View Full Version : How America Treats Its Soldiers

Of course, it shouldn't be any surprise. America has treated its soldiers like crap since the Revolutionary War when Congress refused to pay them. It's amazing to watch Congress vote itself pay raises, give themselves a lifetime pension and lifetime health care coverage, and vote for million dollar bonuses for their criminal patrons on Wall Street and meanwhile, they can't even cover the wounds our soldiers suffer fighting the wars that Congress sends them to fight. When do the American people wake up and realize it's time to start building guillotines?

This is a fairly common topic. Everyone talks about how poorly soldiers are paid and treated but the end result is that many of those who are in the military don't necessarily have many other options. I was personally mixed between grades that weren't really good enough for college and not knowing what I wanted to do anyways so I joined.
As long as people continue to sign up, the military wont be forced to change anything.
The US Army is already at 130% of their 2009 quota. They're ending reenlistment bonuses for a lot of things because the economy is forcing people in. As long as the ranks are full, why do they need to change?
Now, that's the realistic side of it but the other side is that service connected disabilities should, obviously, always be covered. The tragedy of this story is that they should light up that VA doctor who said it was nothing. If noone's mentioning him in this, the point is being missed.

How do you raise pay, lower standards, allow your officer candidates to dry up and your best NCO to walk unabated? Military really needs to take a look at itself and start to refocus on it's greatest resource of it's own soldiers and start to rebuild the NCO of the future instead of allowing stupid disconnections in policy create broad sweeping antipathy and apathy.
