Sebelius Pays Back Taxes
By Robert Pear
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, President Obama’s nominee for secretary of health and human services, said Tuesday that she and her husband had paid $7,040 in back taxes and $878 in interest after discovering “unintentional errors” in their tax returns for 2005-7.

Ms. Sebelius said she had erroneously taken tax deductions for certain mortgage interest and several charitable contributions. In a letter to the Senate Finance Committee, Ms. Sebelius said: “In July of 2006, my husband and I sold our home for an amount less than the outstanding balance on our mortgage. We continued paying off the loan, including interest we mistakenly believed continued to be deductible.”

Ms. Sebelius said she had been unable to locate records needed to document three of the 49 charitable contributions she and her husband, Gary Sebelius, had made. She is the latest of several Obama nominees to acknowledge underpaying taxes. Mr. Obama’s first choice for health secretary, Tom Daschle, withdrew after paying $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest, arising in part from the use of a luxury car and driver.

I think it says one of two things. Either they're are dishonest, or our tax code is so complicated that the wealthy people high up in our Government can't even understand it.

Given how many people are having this problem, I am inclined to think
this just illustrates how screwed up the tax codes are rather than
any dishonestly by the people in question. It would be interesting
to know how many Reagan, Clinton, Bush appointees had similar problems.
Did we hear about it at the time, or where they just ignored because
we didn't have the 24/7 instant info the internet and cable now gives us.

Or someone big has a more complicated tax form and thus has more likely hood
of getting bitten by an error. Show me where Kathleen did anything malicious.
She did pay the taxes, and the interest too. So obviously she wasn't too
big to pay taxes.

The real question is would have these people paid these taxes if they had not bad to because they wanted to be in Obama's administration.

I can so for sure any tax I have not paid was totally on purpose. Hilarious!

These are people that LOOOOOOOVE to tax people and then "forget" to fully disclose their own taxes. Hypocrisy and we didnt have this problem with W Bush in the golden age of internet, blogs and 24/7 tv. Just quote for us the small percentage of taxes they didnt pay compared to the budget and tell us how miniscule it is to worry about.

We know if these were Bush appointees, the lefties would be pissing their pants about this, but since it's a democrat and Obama to boot, they get a free pass.

So Michael Brown as FEMA head was an excellent choice because his tax returns were in order?
So Harriet Meyers on the Supreme Court was an excellent choice because her tax returns were in order?
The "lefties" were pissed with Bush because he was appointing idiot cronies to fill important government positions.
Not because some accountant doing their taxes made a clerical error.
