Yes, it is Masters week. The best golf tournament in the world. I can't wait to watch it on DirecTV this year with how they are setting it up.

Of course everybody thinks Tiger or Phil are the favorites but I'm calling it now. You're 2009 Masters Champion will be Geoff Ogilvy.

Not seeing the favorites do well this year. The weather will likely be an issue.

Got to go with a darkhorse this year. Pat Perez.

Watch for Karlsson to be in the mix also.

I absolutely love the Masters. I like the Ogilvy pick a lot, but he'll be carrying the weight of Australia on his back as no Aussie has ever won at Augusta. I've heard that they've set the course up to be borderline unfair which means there's always a chance for a complete fluke winner.

I'm taking Gary Player to win what he has vowed is his final Masters.

My sentimental pick is Couples, as it always is, but his play last week could be a confidence booster and Augusta has always treated him well.

I think Tiger is hungry after a four year drought, and if he's putting well I think we could see another 10 stroke win.

Whatever happens I will love watching it.

THE MASTERS IS SWEET!!!

This year my buddies and I have set up a first ever Buddies Golf Trip/Tournament set up around the Masters. We're calling it the Bastard Masters and we even got a green jacket off ebay to give away to the winner. Golf in the morning, watching the Masters in the afternoon! We all picked a fantasy group of golfers who are playing in the Masters (someone took JB Homes - we haven't told him yet he didn't make it) and will be combining those scores to our golf scores in a completely arbitrary and convoluted point system.

I can't wait to get out of work and on the plane!

I hope Fred Couples can break away from the pack to win, but I don't see it. My (extremely original) pick to win is Tiger. The guy is coming on right now and though he hits a lot of trouble shots he's got the mind game to still get it up and down with ease. I would have claimed that we'd see Padraig show up, but I just don't have faith in him and Lefty to actually come through this week.

For you golf fans: Tales From Q School (http://www.amazon.com/Tales-School-Inside-Golfs-Fifth/dp/0316014303) by John Feinstein. EXCELLENT read.

Oh, and DirecTV is doing a special, six screen display that shows any number of different locations from around the course, allowing the viewer to essentially watch all the action at once. Pretty sweet.

.

Let's hope not. This is NOT the US Open. The greens at Augusta are more then challenging enough and alot of the bunkers are total death. They already moved several tee locations back several years ago as well as added in some more trees closer to the fairways and yes, the now actually have a long rough cut. I'm not sure what else they could do besides move the tees even futher back, or let the rough grow even longer. If they do that the course will be absolutely too brutal. Part of the fun of watching the Masters was guy, even though they have missed the fairway slightly, still had a long shot to make the greens, and from there, we all know how tricky and fast they already are. If they grow the rough even longer, you won't see alot of the guys taking risks. Which sucks because that is a great risk reward type of course. The Masters is already the best course in the world and the best tourny in the world. They don't need to go trying to turn it into the US Open.

Unfortunately they've been moving steadily in the direction of the US Open over the last decade. Ever since Tiger blew away the field in '97 the good ol' boys have been been slowly stripping the Masters of everything it was.

It was the ultimately unique golf tournament for decades, but the black one scared the whiteys into changes that never should have come to Augusta, and as a result it's slowly becoming more like the other majors out there.

All that said, it's still my favorite.

You think Augusuta is unique?

The half circle under the hoop was added in Basketball because Shaq so dominated the sport that they had to change it.

The mound was added to baseball because hitters (specifically Ruth) so dominated the sport they had to level the playing field.

It has NOTHING to do with Woods being black you dumbass. It has to do with him being SO dominant. Nicklaus, Palmer, Hogan, all were awesome, great, legendary golfers but they were not so dominant against the rest of the field like Tiger is.

Augusta, like almost every other sport worth note, is adjusting to the players who are improving. Like every other sport, the generations of players get better and better. Its not because he is black moron. They would have done it with any golfer who so dominated his opponents like Tiger has.

The Masters is run by the PGA. My theory is that they want to make it challenging, but they also have an interest in promoting their players and making them look good. The US Open is run by the USGA which puts the game of golf first. They will try to make it challenge the players to the extreme, bringing them to their knees, and making them look human.

You don't think it had anything to do with new equipment allowing players to hit driver/W on every hole? The course was designed to test all clubs in the bag and they had to adjust the course to accomodate newer technology. Scores are still similar to what they once were.

Fans can spot John Daly at Augusta this weekend, even get their pictures taken with him, but it won't be on the course. He's across the street hawking T-shirts and other memorabilia, the New York Post reports.

Daly is ranked 783rd in the world, has no exempt playing status to get into PGA Tour events, said he lost between $7 million and $8 million in sponsorship dollars last year and has no idea where his game is after sitting out the past six months in part because of a PGA Tour suspension.

"I don't have one sponsor right now," Daly told The Post "I'm on the verge of bankruptcy with the bad economy and the loss of sponsors. I don't want to go that route."

Daly, whose weight increased to 280 pounds at one point, had Lap-Band weight loss surgery seven weeks ago and told the newspaper he already has lost 40 pounds. He also is working with Phil Mickelson's former coach, Rick Smith, getting ready to play in Europe in a few weeks. He also says he's working with a therapist to address his personal problems, which have included divorces, drinking and financial issues.

"I've always been down on talking to a shrink, but I'm not ashamed to say I'm doing that right now," Daily told the newspaper. "I've had so many things going on in my life that I need it to help me. He's helped me settle on realistic goals. I've always expected too much out of myself and it's probably ruined my career to this point."

Daly says he badly wants to return to form but won't get ahead of himself. For now, he's standing across Washington Road from Augusta National, selling T-shirts, head covers, hats and practice balls.

I wish Mr. Daly the best of luck and maybe in the future they'll let him back in the gates of Augusta. Maybe he can become a caddy or sell pimento sandwhiches.

I'd love for Tiger to go out and shoot 63, but I just don't see it happening.

He's never won a major from behind, never mind from a full seven shots back. It's something that's sorely missing from his legacy. Once he gets in front he's more or less unbeatable, but ironically enough Tiger is pretty **** at hunting.

Should change his name to Bull Elk I think.

Hope Cabrera wins it of the top 4, he's a lot of fun to watch. Plays the game like he's not bothered, just goes out and gives it a thump and tries to make birdie every hole.

Hope Cabrera wins it of the top 4, he's a lot of fun to watch. Plays the game like he's not bothered, just goes out and gives it a thump and tries to make birdie every hole.

Yeah I love Cabrera. Since he is at the top I dont see the field coming back to far to Tiger and Phil. Interestingly Kenny Perry has a sick dad, he is trying to win it for his father, and Cabrera is trying to win it fro Seve Ballesteros, who has just underwent surgery for brain cancer. Both have very good causes and I would not mind either of them winning.

Phil is playing amazing right now. He is not scared by Tiger at all.

If Mickelson can finish around -13, he has a real chance to make this comeback to win.

too bad the finish by phil and tiger was so sloppy.

It would have been fun to watch Perry sweat a little on these last holes.

Ludo...Perry is already sweating. If he bogeys on this 18th hole...playoffs are coming up.

TW will be in the mix. Lefty might not make the cut

Why wouldn't he be? He plays good and contends pretty much every year there. This thread was full of jumping gun conclusions. Perry has it won, Angel C is done. Got to watch it all.
