McDaniels: “Jay’s our quarterback.” Now with PHOTO PROOF?
by Lindsay Jones on March 24, 2009

DANA POINT, Calif. — That silly NFL, always knowing how to stir up the drama.

AFC coaches met with the media here this morning, and after the hour-long breakfast session, the coaches of the original AFL teams posed for pictures with their team’s throw-back jerseys.

Guess which player’s jersey was here for McDaniels to hold up? Yes, folks, that is a No. 6.

Sorry for the rudimentary photography from my BlackBerry (surely you’ll be able to catch the footage tonight on ESPN), but here’s a picture of McDaniels holding up Cutler’s jersey. The back does indeed say “CUTLER.”

McDaniels was able to laugh about it moments later when he stepped off the podium.

“I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any other player,” he said.

McDaniels had just finished an hour-long interview with a handful of Denver reporters and a gaggle of national media. At one point I counted 30 reporters crowded around his table. McDaniels was the only coach who attracted a “standing room only” crowd.

That son of a bitch. I can't believe he'd say something like that. It's obvious he wants to be the Patriots West and is doing everything he can to sabotage this organization, while at the same time destroying Cutler's trade value and pissing Jay off so he doesn't want to come back.

That looks quite a bit like his Vandy jersey. Anyhow, I wonder if McDaniels is going to go into full Jay-suck up mode. Start walking around the owners meetings wearing a Jay jersey. I'd laugh my @$$ off.

Yea, I agree.. the biggest issue is simply that he lied to Cutler's face. If you are seriously considering bringing in your own boy, don't be a big wussy and tell Jay "Hey, you're my guy!" So afterward, if he says, "Hey.. you really ARE my guy!"... why should Jay believe him?

I think it's a trust issue more than anything. I think Jay should just suck it up though, and play as well as he can, within the new 'system,' so if it does come down to a trade, it won't hurt his chances.

the way he held up the jersey...so arrogant. clearly he hates jay and you can tell by the way he's holding up his jersey. it's like he thinks it stinks or something. which must mean he thinks jay stinks or something...er, out.

Who cares about that!!! Did he look to the left or to the right when he answered and did anyone find out if he is Left or Right Handed?

I actually like this. You could go either way with the interpretation on this one... either he's being a complete douche, or he's making more of an attempt to reach out to Jay. I'm gonna go with the latter and hope I'm not wrong.

Yes, and his eye contact brings into question his sincerity. That and it almost looks like he's trying to picture Matt Cassel in that jersey. And he's wondering if he's holding the way Belichick would hold it.

Did he change our teams colors? I know he said all Bronco related things must go through him, but that takes a lot of nerve! Not surprising though.

I must admit I learned alot during this saga. I assumed Jay wore number 6 because he was a huge fan of Bubby Brister nope. He picked 6 because it equalled his maturity level.

I applaud him for reaching out. Personally, he's a bigger man than me. I would have waited for Jay to apologise, shipped him or benched him. That's why I'm not a coach.

Now Jay has to man up get over his little cry and be a part of the team. The coach is holding out an olive branch. Its a big thing for a man to do. Particularly in the spotlight. Jay's turn.

Perhaps he should wear a hoodie to his next interview :peace:
