skip bayless from ESPN first take says "roger gooddell will feel stupid about giving the bears so many nationally televised games when they go 1-3 possibly 0-4 to start" i believe he could very possibly be right. Earl Bennett, Marty Booker, Mark Bradley, Rashied Davis, Mike Hass, Devin Hester and Brandon Lloyd are the receivers in the hunt for the starting positions. and i think we can all agree there no Royal, Marshall, or Stokeley right? that and there D is struggling.

I hope Skip is correct on the whole season as their #1 pick for 2010 rides on it for our sake. Even though the draft is all rookies, one stud wideout can help that team win a close game without the draftee. He hasnt factored that in yet plus he thinks they will have trouble with Detroit at home. That might be wishful thinking.

Cutler has shown he is undisciplined under Shanny who is known for an insistence to do it his way and Lovie Smith is more of a laid back players coach type and not offensive minded while the OC (turner?) has had issues with Jay in the past.

I'm skeptical of Hester as a reciever as well, don't know if I would say he is not a good offensive player, but I see where you're coming from. But, Forte is the real deal. With Jay now commanding respect from opponent's secondary, Forte's numbers will only improve.

I would say best case scenario, that offense is still a year away.

That was because they have no depth at RB. We had 7 RB's go on IR and still managed to out rush DA BEARS. After Forte they have that dude that is like 3 feet tall and Adrian Peterson 2.6 (2.6 YPC).

DA BEARS won 9 games last year with Orton and a weak Receving corp. Cutler makes these receivers better. DA BEARS WR's are no worse than what Elway had to work with in the 80's and he took them to 3 SB's.

DA BEARS have a very good TE, I bet Cutler helps Earl Bennet get on the field, they upgraded their Oline and if they draft a WR in the 2nd, a S, RB and LB they will be on track for a NFC title game appearance this year.

Anyone that thinks Culter will make the team worse than Orton or REXMAN have does not know football.

We are more likely to get Baja's top 10 pick from our play rather than DA BEARS.

I am guessing we would be lucky if the pick we get next year is lower than 25. Still it is ammo to help move up or trade down with.

How does adding players that make the Bears better enable them to have a worse record next year?
They'll most likely go 8-8 to 10-6 next year. That schedule isn't exactly that difficult. 9 games against teams picking in the top 10.

Kaylore

Just giving you crap about those two sentences in particular. When put back to back as you did, it reeks of a comparison of the two players.

Nobody would ever argue that Cutler isn't an upgrade over what they had. But all that is is an upgrade to that position. It's not necessarily a "team" upgrade like you are saying above.

If they get better at QB, but worse in several other positions (through age, attrition, no first rounder, injury, etc.), then is the team still "better"?

The talk on Sirius today was, the division was a toss up between, Chicago, Green Bay and Minn. The if factor for Chicago was a healthy Tommy Harris and getting help at the receiver position. Holt is now a possible for Chicago and if that happens Chicago is the front runner to win the division. I know we all hate it but Cutler makes them a lot better team. Braylon Edwards is a lock for the Giants but it won't happen till draft day so he's out of the Bears plans.

The fact is that they may have issues on D but they are still better than we are. They won't miss the 1st round pick, if they draft WR, S, LB, maybe Ol or DL they will have had a great offseason.

Harris is an injury risk but when healthy he makes the rest of the D better. We haven't had that on our DL since Keith Traylor left.

DA BEARS are not as old as people think.

Also they still have a great Return game, if they are smart and figure out a way to get Hester comfortable returning and not afraid that he will get injured every time he returns they could get points off KR's again.

Cutler will make there offense better espeically with a running game. i see them going anywhere from 8-8 2 10-6

the Broncos running game outperformed Chicago's last year and the Bears' defense was actually #21 (which is why I still don't understand why a lot of people take about their "good defense" - the year before they were #26), a mediocre offensive line, and a weak WR corp.

last year Cutler led an offensive unit to #2 in yards gained but only #16 in scoring (can't finish drives in the red zone), and #8 in turnovers. the offense was a paper tiger.

Why exactly?

To say Holt is on his last legs is being kind. He has a season or two of being average before he's toast, and a physical division like the NFC North is not the best place for him to attempt it.
