Bill Walsh?

one of the most arrogant HC to ever coach in the league. he couldn't stand his own hand-picked replacement (Seifert) rivalling his SB successes that he lobbied for a return to the 49ers in a FO position (after already retiring) so that he could undermine Seifert from within the FO. the guy was a Grade A jerk.

Putting him with Vick, TO, Pacman etc is a bit extreme IMHO...

How could you leave off "Jack Tatum"?
After he he left Daryl Stingley a paraplegic he wrote a book called "They Call Me Assassin".

Tatum was more than 25 years ago (wasn't that in 1978?). i should have put Charles Haley on the list though. Cutler is there because i'm a Broncos fan. what he did may not amount to very much for fans of other teams, but i have to consider him a jerk for breaking up what could have been a superb offense under McD. as i was thinking of possible jerks, i realized that there have been many, many to choose from in the past 25 years. that says something sad about modern day athletes i suppose.

he was out of football by 1984.

i suppose Romanowski belongs on the list of also-rans. he was OK when he was "our" jerk, but he was a real jerk when he played for other teams. he punched some teammate in the jaw in Oakland and ended his career.

My bad, didn't see the 25 yrs. I guess if I wasn't a Bronco fan I would put Romo on the list. Spitin in a guy face will get you on someones jerk list.

Biggest jerks in the NFL: the two Patriots players that came into Pagliucci's last night...

Nah, just kidding, they were pretty cool. I wish I would've gotten their names.... two black dudes. One had corn rows and was around 6'0" and had to weigh 320. The other looked to be around 6'5" 280...

The jury's still out on Cutler, but the groundwork has been laid for him to be another Jeff George.

No, punched him square in the front of the face, and fractured the orbital bones around the guy's eye.

Romo was the most obvious omission from the list, IMO.

He also broke his former Bronco teammate's arm in an extremely dirty, intentional way.

...not to mention his penchant for cheap shots and dirty plays.

Romo may have been helpful for the Broncos, but he is certainly one of the NFL's all time slimeballs.

i lived in the SF bay area when he played for the 49ers. he was no saint by any stretch of the imagination. the national media just didn't report the stuff he did. he was caught hiding in the bathroom of a massage parlor in Mountain View during a police raid for prostitution and it never made any national media. the local media there tried to cover it up too.

he was a jerk to his neighbors too. as i recall he was sued several times. he was also an arrogant jerk. didn't he demand the seahawks un-retire Largent's number so he could wear it during his short stint in Seattle?

Do you guys remember MIke Sherard? He is a family friend and played with Rice in SF. He would always tell us stories about what a cock he was. Mike's main beef with him was that his contract with SF stated that he had to get x number of balls thrown his way a game. That is enough reason to at least consider him a dick head IMO.

also, no Brian Bosworth?

i think he played within the last 25 years.

I dont think that you should consider that a bad thing. Rice is the best WR in NFL history, and this is so valuable to a franchise that a player in demand like him should look out for their interests. It is in his interest to continue to receive the ball at a high rate, and it was also in the team's interest to continue to give him the ball at that rate. That's why both parties agreed to the contract. You could say that Rice is more deserving of something like that than any other player in NFL history.

I'm not saying that this makes Rice any different in other aspects of his life if he was in fact a jerk, but you cant judge a guy for taking care of his own interests.

I think that people would be better off aknowledging that people play in the NFL to make money...not to please the fans. Pleasing the fans comes as a function of doing your job.

Personality
Charisma

Looks
Intelligence
Respect
ability to speak in complete sentences

but other than that, he wasn't bad!

That's because it's obvious this is an attempt to piss people off. Another attempt at yet another Cutler thread. This time, to try to convince folks not only he is a bad player, a terrible person, a crybaby with no skills, but ALSO the biggest jerk in the football in the last 10 years.

Give it up already, the deal is done, put the stupid thing to rest.

No doubt on all four ... but Cutler has current STAR power.

Cutler overreacted, but he never missed a mandatory team function, and at least there's the argument his coach lied to him about trying to trade him.

Haynesworth, Romanowski, Carruth and Septien ... there's no defense or argument there. They all committed crimes, actually.

you're the one obsessed. it's not a cutler thread. it's an off-season "top 10" list like any of 100 other offseason "top 10" lists. Cutler had to be on my list because he's a jerk in my eyes now. but you see a deep conspiracy i guess. the same sort of conspiracy you think McD and Bowlen engaged in, huh? Cutler is not listed as being a bad player. he's not listed as a crybaby. he's not listed as a terrible person. in fact, he's not even listed as the #1 jerk on my list. i think you've got a bad case of MDS... McD Derangement Syndrome.

If McD hadn't pursued the entire Cassel thing, would Jay still be our QB? Yup. And anyone who feels that the limit of entire affair was a random phone call that was quickly brushed off is gullible. He obviously pursued the guy he wanted, and it fell apart. Had none of that happened, we'd still have our QB.

He SHOULD have been focusing soley on our anemic defense and special teams... (blah, blah blah.)

i should probably have made a distinction between being a jerk and being a thug. there is a list of top 10 thugs in the NFL for sure... including the likes of Lawrence Phillips, Rae Carruth, that OL from Dallas who was caught with hundreds of pounds of pot in his car (what's his name?), etc...

i was just pointing out who i thought took the cake in terms of being bad teammates and/or badly behaving players.

when you sit down to come up with such a list, you realize just how many jerks there have been in recent years. then you think back to the 50's and 60's and realize there were fewer jerks back then because fewer teams would indulge such a player. looking at my top 10 list, can you honestly imagine Lombardi tolerating most of those fools on his roster? or Landry for that matter?

See earlier post by the Why Guy. Now he gets a pardon from me but you can certainly make a case for him on this list.

I like to add the complaining about Steve Young running too much. He also complained that Steve Young threw a funny ball because he's left handed.

Again, he gets a pass from me but he & Marvin Harrison were quiet jerks.
