View Full Version : So what's your poison?

What acoholic beverage do you most consistently drink?

Im a big fan of beer myself. Budweiser is my staple, but on occasion I go for a flavored ale. Usually a darker ale but not too dark.

When it comes to spirits though, Im a whiskey/scotch kind of guy. MOstly whiskey but when its a special occassion I'll go for the scotch and water, hold the water please. I generally drink Crown and Coke's (like tonight, because Im feelin frisky). Crown is the single best thing that has ever come out of Canada. Its the only whiskey I can actually drink straight (though I dont prefer it straight). Dad calls it "sippin whiskey" but I just call it Crown.

I guess for specialty drinks my favorite would be the Hurricane, but only with light and dark rums with a shot of 151 on top. The way Pat O'Brien makes/made them in New Orleans. That's really the only way to go. Long Islands are OK if you dig a hodgepodge of liquors but Im not really a fan.

Anyway, what is your staple, your "go-to-guy" so to speak, and what are some of your favorites?

I rarely, rarely drink, but for me it's a White Russian.

Or, if I plan on getting drunk, just Vodka.

I go to beer the most. I'm usually always trying new ones. I love the micro brews/craft beers. I like some imports, but after having a beer in Germany and then one of them here, there is no comparison. So I typically don't go for the imports. During the winter I can hardly stay away from Sam Adams Winter Lager.

I love whiskey's and coke too. My wife has finally started to like them as well so we been drinking more of that lately. Crown is definitely delicious so is Makers Mark. I like to sip on scotch too.

My other poison would be tequila. (not Jose, that's not tequila). I love doing shots, no lime or salt needed. If I have a good one I could even sip it on the rocks.

I would rather spark one up than drink, but if I am out, I enjoy a few Red Bull and Vodkas.

If I am drinking beer, I enjoy a few Red Stripes now and then.

Crown and coke, Corona with a lime slice, Coors Light, Blue Moon with an orange slice. Don't drink more than, say, once every 3 or 4 months though. But when I do thats what I drink.

Depends where in the world I am, I am a beer man but I do like a nice whiskey on occasion and wine with food or without.

In Denmark I will go for a Ceres Royal Export if I have the choice, it is a good strong lager. For beer parchisi I find a cheap lager to be better, something along the line of a Ceres Top or Harboe Pilsener or Slot Pilsner, they are easy to drink fast.

In most of the UK I will go for Caffreys except if I can get a hand pumped draft of local brew which is always preferable.

In Canada I go with Labatt Blue.

On occasion I will drink Alexander Keiths Indian Ale, Molson Export, Mill Street Organic Indian Pale Ale and others.

My cousin raves about Blue Moon. I had it a couple of times. Its OK but I didnt see what was so great about it.

My dad suggested Alaskan Pale Ale, he had it when he went to Alaska and its not too bad either.

I just tried that Budweiser American Ale yesterday. It wasnt too bad. Probably on par with Blue Moon. Nothing to rave over but good enough.

I used to like Pete's Wicked Ale from time to time but Ive found it to be too bitter these days.

I prefer a lager over an ale most of the time. But as worm said, I dont necessarily discriminate. Ive only had one beer in my life that I absolutely hated and that was Guiness. I know a lot of folks like it but it was garbage to my taste buds. Bleh.

Vodka.... good, clean fun.

Not a big drinker anymore (not that I ever really was), but I enjoy a cocktail or two when I can. Nothing wrong with beer, either... but I generally want something lighter. I can have a good vodka on the rocks with a little lime or with some club and cranberry and not feel like I just at a large meal, as I often do after a dark ale. (For instance.)

The trick with drinking... drink just enough, and it's a proven healthy way to diffuse stress and live longer. Drink too much, and it'll kill you.

See I cant do Vodka of any kind. Ive had numerous from low end to high end Vodka's and its the only alcohol that makes me puke. I dont even have to drink a lot of it. The thought of vodka in a drink makes me want to vomit. Its really the only spirit I refuse to drink, yet I know so many people that LOVE vodka.

I wouldnt say Im a heavy drinker. I usually go in spurts and seldom ever "binge"drink. That is, I dont drink to get drunk. I like me a good buzz, enough to where I shouldnt drive but not enough to be a moron. Id say I drink probably on the order of 4-5 times a week, depending. Sometimes I go several weeks without a drink. Last night I drank a six pack, tonight its been crown and coke's, but prior to that I hadn't drank any alcohol in about a month. Last time I was "drunk" was the KC game in Denver and boy was I hammered. I mean, hammered. My uncle came to town and me and dad and him got "faschnickered" (rep to whoever can name the movie thats from).

I guess I dabble in a Blue Moon when I have the chance, but mostly vodka. Maybe mix it with Propel or Poweraid, but shots is the usual. Seeing as how alcohol is bad for you, I don't sse any point in casually having a drink or 2 with dinner. If you do something that's bad for your liver you just as well get drunk off of it or don't have any at all??? Personally

That's definitely unusual. As liquors go, it's generally the cleanest and most people report much less hangover with Vodka. For most people, what you're describing would be Tequila.

I'm mostly a beer guy. The list of beers I like is pretty long, but Corona, Sam Adams, Rolling Rock, Land Shark and Michelob are my favorites. Don't really care for Budweiser at all, and I hate Bud Light with a passion.

Beyond beer, I love Washington Apples, Jager Bombs, Rum n' Coke and Tucker Death Mix.

I've got a pretty nice bar in my home. By nice I mean loaded with alcohols not expensive wood or anything lol. It's just a big antique fireplace mantle on the wall, with a sideboard underneath it against the wall. It works really well though.

I get sick of one thing and move onto to another.

Right now I have been drinking a lot of Grey Goose and Level vodkas either straight up on the rocks, or mixed with a juice or something.

Also french vanilla and grey good white russians, very tasty.

That and my friend brought some really good original Bubba Kush back from his hippy friends in Santa Cruz. Very tasty.

For the budget Vodka I have always bought Stoli.

Sky is a joke, so is Absolute IMO. Kettle One not much Better. Belvedere pretty good I think although we haven't taste tested that one yet.

I did a tester with non vodka drinkers one night at my house. We had about 8 brands going. Grey Goose won so consistently I think it really is the best tasting. But I actually like Level Vodka just as well, even though it lingers slightly more then Grey Goose, IMO.

It's expensive but if you buy Tequila made with 100% Agave you will never get a hangover. The blended Tequila's like Jose Cuervo made with sugar will split your head in half. The good Tequila is for sipping only, too expensive for mixing drinks. You are right about the poison stuff!

I don't have bad trips because I don't take them unless I am in a real good place mentally. But that's enough of that, there are thousands of websites dedicated to educating people on these things if they really want to know about it.

I love your attitude, I wish more folks could have it.

The World is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real, because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round, and it has thrills and chills and is very brightly colored, and it's very loud. And it's fun, for a while.

Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they've begun to question, 'Is this real, or is this just a ride?', and other people have remembered, and they've come back to us and they say 'Hey, don't worry. Don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride.' and we KILL THOSE PEOPLE.

"Shut him up! We have alot invested in this ride! SHUT HIM UP! Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real."

It's just a ride.

But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that. You ever noticed that? And let the demons run amok. But it doesn't matter, because ... It's just a ride.

And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear wants you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead see all of us as one.

Here's what we can do to change the world right now, to a better ride:

Take all that money we spent on weapons and defense each year and instead spend it feeding, clothing, and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and WE CAN EXPLORE SPACE, TOGETHER, BOTH INNER AND OUTER, forever ... in peace.

I have those same exact feelings for Tequila not Vodka. I used to like doing shots of tequila until one weekend i was feeling ballsy at a party and attempted doing shots of tequila for a Power Hour (drink one shot every minute for an hour, beer is the ideal drinking substance), I figured i'd do a few tequila shots then switch to beer, well we got going and people started to egg me on, a couple shots led to 8 then i finally switched to beer but fell out of the Power Hour around the 12 min mark, mind you I had been doing shots before the power hour. I do not recall much of what happened next until I had my girlfriend halt the car on the side of the road so I could puke my guts out. Never been able to look at tequilla the same since.

I usually stick to beer because of how cheap it is, Bud Light is my "go to guy".

At the house, I've been trying all sorts of beers, mostly stouts and darker beers lately. Samuel smith makes an absolutely DELICIOUS oatmeal stout

YES! yes, yes. Finally someone who agrees with me. Guinness is like drinking a cold cup of black coffee.

On my 26th birthday, I did 8 irish carbombs. By the 7th one, i was thinking how politically incorrect that name is, and how I intended to write the king of ireland to change it. After that point, all i remember is hands on my junk and someone telling me to run, because the nothing was after me. So I am right with you on Guiness.

The cool thing about getting older, and not needing to get blitzed, is that you can slow it down and appreciate a finer grade of alcohol.

Hear, hear! Do we have a clanking glasses icon? If not, we need one.

I go for bourbon, Irish or Scotch on the rocks... or sometimes just neat.

Another upside is you miss some extra calories, too, just drinking a shot or two.

Fat Tire Amber Ale
Wynkoop - Kurt's Mile High Malt
Flying Dog - Doggie Style IPA
Sea Dog Bluepaw

It's all about micros, but when in doubt, can't go wrong with a Guinness or Sam Adams.

In my college days (listen to me... "my college days" lol), Red Bull and Absolut Citron was the bomb. I would also drink Hpnotiq straight up, and lots of it. don't know what a mind eraser is, but I would down those at parties.

Dry Martinis are good, just not flavored - Grey Goose or Svedka vodka or Bombay Saphire gin.

As for wines... I don't know a whole lot about wine, but you can't go wrong with a good Cabernet Sauvignon.

Guinness is just concentrated nasty.

The best type of drinking is fast and furious, you want to be sitting down so that when you get up you fall down because you don't realize how drunk you are. This type of drunk is best achieved with a candy/vodka mix or tequilla, although you can do it if you start with a bottle of bacardi and 1 can of coke and you keep refilling with the bacardi - incidentally I can't hold bacardi ever since a few epic times of being drunk on the ferry between Denmark and England.

Well, I like Beer, Wine, Whiskey (1. Bourobn, 2. Irish, 3. Scotch), and good Tequilla. What i am drinking is all about my mood. If I'm in for the long haul drinking its usually a lighter beer (not light beer - but a pale ale, irish stout, or a domestic) or tequilla. If I'm drinking just to enjoy the present a good beer or good wine. If I am drinking alone or just having a drink, Beer and either scotch or bourbon (on the rocks). If I am drinking outside its either beer, irish whiskey or tequilla.

Crap now I want to skip work and hit a bar. I think I'd order a Maker's Mark on the rocks and an Odell's Red Ale right now.

Up until recently, I've been a Bud Light guy. Now it's Miller Lite. I had it once some months back, now that's mostly what I drink. I do like some variety from time to time. Had some of that Danish Elephant Beer the other night - not too bad. Not a big liquor guy but I do like a Crown and Coke or a Seven and Seven on occasion. The hard stuff hits you differently, I think. The other night I was drinking some 7 and 7 and just out of nowhere, it seemed, I was out!

All in moderation.

Beer most of the time. Blue Moon, Shocktop, and then your regular domestics such as Budlight, Miller Light, and Coors Light.

If I feel like "tying one on" then I'll grab the bottle of Patron (Silver) which is much better than Julio! Patron is the single best shot on earth. Smooth going down and then an after burn that is as good as it gets. Simply put, it's smooth enough that even a lightweight can enjoy it going down!

Specialty drinks I'm not a big fan of... with exception of a screwdriver. Little Vodka and Orange Juice and crushed ice and I'm a happy camper. The kind of Vodka doesn't matter much, but I have noticed that Absolute Citron and Three Olives are both good for their price. One of these days I'll get my Goose on and see what that's all about!
