Defense is great Offense is still terrible. Only shot 1 3 pointer so far which is good. Lakers bigs playing tough in the paint on defense so far.

Who was it that siad the Lakers cant win in Denver when prior to the last game LA had won the PREVIOUS SIX GAMES IN DENVER?

Now the Lakers have won 7 straight in Denver tying for the longest such road win streak against a single team in Laker history.

Don't know what happened there, so if by some chance I"m screwing up here...lemme know. Just went to the end of it and it said thread closed.

SO

Shaping up to be ANOTHER close game, Nuggs are just plain outhustlin us here tonight. We are lookin SLOPPY. Givin weak fouls, transition D is pathetic. Pau is once again lookin pretty good, but I WISH Lamar would really step up here.

and you don't WANT to see him when he's angry.

OABB

I don't see the Lakers taking this one. They got within three and than all of the sudden their momentum stopped. The Nuggs are fired up and playing great basketball. It will take a fail of epic proportions to pull this off.

OABB
05-25-2009, 09:06 PM
Jones should be ejected.

I wonder why, seeing as how the series is fixed for the Lakers, Stern would allow that to happen.

spdirty
05-25-2009, 09:14 PM
Drives me insane. Couldve started the 4th quarter up 16 or 14 but Billups misses a decent shot and Vujajuch comes back with a 3 right away to take it down to 11.

The story of this damn series. Every single game we've had opportunities to put these guys away and a 5-6 point swing for the Lakers keeps em in it.

However, we are murdering them on the glass 47-29. Need to keep that up, or at least be even with them on the boards in the 4th. Wont trust us to win it till the clock says 00:00 or we open up a 25 point lead.

totally agree. The only way I see us winning this one is if Kobe REALLY turns it on. No one else really wants to step up apparently. Pau has flashes, but even he seems tired.

The nuggs are just handlin us tonight :(

oh well, the fourth quarter has been epic failure time for BOTH teams so far this series, so here's to hoping haha.

05-25-2009, 09:14 PM
The Nuggets are playing just like they played game 3. They can't shoot for crap but somehow they're in control. They're up by 11 after 3 but it feels like they're tied. I don't know how the Lakers are down this much playing against a team that can't make a shot.

The officiating was...again.. awful. From not pouncing on Dante Jones for the trip, to some horrific calls (the Nene 'foul' on Gasol's up and under thing springs to mind), to just moronic 'game control' in the form of a series of technical fouls for only they know what.

I'm absolutely stoked the Nuggets won.... the NBA still sucks.

LOL...did any of the Laker fans come up with a better example than the Phoenix series where Kobe checked out in the second half of game 7? I just logged on for the first time today. Im guessing they didnt. Too bad theyre not smart enough to realize that this series is actually a black eye to Kobe's rep as a clutch player. Who checks out in the second half of a game 7? You guys get really easily bent out of shape and have a very selective memory. Suddenly 3rd qtr buzzer beaters qualified for what was being discussed. You guys should really just STFU.

That was the best game the Nuggets have played in the playoffs (outside of the 58 point schlacking of the Hornets). I had the Nuggets losing to the Lakers mostly because we suck at rebounding and against an offense team like the Lakers it will come down to second chances. Well tonight we brought it and actually looked like a team that rebounds. We haven't done that all year largely because we didn't seem to care about it. Not sure what changed but if it's a trend, we have a chance. We fought through our crappy shooting until JR came off the bench and turned it on. If the Lakers are content to let Gasol and Kobe do all their work, we can win the series. They don't drive to the basket and they aren't hitting their shots. I think it will probably go to seven games.

Again, I ask what other shots were comparable besided the one that was followed by checking out in game 7? That was the only one, and again, I forgot about it because that was the same series that Kobe pulled a no show in the second half of game 7. Why Laker fans would refer back to that series is still kind of puzzling.

Kenyon Martin is perhaps the worst rebounding power forward per 48 in the league. Him having 15 in a game is like Dahntay Jones exploding for 40 points. Props to K-Mart for actually boarding it up.

Nah I decided to back off you guys. I think the refereeing has become pathetic. They are trying to control the game and they should only be in the background controlling the rules.

Calls on both sides have been pathetic 2 games in a row now.
The refs are ruining both of the current series. Can't go 30 seconds without a foul call, no flow, etc. The last Cavs-Magic game had something like 75 fouls called. Actually, is that about the same as this game 4?

My mom, who is in her 70's, sent me this in an email:

"It Seems the officiating & new rules are kind of p***Y-ish for the playoffs. jesus--let 'em Play!"

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I was at the game, I did expect the Lakers to lose this game, Lakers were just gassed after game 3 and the Nugget's season was on the line for game 4. Do the math...

Funny story, I ran into one of the sportscasters for the local news in Denver and we were talking and he said "hey man, don't tell anyone in this town, but I'm a Laker fan". Also saw the Broncos own Tony Scheffler at halftime, he has a smokin' girlfriend. WOW.

Gotta give props to the crowd, they were pretty ****ing loud (God they really hate Kobe! Booing him like he was the Anti-Christ haha) and some good fans, although a few Nugget fans got kicked out for throwing beer at Laker fans in the section next to me.

Even though Lakers lost, I still had a blast. Nothing like playoff atmosphere in enemy territory. I'm now 0-3 in away games...losses @Phoenix, @Sacramento, @ Denver. Oh and after the game, it was POURING rain. Everyone made a mad dash to their cars. I got soaked of course , but while running to the car I also slipped and fell awkwardly...not concerned about the ankle but the Knee is hurting a bit. Going to rub some 'tussin on it.:giggle:

Bunch of posers and wannabes.

What a bitter, sad little Mavs fan you are. Isn't there an NBA offseason thread you should be posting in? Maybe talking about the upcoming rebuild the Mavs are going to need to undertake? Of course, you'll probably jump off the bandwagon long before that happens, only jumping back on when (if?) they ever become relevant again.

They are obviously posing as a championship team. They have lost 3 games by 12 entire points!
And they only beat the lowly Lakers by an embarrassing 19 points.

Actually, JVG needs to look at recent history. I agree that it was dumb for Mo to make a prediction, especially considering that Orlando already feels disrespected as it is. Why add more fuel to that fire? He's probably doing it to get himself going but it could easily backfire.

I think its legitimate for the Magic to feel the puppets are a slight. In fact, Im glad to hear they feel this way. The league has a history of dubious outcomes and also one of trying to manufacture stars. While I feel Kobe and Lebron are legitimate stars, I also feel like running these ads can tempt fate...kind of like Nikes Dan and Dave campaign (where Dave OBrien didnt even make it past the olympic trials). I also dont think networks like ESPN (who are interested parties) should be running polls asking what matchup most people would like to see.

Now it's getting chippy...after practice yesterday, Stan Van Gundy critized both Mo Williams and Ben Wallace for "flopping" in game 3, which led to Ben Wallace letting this one out,"He should do something about it on the court, or shut the **** up"...mans game!

Paladin
05-26-2009, 05:56 PM
But the point is that flopping should be some sort of delay of game foul. Walton likes to flop and I think we saw Gasol flop a bit.....

But the Flakers do not flop as a group as much as the Spurts and the Hornets. Did the Mavs have a flopper, I just don't remember because the Nuggets were blasting by them so fast, I didn't notice.....

Yup, the board-crashing strategy worked big-time in Game 4 ... they won easily even without Melo scoring. So I'm expecting the same strategy the rest of the way. They might win the next two, close it out Game 6 in Denver. In fact, I think they will.

I don't. My concern with the Nuggets is now Melo. I believe they NEED him to win this series, despite what we saw last night. He has a history of staying in these funks for a while, citing injuries, sickness, whatever. If we see any semblance of the Melo we've seen the last 6 quarters the Nuggets are in trouble.

IF the Nuggets make it past this round (I still think they will lose in 7, but I hope I'm wrong) I'd love to play the Lebrons. Melo will have to pull out of his funk for the Nuggets to win, which means Lebron v. Melo could be epic.

3 of these 4 games have been amazing and it could just as easily be Cleveland up 3-1. I don't understand the D Mike Brown is putting out there. I know you kind of pick your poison with Orlando, but I'd much rather be beaten by Howard throwing a hook shot than an open 3 by the Magic. They have so many weapons and the Cavs have repeatedly left them open. Sure the Magic have done a great job of creating opportunities at times, but many times the Cavs go under screens, or just lose track altogether. How does Alston kill Cleveland like he has the last few games? Why have the Cavs consistenly given up large leads? I can't imagine Cleveland losing the next game, but going beyond six is looking very unlikely.

I hate to bring up an old argument, but I'm just really curious.

Lex's point about dismissing one of Kobe's game winning shots, the one against the Suns, was because he says that the Lakers were embarrassed by blowing a 3 to 1 lead (in a series that they had no business being up 3 to 1 in). He says that we shouldn't even bring that one up (even though it totally kills his argument).

So lets say the Cavs go on to lose this series. They had the best record in the league, #1 seed, they have the MVP, a week ago they were the best thing going because they blew out teams in the first two rounds (I didn't believe the hype, but the hype was still there). Going by the hype, they pretty much were a shoe in the NBA Finals. Now they look like they're going to lose in 5, maybe 6 games. Now that would be considered a total failure, and embarrassing. So, with all that being said, does that mean that LeBron's game winning shot is also erased? Going by Lex's silly logic, sounds like it to me.

I'm just saying ;D

I'm not sure why it was shut down, but I'm assuming it was because Lex got absolutely humiliated and exposed in that thread. It was probably shut down to prevent a possible suicide.

I posted a link, pasted the text from the link, and even bolded the key parts.

Out of the various examples provided, only one was applicable and that was the one from the Suns series. But why Lakers fans would brag about this is beyond me considering what happened in game 7.

Man, it's like the same concept. If the Cavs lose in 5 games, why would anybody bring up anything from that series? Why would anybody brag about that game winning shot. (btw, none of us were bragging about Kobe hitting that shot, just using it as an example to prove you wrong, which it did).

And you say that was the only example, but there were at least two links showing Kobe hitting a 3 point basket at the buzzer to beat Trailblazers at Portland.

According to all the spinning he did on the other thread... I would guess that the shot would not count and should not be included in any footage that includes Orlando as the team he shot it against. Kobe's shot against phoenix wasn't evidence so he must erase Orlando too.

I already said as much, genius. Once again, the attention span of Lakers fans comes into question. Ive already said if Lebron checks out (as in doesnt try) at some point in the rest of the series like Kobe did in the second half of game 7, his shot also would be obscured by checking out. On the other hand, if Lebron doesnt check out, then its not really on him...not in the same way. Its questionable whether Lebron is doing too much but its also been Mike Browns decision to have him do so.

And you say that was the only example, but there were at least two links showing Kobe hitting a 3 point basket at the buzzer to beat Trailblazers at Portland.

That wasnt comparable. Lebrons not playing with a 1999 version of Shaquille O'Neal that the defense has to respect as the primary option. Lebron is the primary option. Its different when youre the guy and you hit a shot like that.

BTW, Ive already explained all this to you before.

Ok lets say they put up buzzer beaters. There were shots in the clip that were game winners. I watched them all. So, we can agree that buzzer beaters at the end of the first 3 quarters don't count. However at the end of games they all count.

Finally, your point about Shaq makes no sense because... Kobe took the shots! Its like saying game winning shots by Jordan don't count because he played with Scotty Pippen and Tony Kukoch! Shaq would never be the first option because he couldn't shoot foul shots... Try again Lex!

Actually, Chicago was pretty much still a one man team when Jordan hit that shot against Cleveland. And no, it would not be the same because Jordan was always Batman and never Robin.

Nice try though. Looks like youll have to go back to the other Laker fans and regroup where you guys can pretend your post was some victory in your cause.

Nope, not a Warriors fan either...I live in LA and interact with Lakers fans every single day, and its funny anytime I bring up the 39 point raping last year, their immediate question is "who's your team?" Which has has zero relevance to the fact that the Lakers we're pounded in the Finals last year. Anybody who watches basketball, hell even the ones who dont KNOW that if you lose by 39 points in any game, let alone the NBA Finals, your team sucks ass!
