inhibit lipolysis(fat breakdown) in the body. That said I have never bothered to look at the scientific studies done on the topic which are rather extensive. My understanding is that little evidnece links low doses of aspartame to any of these effects and that rather large doses are required.

Rumsfeld's poison. Now is you want something to sweeten your food that is actually good for you, give stevia a try.

Really?
Yes, really. Donald Rumsfeld was the Chairman of the pharmaceutical company
G. D. Searle & Company when Aspartame was being pushed through the FDA.
He used his political connections to get it through. And not only that, Rumsfeld
got the FDA to block stevia, a much healthier alternative, because it would have
been competing with Aspartame.
