Dont know if anyone has started a thread like this but, since we're inching closer to the Draft I wanted to see who everybody has in mind. Simple as the title...tell us your ideal draft scenario with picks 12 and 18. Given they keep both picks.

Mine would be...

12. B.J. Raji

18. Rey Maualuga

Not bad. The perfect scenario would of course to be able to trade #12 and slide down to #16 and pick up Jackson there while getting a 2nd rounder (high 3rd at least).

I would take Raji or Everette, but I'm convinced they'll be gone. I guess any combination of Maualuga, Tyson, Matthews, and Ayers would work for me with a second tier of Moreno and Sanchez (either/or). I would prefer D all the way. I've kind of lost interest in Cushing after seeing those before and after pics.

PS: I love Peria Jerry but could he fit in a 3-4?

I think that would define "franchise".

This would be a total boom or bust scenario, but it man would it be exciting.

Trade the #12 for Peppers

#18 take Moreno/Maclin- I just love the idea of Maclin and Royal together.

2nd Rd take Pat White- Groom him at QB....Oh QB Master

3rds take 2 D-Lineman that fit the 3-4

Crazy I know but super high entertainment value.

Offense is set for a while, Peppers and we do have 2 #1's next year to continue to bolster D, which would be much improved within this scenario anyway.

Matt Forte, Kyle Orton's RB, was selected in the later rounds. I think we can hold off on the RB for a round or two. We need people who can be the foundation of a 3-4 defense. We should take the best pass rushers available with the 12th and 18th picks.

My two favorite players in the draft are Knowshon Moreno and Rey Maualuga, so of course that would make me happy. And with Cutler gone, getting a top tier running back makes more sense now than it did before the trade. But, just because they are my favorite players available it doesn't mean they are the best fits here. Of course Raji falling to us at 12 would be great, but if we could get one of these scenarios: a) Moreno, Maualuga in first Brace in 2nd or b) Jackson, Maualuga, in first Brace in 2nd I would actually prefer that to getting Raji in the first. But that is totally dependent on getting Brace in 2nd for NT. With our extra picks we could even move up, though I would not want to lose either 3rd rounder to do so.

DrFate

It will most likely be a DT/DE at 12 and a LB at 18

I don't think Raji will fall to 12 and I don't think Maualuga will fall to 18

I don't see how Peppers fits in a 3-4 - is he dropping in coverage? Plus the cap ramifications...

My guess is a guy like Jackson and then a guy like Cushing.

Here is one take on the USC LB

The Way We Hear It — draft edition

Maualuga's bust factor scares NFL teams

By Nolan Nawrocki
April 1, 2009

Editor’s note: Check back later today for an update on USC’s pro-day workout.

Entering the season, scouts were enthralled with this year’s MLB class, featuring Ohio State’s James Laurinaitis, USC’s Rey Maualuga and LSU’s Darry Beckwith, all of whom received high marks from evaluators.

However, as the season progressed, concerns were brought to the forefront. Maualuga began missing too many tackles, Laurinaitis stayed blocked too long and Beckwith could not find the football.

With a chance to redeem themselves at the NFL Scouting Combine, none of them stood out, as Maualuga pulled out of the workout with a hamstring injury suffered running his first 40-yard dash. On Wednesday, Maualuga has another chance to prove himself at USC's highly anticipated pro-day workout, but the way we hear it, nothing Maualuga does will erase the concerns teams have about him on tape and off the field.

“Chart how many times he is on the ground,” one longtime evaluator said, “and you will see why I think he will always struggle in the pros. He had so much talent around him — that defense may be as talented as I’ve ever seen in college. It covers up a lot of mistakes.”

For as fearlessly as Maualuga may run through contact and as violently as he may deliver some big hits, he too often struggles to break down in the open field and gets caught out of position by taking false steps. His instincts still leave a lot to be desired. Scouts that revisit the Trojans’ loss to Oregon State have come away even more unimpressed, as Maualuga’s shoddy tackling was identified as a major reason for the 27-21 loss to the Beavers.

Despite leading the team with 12 tackles, Maualuga was not able to stop Oregon State RB Jacquizz Rodgers from consistently gashing the defense straight up the gut. Maualuga’s sprained right knee reportedly did not have any swelling after the game when an MRI was taken. However, he did not play against Oregon the following week, as Brian Cushing replaced him in the middle, leading scouts to question how much the benching was related to injury and how much was related to performance, the latter of which inside sources say was a greater factor in his absence.

Laurinaitis and Beckwith both brought great leadership to the field and have been model citizens off it. The same can not be said for Maualuga, who program sources publicly said had matured after finding trouble early in his career while dealing with his father's battle with cancer.

Maualuga not only showed poor judgment preceding the Rose Bowl, when he mocked ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, and later apologized, inside sources also have pointed to the need for Maualuga to be closely monitored, as well-trusted fellow linebackers Keith Rivers and Cushing were deliberately assigned to be his roommates on the road to provide the stability he needed to stay out of trouble.

"He has a high bust factor," said one NFL executive responsible for stacking his team's draft board. "There is a lot there that scares me. There is a right price for everyone, but I would not feel comfortable taking him in the first round where we are picking. The money is too great. You cannot afford to make mistakes and expect to recover from them."

I've heard alot of trashed talked about the guy from draft gurus and football smart people but everytime I watch the kid play I'm impressed with his intensity and athletic ability. It seems the guys around him see him as a leader and a cog that made USCs defense what it was. I'd love to see a guy like that play on Sunday for the Broncos. If a team wanted Scheffler you could probably use him to trade up in the 3rd round, or maybe get like a low 4th to 5th round pick for him.

In first round Sheff at most would gain you 1-2 spots and then only if team trading with you knew they could get player they wanted at that lower spot.

TE that have been injured a lot, never scored over 10 tds in a season, just aren't worth that much.

The only skill guys that are worth a lot in trades are ones that score TDS.

I feel the same way about Moreno....not to the Chargers.

#12-Raji, Maclin, Sanchez, Jackson, Moreno in that order

#18-Jackson, Moreno, CB (S.Smith or Butler)

2nd and 3rd's should fill out a DL, LB, RB, CB draft.

I just can't stop loving the idea of finding a way to get Maclin or even Crabtree. It puts pressure on Marshall to shape up and if that happens (however unlikely) any QB will have success with Marshall, Maclin, and Royal. Even Matt Cassel.......Hilarious!

since day 1 is not only 2 rounds .. and we have 3 picks it won't happen unless we trade up.

with the 5 picks in top 84 i would be looking at DT/NT, DE, I/O LB, CB, RB.

In the last 5 picks DT/NT, QB, WR, C, S

I switched it to top 3 rounds but, you replied already :).

My dream 5 top 84 picks if no trades:

Fav #1
DT/NT DE S OLB RB

What I'm expecting

DT/NT DE OLB RB WR
