PROSECUTOR: BUCKHALTER BOUGHT DRUGS FROM ALLEGED DEALER
Posted by Mike Florio on March 18, 2009, 12:08 p.m. EDT
During opening statements in the criminal trial of an alleged drug dealer, a prosecutor outed former Eagles running back Correll Buckhalter as an alleged customer.

According to Mari A. Schaefer of the Philadelphia Inquirer (via Sheil Kapadia of philly.com), Delaware County Deputy District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland said that Styles N. Beckles told police he sold drugs to Buckhalter and other pro athletes.

Buckhalter’s agent disputed the allegation.

“Any time you to get some information like this, you have to look at the credibility [of the source],” said John Rickert.

We agree, but wouldn’t that argument insulate anyone who buys drugs from blame? They’re all making the purchases from someone who, you know, sells drugs.

Buckhalter recently signed a free-agent contract with the Broncos, leaving the Eagles after eight seasons with the team.

We’ve got an idea for clearing this up — if, that is, former Denver coach Mike Shanahan forgot to take with him a certain machine featuring a strap, several needles that dispense various colors of ink, and long sheets of paper.

Alleged drug dealer names ex-Eagle Buckhalter as client, prosecutor says
By Mari A. Schaefer

INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

A Delaware County prosecutor this morning named former Eagles running back Correll Buckhalter among the reported clients of an alleged drug dealer during opening arguments of a trial.

Deputy District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland, addressing the jury, said that Styles N. Beckles, 36, of Clifton Heights, had told police that he sold drugs to pro athletes, including Buckhalter and Keita Crespina, a former Temple University football player.

No charges have been filed against Buckhalter or Crespina.

Buckhalter, 30, spent eight years with the Eagles before the Denver Broncos signed him to a four-year deal this month.

"Any time you to get some information like this, you have to look at the credibility [of the source]," said John Rickert, Buckhalter's agent. Rickert said he would not comment further at this point.

Crespina could not be reached immediately for comment. He played at Lincoln High School and later in NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League. He served as defensive coordinator at George Washington High School in Philadelphia in the fall,.

Beckles was the subject of a wiretap signed by Superior Court Judge Seamus McCaffrey in December 2005, according to an affidavit. As a result of that investigation, Pennsylvania State Police obtained a search warrant of his apartment, car and person.

When police pulled over Beckles in his silver Toyota Echo, he was found to have 115 glass vials of marijuana, the affidavit said. At his home, police allegedly found 487 glass vials of marijuana buds, digital scales, other drug paraphernalia, and more than $1,300 in cash.

This post is so stupid, on so many different levels, that I don't even know where to begin. You mean Buckhalter and his agent didn't mention that he's a recreational marijuana smoker while negotiating his contract? I can't imagine how that wouldn't have come up! Come on, bro, pull your head out of your lower orifice.

Yup, the new one already gave birth.

Henry was reportedly pissed that she broke up his string of only having one kid per baby mamma.

God I hope so. And if that's the case my apology is already in the mail.

He does make a valid point though, if it was intentional.

Shanahan gets crucified for signing Henry who came off a huge season in Tenn and played great here before 4 injuries made him relatively useless.

Back to the point, Henry having 30 kids in different states and dodging child support wouldn't have been known, and his drug test pops were pretty distant.

Do we have Buck's NFL drug testing record, by chance?

Hey, Correll had to deal with 3 season ending/potentially career ending knee injuries in a very short time span..perhaps that is how he chose to cope? With every new headline, we seem to further cement our place atop the football soap opera world , making the TO/Romo/Garrett drama, etc seem a distant memory........Shoulda' hired the EYE-TALIAN.

If the guy is guilty of something, his contract will be voided. Big deal. The McDaniel haters will jump at anything to get pissed at even before any facts come out. Well, facts that suit their needs that is. Piss and moan, piss and moan. You guys must be fun at parties. "McDaniels pissed in my wine(whine) cooler. Oh no."

Well at least we have 6 other RBs who can compete. If he is found guilty this isn't much of a loss at all. I would rather have Hillis out there for short yardage situations anyways.

Here's the latest:

TRIAL TESTIMONY INCLUDES DETAILS ABOUT BUCKHALTER’S ALLEGED DRUG BUYSPosted by Mike Florio on March 19, 2009, 9:33 a.m. EDT
On Wednesday, eyebrows were raised when a prosecutor alleged during opening statements in a drug trial that Broncos running back Correll Buckhalter bought marijuana from the defendant during Buckhalter’s time with the Eagles.

Once the testimony began, juror heard the details.

According to William Bender of the Philadelphia Daily News, Cpl. Todd Harris testified that the defendants, Styles Beckles, admitted that he regularly sold marijuana to Buckhalter.

Per Harris, Beckles said in a signed statement that he bought a high-quality marijuana known as “Kush” in Queen, New York, and then sold it in Philly.

In the signed statement, Beckles said that Buckhalter bought “three to six vials” of the product ”every two or three weeks when he was in town, sometimes more ‘when there was a special function.’”

Obviously, Buckhalter denies the allegations.

“I’ve spoken to Correll and Correll says there’s no validity to it,” agent J.R. Rickert told the Daily News.

But here’s where it gets odd. Asked whether Buckhalter knew Beckles, or if Buckhalter understood why Beckles would choose to claim that he sold pot to a backup running back instead of someone of a higher profile like Donovan McNabb (doesn’t pot reduce nausea?), Rickert said, “I didn’t even want to ask that question?”

Um, why not?

Maybe Rickert knew that if he started to scratch the sruface of the flat, superficial denial, Rickert might realize that the flat, superficial denial isn’t credible.

And let’s keep in mind the fact that we’re talking about pot. For many NFL players, smoking pot is simply something they do. So unless they’re growing it, they need a supplier.

Thus, the claim is hardly shocking, and the denial is understandable. The last thing Buckhalter wants or needs is the enhanced drug-testing frequency arising from membership in the substance abuse program, or the fine/suspension that would arise if he’s already in Stage One or higher of the league’s confidential drug testing and treatment process.

In 2001, Buckhalter and two former teammates, Darrel Crutchfield and Terrence Carroll, were suspended for a game after police discovered marijuana in the SUV in which they were riding. Only Carroll was charged with marijuana possession.
