View Full Version : Anyone out there rolling with the Treo Pro?

I'm due for an upgrade on my phone, which is currently the Treo 700. I've been with Treo since 2001, when they first introduced the Treo 600. despite some of the phone's shortcomings, I've loved it. It's served me well over the years - until just recently when an untimely drop at just the wrong angle on concrete caused it to wig out on me - losing everything. No, I didn't have my stuff backed up - I moved computers and kept putting it off. Ah well.

I had considered going to the Blackberry, but the guy at the Sprint store said he was a Blackberry fan all his life, shunning the Treo, until the Treo Pro came out, and he switched posthaste. He says the Treo Pro is much better than the Blackberry due to speed and features (says the browser is much better).

I had a Treo 650 and really liked it before the iPhone came and crushed all other phones. (IMO.) But, what about this PRE that Palm has coming out? I hear it's supposed to be excellent.

Palm really screwed up by sitting stagnant for so long. They missed a bunch of great opportunities. People were loyal to their platform, but they just stopped improving it.

Anyway, this PRE is supposed to be cool, if you're not an iPhone or Blackberry type.

I've got a Treo Pro on order, should be in soon. Unfortunately it's not for me personally but I will have my hands on it plenty. I'll be using it to test this cell phone based traffic alert application.

Also will be playing with the following: HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch PRO, LG Incite, Samsung Epix, HTC Fuze, Samsung Omnia, and Samsung Saga. Have been using the HTC Touch Cruise for the last few weeks.

Anyway, I can't wait to try it out as I'm in the market for something like this myself and it sure looks cool.

I just bougth the Iphone and I just can't believe what I was doing withou it all this time. I had the Treo 750 before that and the Iphone is just a lot more cooler. Plus all of these new touch screen phones are really playing catch up to the Iphone. The apps that u get are pretty neat too, and I still have not pay for the first one. The only thing that sucks so far is that ATT doesn't offer insurance for this phone, and Apple just offers a extended warranty but nothing covering loss or theft.

I was thinking "this is pretty cool. Might compete with my iphone" right up until I saw him trying to open pics. That was painfully slow. The iphone remains king.

Right up till someone sends you a picture message that you need to write the code down then go find the picture. I heard they are fixing this in the next update though.

I love the Pandora app. though makes long road trips a lot of fun

I have a couple friends that have the Iphone and my wife does also. Cool phone till, you know actually want to call someone with it. (drops a ton of calls. Her friends that have the phone have a set rule that whoever started the call is the person to call back.)

I forgot to add you need the right type of phone too. Blackberry World Edition is able to handle the different standards. I don't know about the Trio or Apple.

I'm with Popps here. I had a blackberry and it was OK but the iphone is hands down the most versatile and fun device built that serves as phone yet so much more, heck just the apps justify buying it. The only problem is you have to use ATT as your provider. Oh and if you are ever travel out of the country you better shut off the data side or you will get a bill in the thousands.

Actually ATT's international plan is not that bad as long as you turn the data side off you can still check your email and surf the net when you find a wi fi signal or you can buy blocks of data time for reasonable (about $200 a month for all the data you are likely to uses and that covers the world I believe.

Well I just came across this. http://www.satellitephone.com/#meinav=globalstar

Unless I'm missing something this phone works pretty much all over the world, their plans are unlimited minutes for $49.95/month. Each year they decrease the service fee down $10.00 until you reach just $19.99/month.

Roaming minutes are $1.39 when out of Home area. I guess that would mean the US?

From what I remember the contract between ATT and Apple expires in 2010. If you wanna get an iPhone minus the ATT contract you will be able to, starting in July.

For the record, I have a 3g iPhone that has been jailbroken! Best thing I could've done!

Sorry baja, not sure how to "unlock" the iPhone. Jailbreaking is basically hacking into the iPhone's operating system to customize and d/l different apps for free. My younger brother helped me out last time I visited him. I'll see what he knows about unlocking maybe I can point you in the right direction.

Yeah, it's a project I took on with one of my professors here. It's what I'm taking the extra semester to work on.
