First off, if we make the playoffs. I think all sins are forgiven. However there are other possibilities.

1.) We miss the playoffs because both Defense and Offense are aweful.

2.) We miss the playoffs because the Defense is aweful but the offense is same or better than last year.

3.) We miss the playoffs because the Defense is better but the Offense is aweful.

Poll Coming.

So we've gone from a team that expects to compete for Super Bowls (and making fun of other teams that set their goals so low as to just "make" the playoffs) to one of those ****ty teams that just hopes to bounce in at 9-7 or 10-6 and go home after the first round.

Awesome.

Hey but don't worry. We have Kyle Orton.

its better than expecting super bowls every year and fading down the stretch. i hated going into week 10 knowing the team isnt gonna last to week 17, much less playoff game 1.

No excuses. We better be at least .500. Don't give me this tough schedule bs.

I agree. And that's one of the main reasons I came to terms with the Shanny firing.

But that doesn't really have anything to do with the events that have transpired over the last month.

Posts like this are just so depressing.

I cant vote in this poll 8 wins i would be ecstatic .... what would piss me off is the team foldin , I dont care if we go 4-12 as long as the guys fight hard from opening kick off until the bitter end ..mcD has some grace period .......

There's the answer, right there. I saw the team quit a few times last year. THAT'S unforgivable...

The Broncos needed the change. I didn't like the idea of trading away our QB, but I have come to accept the firing of Mike Shanahan as necessary to move this team off the 8-8 mark.

There will be some pain in the short term, but if this new coach is worth the confidence Pat Bowlen seems to have in him, the Broncos should be competing for play-off position sooner than later.

I say that only because the have the most valuable of all assets for building a solid future; draft picks. High draft picks and a whole bunch of them. If, and I understand it's a big 'if', those high draft picks turn into real players, the franchise should turn around fairly quickly. If not, well, won't go there.

As for '09, there maybe should've been another option; a mediocre defense with a passable offense, good for maybe 6 wins and maybe even a solid upset along the way.

Yup ...

And the two mid-1st round picks we just got?

Maybe DJ Williams and Jarvis Moss types ...

Maybe George Foster and Willie Middlebrooks types.

We may not pile up the yardage of this past year but we could very easily bring up our scoring. I think it will be a year of a more consistent though less explosive offense and our defense will bring us down again.

None of the above. This team is going to struggle this season because of so many changes.

Everyone here understands your perspective, but "righting" the ship takes one concrete goal at a time. Let's first find a way to win the division. No more humiliations by the Chiefs and Raiders, and no blowouts by the Chargers. Start there, stay focused.

Atwater, I guarantee the team has the same goals, but this team has had a very difficult time focusing "one game at a time" the past couple seasons. They said that was important, but they didn't do it. There's no way we should have lost to Buffalo last year. We would have gone to the playoffs if Shanahan could have focused the team for that game.

So this year, forget about the championship unless it falls to you. Just get better every week and try to win the division. Don't even think more than 1-2 weeks ahead.

Goals mean nothing if there isn't a concise plan on how to reach them. "Championship" is too "pie in the sky" right now. And that's a good thing for this rebuilding team.

Nice post. I'd add that they have to start winning at home again too. Teams used to hate coming to Denver to play. Not so much lately!

I don't expect this team to make the playoffs. I didn't expect them to if Shanahan and Cutler were still here.

Well our pass did improve a lot this season, so that's a good thing.

To bad it disappears in big games and down the stretch.

But it will get much better within the next two season.

That assuming McDaniel's really commits to the defensive side unlike Shanny didn't.
