View Full Version : How would you react if Bowlen fired McDaniels and rehired Shanahan?

Since some are throwing out crazy hypothetical situations, I want to get the reaction to this. What if you woke up tomorrow morning and news broke that Bowlen had fired McDaniels and his staff to rehire Shanahan, the Goodmans, Bates, Slowik and company? What your reaction be?

Then I'd think Bowlen should sell the team, because he'd no longer be acting in a rational or in control manner.

No need to rehire them they are still getting paid. Just make them come back to work.

I'd throw up, and would not be surprised if the NFL forced Bowlen to sell the team and move it to LA.

Nope, you get Shanny as he is. The good and the bad. Cutler's happy yet the DB's go back to playing 15-yard cushions. I'd imagine Shanny brings back some of the recently departed defensive players too.

Does McDaniels little brother stay on the coaching staff? We can't afford to lose him.

Wasnt Kyle Shannahan's first job on Denver's staff?

I would palmface at the situation in general. If Nolan stayed as our DC I would gradually become superstoked. I wouldn't be able to read any sports publications for a while though because the team would be a laughingstock.

I think we should have a contest as to who can make the most ridiculous thread.

I submit this one and the $100,000 to quit Broncos thread as my nomination.

I'd expect more "Bowlen, you gutless drunk" threads that would have to be merged with the original "Bowlen you gutless drunk" thread... We're talking about easily a 100+ page thread

If Slowik came back I wouldn't watch the Broncos except to make fun of them. I'd be cool with Jim Goodman, though. :)

Considering Shanahan was adamant Slowik was going to remain his DC, and the fact they were good friends, Coach Slo and his 15-yard cushions would be back in the house! I'd also look forward to the return of "the teacher" Jacob Burney!

Gay post - you want to throw out some scenario that will never happen just to get our reactions. Dude, go by a Rubicks Cube or something.

What I'm trying to do here is gauge if the Mane would prefer if things had been left alone with Shanahan, Goodman, Bates and Slowik or not.

That would have been a better question. Bowlen would have to be criticized if he switched streams right now. The criticism would be damn near universal. Rightfully so.

Only thing I really wanted was a restaffing of Def. coaches and coordinator. I was pretty pissed when I first heard Shanny got let go.

I'd be all for it, even though it can't happen. Even if Bowlen came to his senses and wanted to do it, he just can't. It doesn't work that way.

I don't see why firing McDaniels would entail bringing Shanahan back. If I owned this team, I would fire McDaniels and promote Dennison, at least as interim HC.

Maybe, maybe not. Now that Shanahan knows its within Pat to fire him, he might soften on some things he became entrenched about, such as keeping Slowik as a coach. BTW, I doubt Slowik would really want to come back after seeing Shanahan take the bullet for him.

It is amazing to me just how many fans prefer Shanahan and Cutler over the organization. You folks have not won anything in so long I would think you would be happy to have a change.

Cutler acts more and more like Jeff George and he sure isn't much of a team player. Looks like he needs to grow up.

I don't want Shanahan back. He refused to fix the defense and I have little faith he'd change anything this year either.

Sure, he'd kiss Cutler's ass more than McDaniels, but what good does having Cutler with a crap defense year after year?

Well, we know that's not your Rubicks Cube, Zona....

The Cutler crap aside, I think Daniels has done a very solid job of bringing in new defensive talent and a new defensive mentality, which we sorely needed. The only time I saw Shanny pursue free agency with this combination of aggression and sensibility was during the SB years.

As far as the Cutler stuff goes, we don't really know how McD is handling things. It could be, as many have said, that Cutler wants out and is forcing the issue through a PR battle. Bowlen sat in on those phone calls, though, so he knows exactly how McD is handling things. Apparently he approves.

Regardless, Bowlen pulled the trigger on firing Shanny. That means he saw problems that could only be fixed by decapitating the team and starting something completely new. He won't know if he's found a solution until he gives his new coach a fair shake, and that means seeing this team on the field next year.

Can we just trade McDaniels and McCoy for Shanahan and Bates and keep the rest of our current staff? I'd be down with that... otherwise, pass - assuming we hold on to Cutler.

That's not what this is about at all. Us Cutlerites are Cutlerites BECAUSE we think he's better for the orginization IF it comes down to him vs. McD - which likely won't happen.

I would lose all respect for Bowlen, and Shanahan wouldn't take the job back anyway. I imagine that Al Davis would like this though.
