No doubt about it. Josh McDaniels has certainly had an impact as the new head coach of the Broncos. Not quite the one we all had in mind. To take one of the NFL’s most stellar franchises and turn it to ashes in the first few months takes an exceptional talent. Honestly, I’m dismayed at the reaction to all of this. Sure, Cutler can share the blame, but ultimately, the complete implosion of this lies in the hands of a kid named Josh. A kid who hasn’t the foggiest idea what it takes to be a head coach in the NFL, and who has absolutely no credibility to run a team. Yet I hear the banter on the various sports talk shows around town whose hosts are steadfastly supporting McDaniels through this whole mess. My guess is that certain members of the media in Denver don’t want to rankle the new kid in town for fear that McDaniels might hold a grudge and be less apt to give them a story somewhere down the line. Objectivity has been completely thrown to the wind. McDaniels is simply a Belichick wanna be and it’s beyond my comprehension what Bowlen saw in him to give the kid the job in the first place.

Think on this
Would you rather have a 25-year-old quarterback named Jay Cutler who just returned from the pro bowl, or Chris Simms? Really now? You can’t be serious. So here’s the elephant in the room and I believe is the basis for the Broncos wanting to trade Cutler in the first place. Could it be that the Broncos are concerned about Cutler’s diabetes diagnosis? The folks at Dove Valley will deny, deny and deny that Cutler’s health has anything to do with their decision making. But it does and I believe is a factor behind all of this. Worried top brass at the Broncos are concerned whether Cutler can remain healthy long term. So out he must go. For Chris Simms… Can you say 3-13? 2-14? 1-15. That’s your future with Chris Simms. And just trading Cutler for somebody else isn’t going to work now. The Broncos have lost any bargaining power. So don’t expect Detroit to give up that number 1 pick now.

I agree with Drew's take from a fan's perspective, but I'm not sure that all of our hand-wringing is of even the slightest concern to McDaniels. He came from an environment that shunned media exposure and presented a stoic face to fans and foes alike. I'm quite sure that regardless of the Cutler situation, McDaniels viewed Denver as in a greter state of disrepair than the first frame shows.

cute cartoon. But I don't remember anyone being all that happy leading up to shanahan's firing, either.

sometimes you gotta deconstruct to get stronger. like those plants you cut to the root so they grow in better than ever.

I love Drew's work. Disagree with him, here... but that's fine.

This is a bump in the road. If Jay refuses to play in Denver, then we probably didn't want him here, anyway.

We haven't even drafted yet. We've made some nice FA additions. To assume this team is in shambles is not only premature, it's pretty baseless.

Drew is right! The Broncos organization is totally destroyed. I bet there's a just a pit that leads strait to Hades where Dove Valley once stood...maybe a few zombies and that's it. I'll check NFL.Com to see if they've taken our logo off the list of teams in the NFL yet...

Ridiculous.

The Broncos haven't played a single game. And last time I checked, you judge an organization by its performance on the field, not on imaginary and perceived shortcomings. Let the guy field a team before you call him the next coming of Steve Spurrier.

Popps. The franchise is beyond shambles...it is a trainwreck.

If this was happening to the Chiefs or Chargers...I would be reading the whole soap opera and loving every minute of it. As it is...it is happening to my beloved Broncos.

They need to get beyond this trainwreck as quickly as possible. Trade Cutler. Fire McD. Sell the team. I really don't care at this point. The Franchise is bigger than all of them.

IMO, once this is all in the rear view mirror...then the pieces can be put together pretty quickly again. This just needs to end quickly. Time is NOT on the Broncos side. I would take less of a deal for Jay right now just to have a definitive direction set and the team ready for work.

Haw about you start by cutting off your arm your leg or your Willy (assuming you have one) and seeing how strong that makes you?

Get a grip.

we are officially gripless here. ROFL!

But I'm sure the board will crash with another 1,000,0000 Cutler threads. Things haven't been this much fun since the days of Jakey-Poo...

Only in the minds of people like yourself, who want it to be.

A certain contingent on this board are sore-assed over the Shanahan firing, and even more sore-assed that Jay Cutler is holding out.

So, people NEED this to be a disaster, when the fact is.... it's not.

The QB situation isn't resolved yet, so we can't even make a judgment there.

The defense is already improved. The offense already has great pieces in place.

This team isn't going to fall apart without Jay friggin' Cutler. You people are such crybabies. I'd love to see you go into that locker room and tell all of those guys they're useless without Cutler and gauge their response.

Again... the media loves this stuff. It's fun drama. I remember when McNabb was benched last year. Everyone talked about Philly's demise. What did they do? Made a strong run in the 2nd half of the season. NO ONE would have predicted that.

Can you people imagine if Cutler was benched? He'd literally have his da-da on the sidelines by half-time, demanding a trade.

Anyway, the panic is in your minds, folks. You have fun with that.

Love Litton's work, and I don't disagree with his take on this.

However, I actually see this "demolition" of the old regime as a healthy and necessary step in the right direction. Shanny is far past his prime and had this franchise mired in mediocrity, at best.

If the foundation is weak you gotta break it down before you build it up. I'm not saying McDaniels is a great coach, or better than Shanny was, but so far, I think he's doing the right thing.
