March 10, 2009 03:46 PM - Two Mississauga sisters convicted of killing their mother appeared in court this week to try to convince a judge to let them out of jail early, despite the Crown prosecutor's assertion that it's far too early.
The former therapist of the younger sister, 21, told court today she needs months of psychological counselling before she's ready to move on with her life.
The woman remains "stuck" in the same emotional and psychological state she was in before she helped murder her mother, Dr. Janine Cutler told a Brampton court.
The convicted killer has asked to be released from the Grand Valley Institute near Waterloo, a federal prison for women, where she and her older sister are incarcerated.
The woman wants to be let out of jail and into a halfway house in the Ottawa area so that she can attend the University of Ottawa. She's currently taking correspondence courses through Athabasca University in Alberta towards obtaining a degree in psychology and French.
Crown prosecutor Mike Cantlon is opposing her release as well as the release of her 22-year-old sister, who wants to live in a Barrie halfway house and eventually study engineering at the University of Waterloo.
To make his point concerning the younger sister, Cantlon today referred to some of Cutler's comments made about her to her probation officer for a recent progress report
In that report, Cutler said she "lies and manipulates" until she gets what she wants.
"There is no limit to what she will do (to get her way)," he said.
Social worker Grace Scott described the woman's ability to be forthright and honest as “selective.” Scott said the woman will have difficulty reintegrating into society if she doesn't seek psychological help.
The two sisters have been in jail for for three years since receiving 10-year sentences for drowning their mother in the bathtub of the family's Mississauga home in 2003.
Their identities are protected under Canadian law because they were under 18 when they committed the crime.
They are allowed annual reviews under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Justice Bruce Duncan, who sentenced them in June 2006, rejected their bid for freedom during last year's review. He's expected to decide whether or not to grant their release later this summer. Regardless, they will be eligible to apply for federal parole this Oct. 29, with their mandatory release on March 11, 2013 after serving two-thirds of the sentence.

What a case huh?

Cutler sounds like a whiner. Cutler needs to realize she is in the big-girl World. the big-girl World. the big-girl World.

As I always have said....Cutler needs to grow up. I am glad that once again I am right.

Feel free to print off and laminate my wonderful post. I did.

If you miss it this time....no worries, I will type it again in the next thread.
