View Full Version : Why I carry a gun
PEOPLE ASK WHY??
My old grandpa said to me son,' there comes a time in every mans life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin'.
I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.
I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.
I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.
I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.
I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.
I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.
I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.
Police Protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.
Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'.

Aren't gun owners a lot more likely to get shot by their own gun or a loved one to get shot by that gun than to use it save their life?
I don't begrudge anyone owning a gun, it's their Constitutional right, but I think in most cases it's stupid and dangerous.

Me and my father are both permitted , rare i carry but he does like everyday.
When you are dealing with "some" moron truck drivers everyday i suspect it's a good call on his part ... Most those guys are ok , some are totally borderline bipolar at best ...
But let me set a scenario for you Spider ...
Driver F's up a truck and gets fired . Decides to run his mouth and threaten dispatchers or my father and lets say he tries to do something stupid and touch someone , and gets shot for it .
The only p***Y in this scenario is the bully moron who runs his mouth in public , threatens violence and makes the mistake of laying his hands on someone he shouldn't have ...
Trust me there is nothing p***Y about my father ... From the Military for 8 years , to the growing up on a farm when you plowed with horses ...
And i have heard stories of him being able to beat MUCH a$$. Always from others cause he want tell me $hit about his past LOL ...
And I have always known if I or someone else every tried to go hand to hand with him he would go all G.I. joe and break your arm or something .
But personally I think he would rather just shoot someone then fight them ...
Why bother fighting ... there isn't much worth fighting over , and anything worth it is most likely worth just shooting the dumb MF'er and not wasting 5 mins ...
But Spider IF YOU EVER see a full dressed blue Volvo CDX truck with some old gray headed RIGHT WING CONSERVATIVE driver who you disagree with , AND YOU WILL DISAGREE eheh :O) ....
DON'T TRY TO THROAT PUNCH HIM !!!!

Boasting about owning guns is one of the ring wing's anti-government mantras these days, it serves them well eh?
---------------------------------------------------------------
They're coming to take our guns away (http://www.salon.com/opinion/kamiya/2009/04/07/richard_poplowski/?source=newsletter)
Cop killer Richard Poplawski is an extremist. But amid the deafening din of the right wing's anti-government rhetoric, how extreme is he?
By Gary Kamiya
April 7, 2009 | It would be convenient to pretend that Richard Poplawski, who killed three Pittsburgh policemen on Saturday with an AK-47, was just a right-wing nutcase. A devotee of the white supremacist Web site Stormfront, Poplawski believed that the United States was controlled by a secret Jewish cabal that had a master plan to abrogate freedom of speech and use the U.S. military to police Americans.
It would be easy for us to cordon Poplawski off, pretend that his ugly and paranoid worldview had nothing to do with the Obama hatred spouted by the American right. But the truth is that Poplawski's hateful views cannot be separated from the increasingly extreme ideology and rhetoric that characterize the contemporary American conservative movement. As his friend, Edward Perkovic, told the Associated Press, Poplawski feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon."
Such obsessions don't come out of a vacuum. Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and the GOP have been whipping up hatred and fear of Obama and "liberal Democrats" for years. Joined by the National Rifle Association, which has run false and irresponsible ads claiming that Obama is planning to take away Americans' guns, they have encouraged and helped to create a pathological right-wing subculture in which free-floating hatred of "the government" mixes with a maniacal fetish for guns. Poplawski is the diseased fruit of that ugly tree.

This undated photo released by the Pittsburgh Police shows Richard Poplawski.
Yes, Poplawski dwelt in the most extreme part of the right wing. He is responsible for his action. You can't tar every conservative because a pathological murderer shared some of his or her core beliefs. There has been no epidemic of shootings carried out by whacked-out readers of "The Turner Diaries." Only the most unhinged neo-Nazi wing of the right will defend Poplawski's actions, just as only the most brain-dead "radicals" defended Lovelle Mixon's shooting of four Oakland police.
But the Lovelle Mixons of the world do not have a powerful media machine, not to mention a major political party, loudly whipping up fears that policemen are coming into black communities to terrorize their inhabitants. With the collapse of the GOP into the party of Rush Limbaugh, and as Limbaugh and his ilk grow ever more reckless in their attacks on Obama, the boundaries between "respectable" right-wing paranoid hatred and "extreme" right-wing paranoid hatred are getting more blurred. Right-wing fanatic du jour Glenn Beck teased his recent Fox show with images of Hitler, Stalin and Lenin and said that he was wrong to say that Obama was leading America to socialism -- because Obama is actually a fascist. "They're marching us towards 1984," Beck intoned. "Big Brother, he's watching."
If the demagogues on the right had any conscience, the Poplawski case would force them to realize that their shrill ravings border on incitement. But they won't. There are ratings to be maintained and a rabid base to be catered to. If every now and then some disturbed member of the base loses it, it's not their problem.
Poplawski's black-helicopter and anti-Semitic ravings put him at the outer edge of the right. But his paranoid fear that Obama was going to take away his AK-47 is mainstream among conservatives. That fear, fomented by the NRA and echoed by right-wing commentators from Lou Dobbs to Limbaugh, is ubiquitous online. A right-wing, pro-gun Web site I Googled at random, Theodore's World (slogan: "The PC Free Zone Gazette is American first and Conservative second. It is never anti-American!"), highlights several stories about black men who killed police officers. Commenting on one incident in which the suspect was wounded by another policeman, someone posting as "Bob F" writes, "It's too bad when the cop's partner shot back, he only wounded him. Now the taxpayers are going to have to pay for medical treatment and prison. The cost of a bullet is probably only .50 cents. Unfortunately, it's only going to get worse on the streets as Obama and his minions disarm law abiding citizens while criminals run rampant."
Much of the responsibility for this paranoia lies with the NRA. During the presidential campaign, the NRA ran ads that falsely painted Obama as coming for Americans' guns. Screaming that he had a "10-point plan to change the Second Amendment," the powerful lobby claimed that Obama planned to "ban use of firearms for home self-defense" and "ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns."
The NRA's ad was a tissue of lies and distortions. In fact, Obama has -- characteristically -- staked out an extremely cautious, centrist position on gun control, one that has disappointed many advocates of more far-reaching gun control laws. He has never called for banning the use of firearms for home self-defense, nor has he called for handguns to be banned. He has adopted the conservative "individual right" interpretation of the Second Amendment favored by the right wing and the NRA and opposed by gun-control groups, many legal experts and the New York Times. When he has called for gun control, his positions have been moderate. He has called for the registration of handguns, making the ban on assault weapons permanent, closing the gun show loophole that allows private transfers of arms, banning high-powered ammunition that could pierce policemen's protective vests and for national legislation against carrying concealed weapons.
It's true Obama has taken some earlier positions, regarding the regulation of handguns, that might lead some zealots to wonder if he was really a True Believer in Americans' God-given right to pack heat. But none of those positions, and certainly not his careful current stance, could remotely justify the NRA's hyperbolic and alarmist claims.
When the nonpartisan consumer advocate Web site Factcheck.org, run by the Annenberg Foundation, asked the NRA to explain its false and misleading statements, its public affairs officer simply replied, "We're comfortable with what we put on there. We believe our facts." Apparently the fact that their "facts" are not facts, but opinions, is of no concern to the NRA.
When accusations are based on ideology, not facts, they acquire an ominously conspiratorial tinge, one that plays into the psychopathologies of losers like Poplawski -- or like Timothy McVeigh, whose life bears a disturbingly close resemblance to Poplawski's. And you'd have to go back to Barry Goldwater to find a degree of conspiratorial paranoia equal to that being pumped out by the right today.
Opponents of any form of gun control have always painted themselves as law-abiding citizens who simply demand their constitutional right to defend themselves against armed evildoers. Theirs is a Hobbesian world in which law enforcement cannot be trusted to stop criminals. Hence their favorite slogan, "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns." Poplawski proudly subscribed to that belief.
If the right wing keeps whipping its troops into a frenzy by accusing Obama of being a fascist, gun-hating dictator, America may have a new group of outlaws to fear: freedom-loving, gun-worshipping "patriots" like Poplawski.

I don't like guns, but a situation came up and got me thinking. I was sleeping with my wife and about 3am the alarm in the house went off. I felt basicaly helpless. Call me a pussy if you want, but at that point i was worried for our life. With no weapon in our bedroom, I ended up going out checking things out with ADT on the phone. It ended up being the wind blew the door open from the garage. I would of definitely felt safer if I had a gun in my hand.

Britain tried major gun control and all that got them was a crime rate soaring since the criminals were the only ones with the guns. If you can convince the criminals that owning a gun is a bad thing, then maybe the gun control folks have a point.

Britain: From Bad to Worse
Dave Kopel, Dr. Paul Gallant and Dr. Joanne Eisen
Thursday, March 22, 2001
During the 19th century, and most of the 20th, Britain enjoyed a well-deserved reputation as an unusually safe and crime-free nation, compared to the United States or continental Europe. No longer.
To the great consternation of British authorities concerned about tourism revenue, a June CBS News report proclaimed Great Britain "one of the most violent urban societies in the Western world." Declared Dan Rather: "This summer, thousands of Americans will travel to Britain expecting a civilized island free from crime and ugliness ... [but now] the U.K. has a crime problem ... worse than ours."
Not surprisingly to many observers, the violent crime rate has risen dramatically and steadily since gun bans have been instituted. That's a trend seen wherever strict gun control laws have been implemented. And that's the part of the story British officials have tried to keep under wraps.
A headline in the London Daily Telegraph back on April 1, 1996, said it all: "Crime Figures a Sham, Say Police." The story noted that "pressure to convince the public that police were winning the fight against crime had resulted in a long list of ruses to 'massage' statistics," and "the recorded crime level bore no resemblance to the actual amount of crime being committed."
For example, where a series of homes were burgled, they were regularly recorded as one crime. If a burglar hit 15 or 20 flats, only one crime was added to the statistics.
More recently, a 2000 report from the Inspectorate of Constabulary charges Britain's 43 police departments with systemic under-classification of crime – for example, by recording burglary as "vandalism." The report lays much of the blame on the police's desire to avoid the extra paperwork associated with more serious crimes.
Britain's justice officials have also kept crime totals down by being careful about what to count.
"American homicide rates are based on initial data, but British homicide rates are based on the final disposition." Suppose that three men kill a woman during an argument outside a bar. They are arrested for murder, but because of problems with identification (the main witness is dead), charges are eventually dropped. In American crime statistics, the event counts as a three-person homicide, but in British statistics it counts as nothing at all. "With such differences in reporting criteria, comparisons of U.S. homicide rates with British homicide rates is a sham," the report concludes.
Another "common practice," according to one retired Scotland Yard senior officer, is "falsifying clear-up rates by gaining false confessions from criminals already in prison." (Britain has far fewer protections against abusive police interrogations than does the United States.) As a result, thousands of crimes in Great Britain have been "solved" by bribing or coercing prisoners to confess to crimes they never committed.
Explaining away the disparity between crime reported by victims and the official figures became so difficult that, in April 1998, the British Home Office was forced to change its method of reporting crime, and a somewhat more accurate picture began to emerge. In January 2000, official street-crime rates in London were more than double the official rate from the year before.
So what's a British politician to do when elections coincide with an out-of-control crime wave? Calling for "reasonable" gun laws is no longer an option. Handguns have been confiscated and long guns are very tightly restricted. So anti-gun demagoguery, while still popular, can't carry the entire load.
Conversely, the government would not find it acceptable to allow its subjects to possess any type of gun (even a licensed, registered .22 rifle) for home protection. Defensive gun ownership is entirely illegal, and considered an insult to the government, because it implies that the government cannot keep the peace. Thus, in one recent notorious case, an elderly man who had been repeatedly burglarized and had received no meaningful assistance from the police, shot a pair of career burglars who had broken into his home. The man was sentenced to life in prison.
The British authorities warn the public incessantly about the dangers of following the American path on gun policy. But the Daily Telegraph (June 29, 2000) points out that "the main reason for a much lower burglary rate in America is householders' propensity to shoot intruders. They do so without fear of being dragged before courts and jailed for life."
So what's the government going to do to make voters safer? One solution came from the Home Office in April 1999 in the form of "Anti-Social Behaviour Orders" – special court orders intended to deal with people who cannot be proven to have committed a crime, but whom the police want to restrict anyway. Behaviour Orders can, among other things, prohibit a person from visiting a particular street or premises, set a curfew, or lead to a person's eviction from his home.
Violation of a Behaviour Order can carry a prison sentence of up to five years.
Prime Minister Tony Blair is now proposing that the government be allowed to confine people proactively, based on the fears of their potential danger to society.
American anti-gun lobbyists have long argued that if America followed Britain's lead in severely restricting firearms possession and self-defense, then American crime rates would eventually match Britain's. The lobbyists have also argued that if guns were restricted in America, civil liberties in the U.S. would have the same degree of protection that they have in Britain. The lobbyists are absolutely right.

On a June evening two years ago, Dan Rather made many stiff British upper lips quiver by reporting that England had a crime problem and that, apart from murder, "theirs is worse than ours." The response was swift and sharp. "Have a Nice Daydream," The Mirror, a London daily, shot back, reporting: "Britain reacted with fury and disbelief last night to claims by American newsmen that crime and violence are worse here than in the US." But sandwiched between the article's battery of official denials -- "totally misleading," "a huge over-simplification," "astounding and outrageous" -- and a compilation of lurid crimes from "the wild west culture on the other side of the Atlantic where every other car is carrying a gun," The Mirror conceded that the CBS anchorman was correct. Except for murder and rape, it admitted, "Britain has overtaken the US for all major crimes."

Recent bull**** from Clinton and Feinstein...lying ****s of the first order.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You may have heard Secretary Clinton or Senator Feinstein mention recently that 90% of guns used in crimes in Mexico come from the US. Nothing could be further from the truth, according to some great reporting done by William La Jeunesse and Maxim Lott of FOX News.
ATF statistics shows that 83% of the guns found at crime scenes in Mexico could NOT be traced to the U.S.
An ATF spokeswoman, seeking to clarify Clinton et al's comments on the 90% figure, said the statistic "is that over 90 percent of the traced firearms originate from the U.S."
So how many are traced?
In 2007-2008, Mexico said it recovered 29,000 guns from crime scenes.
Only 11,000, or 32%, were sent to the US for tracing, because the others were obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S.
Of the 11,000 guns Mexico sent to the ATF for tracing, only 6,000, or 55%, were successfully traced.
Of that 6,000, 90% were traced to the US -- hence Clinton/Feinstein's 90% claim.
So in sum: 90% of the 55% of the 32% of guns found at Mexican crime scenes came from the US.
Mexico's crimes are overwhelmingly not carried out with American guns.

If guns are so great, how come there are 4 times as many murders per capita in the States where guns are largely legal compared to most of Western Europe where guns are largely illegal? I know, it is cultural right? then how come Canada has a murder rate that is almost identical to that of Western Europe, so does Australia and New Zealand (two countries founded almost exclusively by criminals).
I will spell it out as a service to the slowminded. You think thug A has a gun, so you buy a gun to protect yourself. Thug A, realizing that you have a gun decides to get a gun. Your son/daughter/housekeeper sells your gun for money for drugs to thug A. Now thug A will use your gun to commit crimes and you are no better off.

A whole country with millions isn't exactly one data point. Least we forget the Americas were settled by people that wanted to get away from Europeans. I also question the validity of any of these statistics from Britain, the US and so on because they are collected by different people and are not consistent for a valid comparison. We keep our guns here not for fear of getting robbed, but in case we have to take up arms against Government and that's precisely why they can't take them away. If it's the right course of action and opponents to our second amendment know it's true then they should be able to convince the populace for an amendment to repeal the 2nd amendment. They can't and they try to cheat with all levels of nonsense from outlawing certain guns, to taxing ammo, to limiting to ridiculous levels the amount of ammo you can buy.

You may not know it when it happens, but your tiny tenant frequently gets the hiccups, which babies master before breathing. Babies don't make any sound because their trachea is filled with fluid rather than air.
Although you've probably gained between 5 and 10 pounds / 2.2 - 4.5 kilograms, the fetus weighs in at around only 2.5 ounces / 70 grams. It measures nearly 4 inches / 11 centimetres long, crown to rump. Legs are growing longer than the arms now, fingernails are fully formed and all the joints and limbs can move. You may be able to find out the sex of your baby by ultrasound now, since the external genitals may be developed enough that the ultrasound technician can tell you if you're going to have a boy or a girl.
If the idea of having a baby seems so remote, nothing makes it feel more real than feeling your baby move for the first time. Most mums-to-be discern movement (called quickening) between 16 and 20 weeks. If you've been pregnant before, you'll feel things earlier rather than later. What you may first think is a rumbling stomach may be your baby doing some back flips. Make note of when you first start feeling the baby and tell your midwife at your next visit. This middle stage of pregnancy is a good time to start exercising.
• Note: Experts say every baby develops differently - even in utero. These fetal development pages are designed to give a general idea of how a fetus grows in the womb.

to 15 weeks after fertilization
The fetus makes general movements and startles from about nine weeks.[21] Movements include complex motor patterns, and localized movement of the arms and legs, together with hiccups, stretches and yawns.[21][23] The breathing-like movement of the fetus is necessary for stimulation of lung development, rather than for obtaining oxygen.[24]
Artist's depiction of fetus at 18 weeks after fertilization, about 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) crown to rump.At nine weeks the fetus is able to bend fingers around an object; in response to a touch on the foot, the fetus bends the legs or curls the toes to move away from an object.[25] During weeks 9-12, the face is “well-formed” and the fetus is three to six inches (152 mm) in length.[26] From weeks 9 to 12, the head makes up nearly half of the fetus' size, the fetal eyelids close and remain closed for several months, and the appearance of the genitals in males and females becomes more apparent.[26] The fetus begins drinking amniotic fluid about twelve weeks after fertilization,[27] for hydration and nutrition.[28] Tooth buds appear, the limbs are long and thin, and red blood cells are produced in the liver, however the majority of red blood cells will be made later in gestation (at 21 weeks) by bone marrow.[26] A fine hair called lanugo develops on the head. The gastrointestinal tract, still forming, starts to collect sloughed skin and lanugo, as well as hepatic products, forming meconium (stool). [26] Fetal skin is almost transparent. More muscle tissue and bones have developed, and the bones become harder. The first measurable signs of EEG movement occur in the 12th week.[29] By the end of this stage, the fetus has reached about 15 cm (6 inches).
This is beside the point but relevant.
Most UFO repeaated abductions happen at 3 months, where they are essentially incubated in order to dissociate from the mother.
