40 people voted Kyle Orton #1?? That's why I never put any faith in polls.

The Bengals, suck. Their offensive line has sucked for 2 years now. People forget that Carson Palmer is an excellent QB.

He's had 2 WR's and nothing else worth mentioning on his team for 2 years now.

Campbell, definitely right now. And I'd call Tavaris pretty comparable, really. Ranked him slightly higher because at least he can move. If Jamarcus gets some football players around him, he'll move up.

I personally think if you swap Cutler and Rivers teams, SD wins way more than 8 games and Denver loses a few more.

I must grudgingly admit that Rivers DOES now look very legit to me, which is why I have him ranked very high.

Ben is no way behind Cutler Rivers Palmer and Warner. Ben is probably 3. Give me 3 choices at QB and I take Brady, manning, and Ben. I mught take Ben over Manning. Dude just does everything right to win.

Yeah you know after I posted that I felt weird having McNabb that high. I was going to place him at 9 behind big Ben, but he has had a pretty good career so I gave him a bit of an experience credit and since he came on strong last season after being benched. I really think 5-9 are pretty damn close to one another so that's the reason for the contemplation between 5 and 9 and ending up going with 5.

Different systems really. One is more pass oriented while another is suppose to be more run oriented. Rivers main advantage over Brees is that I trust him more during crunch time. I believe during his three years with the Saints, he has only led them to one victory when his team was behind at the start of the fourth quarter. So yeah the lack of 4th quarter comebacks hurts him. You also have to take into consideration that Rivers did more than Brees ever did with almost the same talent (especially considering that LT and Gates were injured throughout the entire year).

A note for the peanut gallery: if you don't like my rankings, put your money where your mouth is and post your own for all of us to critique.

Otherwise, close your trap and keep on lurking.

Anyway, I heavily weigh their most recent performance (this past season) which is why I ranked Rivers higher this year than last year. But you can't just ignore their previous years which is why guys like Hasselbeck and Bulger might seem to be ranked high to some people. But maybe you should take a look at Haasselbeck's play since 2003 and look at the numbers he's put up. Yeah, he's in a weak conference but he consistently gets his team into the playoffs and made it to the big game in 2005. For those who don't pay attention to football outside of Denver, Hasselbeck struggled with injuries the whole season as well as his entire wide receiver corps. Look at some of the names that were running routes for him back in the first quarter of the season.

Hell, someone had Carson Palmer ranked #3 in this thread. He's been horrible since his ACL injury but I certainly understand the reasoning behind the ranking because his struggles has a lot to do with things beyond his control. Though I think #3 is way too high for him, I'm not gonna jump down the guy's throat for it.

If I had to pick on someone's rankings here, it would be putting Matt Ryan at #5. Though I think he may very well deserve that honor in a few years, ranking him that high at this point in time is pretty silly.

That is a great list. Posting them in tiers is much better because the difference between 3-5 and 7-11 could be tiny and could be arguably ranked in so many ways. I almost posted it in tiers but I was following the way ESPN's little poll was set up and the way everyone was posting them in here.

I would put Big Ben in the upper tier though. :)

Like I said, the fact that him being benched was even discussed drops him into a lower category. The same applies to McNabb, even though both are very good quarterbacks most of the time.

Rivers parlayed his offensive talent into the second highest scoring offense in the league last season. My second tier of quarterbacks is actually very simple statistically:

Drew Brees and the Saints: #1 scoring offense in the NFL last season
Phillip Rivers and the Chargers: #2 scoring offense in the NFL last season
Kurt Warner and the Cardinals: #3 scoring offense in the NFL last season

None of those three quarterbacks had a strong run game. The rankings seems pretty fair to me.

Well, I agree that Ben should be in the upper tier but that's not the reason why.

I love Drew Brees but he hasn't really won a big game in his entire career yet. Rivers has. Ben deserves to be ranked that high because despite that incredible defense he has behind him, he has the ability to carry his team when needed.

Ben has the knack for making the plays when his team needs them. That's obviously a huge plus. I don't know about carrying his team though. Pittburgh's run game sucked but their defense never put a whole lot of pressure on Ben to score on a consistant basis.

Brees got his team to a conference championship game.

Fair enough on your ranking of Ben. It's not like you ranked him #12 or anything and it's much easier to get nitpicky about rankings at the top of the list rather than at the bottom. :)

Ben's only real problem is his inability to read defenses. A rookie like Matt Ryan puts him to shame in that regards. Ben also relies too much on athleticism to get by. He can't throw with anticpation at all, and has to wait for his receiver to be open before he throws it with his strong arm. The reason he got sacked so much last year was also because of his inability to read defenses, as opposed to his oline being horrible. He never adjusts his line or make calls at the line of scrimmage to help protect himself. And if you notice, a lot of times his oline is asked to block for more than 5 seconds on those extended plays.

But the guy does get it done in the clutch I'll give him that. He can play horrible for 55 minutes and somehow become Elway in that last 5 minutes.

Cool concept. Really, when you get outside of Manning and Brady there is a lot of room for conjecture. I suppose you could also create an outstanding, but health is a question tier for Brady and Palmer. You could also create a jury is still out category for Quinn.

Pretty good, but I'd say you need to add B Roethlisberger to the Upper Tier. Putting Rivers ahead of him is ridiculous since Rivers has more O talent and hasn't won a big game yet.

So it is ok that he has Brees ahead of Ben who has only won 1 playoff game in his career? Rivers has won 3. Ben also has had two top rated defenses.

Personally i think Rivers is better than Brees. Give Rivers the same amount of pass attempts as Brees had last year and he has better numbers all around. Brees just throws more in New Orleans but imo he is a choke artist in crunch time.

I think his cluster is pretty good.
