RB Johnson gets probation for assaultsComment Email Print Share Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has pleaded guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace for separate incidents involving women at nightclubs last year.

A Kansas City Municipal Court judge sentenced Johnson to two years probation on Friday. His guilty plea will be removed from public record if he finishes the probation without further incidents.

Johnson will not be allowed to consume alcohol or be at any Kansas City bars or nightclubs after 9 p.m. while on probation. He also must complete anger control counseling and 40 hours of community service.

Johnson was originally charged with assault for allegedly shoving one woman and spitting a drink in the face of another last year. Those charges were changed to disturbing the peace.

Chiefs, Johnson Set For Grievance Hearing Next Week
Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 27, 2009, 8:46 p.m. EDT

Disgruntled star running back Larry Johnson and the Kansas City Chiefs are readying for a grievance hearing next week to haggle over $3.75 million in guaranteed money, according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star.

During the hearing, which is set to begin Wednesday, Johnson’s contract will be debated. And it promises to be quite a showdown since Teicher, citing a source, said the team will probably cut Johnson if they win the grievance.

Under the terms of a multi-year contract extension signed in 2007 and negotiated by former Chiefs General Manager Carl Peterson, Johnson is supposed to receive payouts of $3.5 million in 2009 and an additinal $250,000 in 2010 whether he plays for the team or not.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are making the argument that Johnson’s one-game suspension levied by the NFL last year is a “breach of his contract,” that abdicates them from being required to make the scheduled payments.

Of course, Johnson has repeatedly asked for his freedom. He reiterated that stance since the regime change to General Manager Scott Pioli and coach Todd Haley.

According to Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffer, his client plans to attend the Chiefs’ offseason training program that’s set to launch Monday.

“Right now, Larry’s focus is preparing for the upcoming NFL season,” Schaffer told the Star. “He’s a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, so he’s doing everything in his power to help the Chiefs win the Super Bowl. So he will be there.”

However, the question of whether Johnson will remain with the team following Wednesday’s hearing is another matter altogether.

I know he was suspended one game by the league for personal conduct violation last year. Not sure whether that was assigned to this infractipon or not. The team suspended him for more than that.

It's time for Larry to go.
