Why didn't we draft Medenhall or Stewart?!!?!? Why did we have to take the best player at one of the most critical positions on a football team that plays every down of offense no matter what play is called? WHY!?!?!?!?!?!

You say that but Kaylore himself has pointed that our redzone struggles are a result of not having a running game. I liked Eddie Royal as a player but I think it would have helped Jay more to do more in the running game. I really dont see what so outlandish about anything Ive said.

BTW,

http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showpost.php?p=1961093&postcount=45

This post kind of turns Kaylores idea that I was badmouthing Royal on its ear. Plus it was prophetic where Torain is concerned. And a lot of people have been saying that we should take a running back with a high pick this year. So dont give me this nonsense that I was being outlandish.

And Jamal Charles' 5'11", 199 pound ass is what would've made us into a dominant red zone offense?

See Lex, here's your problem. You're a passionate fan. That's good. You love football and you get excited about various players and aspects of the game. Also good. Where you go wrong is when you over dramatize and polarize every single aspect of it.

Last year it was "we didn't take an RB high so we ****ed up" despite the fact that Clady and Royal look like borderline pro-bowlers already, and addressed areas of need.

Of late its been your crusade against McDaniels because he wasn't the guy you wanted hired and because he obviously thinks differently of Cutler than the average Broncos fan. The fact that he isn't who you wanted, doing things just like you wanted, has resulted in you going over the top with angst towards the guy.

Its a shame because if you'd temper your reactions and not swing from one polarizing extreme to the next you'd be a pretty solid poster around here. You have good takes more often than not, but those takes get thrown out the window now because people associate you only with the angst driven rants.

But hey, its just a message board, and a very loosely (some would say poorly) moderated one at that. By all means continue with your venting at all things outside your desired outcomes.

I think that some Broncos fans have pent up angst over not having a franchise back here for so long.

Its always annoying to see people post about picking up highly rated FA backs or blue-chip draft pick backs because every half-aware Bronco fan knows that a back is the last thing that the team needs to invest resources in.

What makes you so sure that smaller running backs get injured more easily isnt a myth?

See Lex, here's your problem. You're a passionate fan. That's good. You love football and you get excited about various players and aspects of the game. Also good. Where you go wrong is when you over dramatize and polarize every single aspect of it.

Last year it was "we didn't take an RB high so we ****ed up" despite the fact that Clady and Royal look like borderline pro-bowlers already, and addressed areas of need.

As was indicated previously, at no point was I really kvetching Royal as a player. I drafted him in our mock. But at the point of the draft last year, we had Ryan Harris, who had projected as a LT when he was drafted and also Chris Kuper whose attributes per what he did at the combine suggested he could play tackle. Someone made a thread about this about a year ago. Last year presented an opportunity to upgrade the running game and I actually think that would have helped Jay more this past season. I dont think he would have had as many yards but I think he would have had fewer INTs and a better yards per pass. I also think if we had addressed the running game, it would have smoothed out the inconcistencies in the offense this past season. The running game had its moments as it was but its also true that we were best last year when we were able to run the ball...thats part of relying heavily on a young QB. Identifying upgrading the running game would have been more beneficial is not a slight on Royal. Its an observation that can be made independent of Royal. And as far as Clady is concerned, I said the whole time that we should draft a RB or an OT...those were the positions of greatest value at 12, I said. Ive constantly challenged Kaylore to dispell this but he hasnt been able to. As far as Clady specifically was concerned, he wasnt my first choice as a T because, as I said, improving the running game made more sense, especially with Harris and Kuper in the fold. I think my first choice at tackle was Oher. If we had taken Oher and would have been able to run the ball like Carolina did, most people would look on him as fondly as they now do Clady. I dont think I had strong feelings on Clady. I wasnt terribly familiar with him. I think when I made a thread about grading our draft, I gave that pick a C as in wait and see what happens with this guy but I would have preferred to improve the running game. It turned out to be a great pick, but Oher also could have been a good pick for us. We had two and possibly three left tackles this past season playing on the line. Its no wonder we were so reliant on the pass.

Of late its been your crusade against McDaniels because he wasn't the guy you wanted hired and because he obviously thinks differently of Cutler than the average Broncos fan. The fact that he isn't who you wanted, doing things just like you wanted, has resulted in you going over the top with angst towards the guy.

Thats not totally it. Its true, he's not the guy I wanted but Im not so sure its that more than its the fact that Bowlen picked the guy only 6% of the people wanted. As a result of this pick, weve lost the goose that laid the golden egg in the Goodmans and we almost traded Cutler. So far, I dont really see an argument that can be made for why McDaniels would have been better than any of the other coaches who got more than 6%.

Its a shame because if you'd temper your reactions and not swing from one polarizing extreme to the next you'd be a pretty solid poster around here. You have good takes more often than not, but those takes get thrown out the window now because people associate you only with the angst driven rants.

Perhaps you couldnt tell but Im not trying to win friends and Im not afraid to put ideas out there that people are uncomfortable with. That should have been obvious by now. I leave it up to people to know what ad hominem means and if they dont, thats on them.

Lex I'm busting your balls because you overreact. You're doing it right now with McDaniels. When you don't have a cow, you have pretty decent takes. Then something happens contrary to what you hoped and you act like the world is ending.

You don't know McDaniels is a bad coach. None of us do yet. We haven't played a game and until we do, we won't know what we have. Get off the drama train and quit announcing him as the worst coach ever before he's been in place for more than a few months.

Thanks Kay, basically hit my point in a more concise form.

And Lex, its not about trying to win friends, that to my knowledge isn't really the point of a message board. Its about discussing opinions and takes.

But the key to those discussions being worthwhile is if they're conducted in an intelligent, rational manner. Not through hyperbole or polarizing extremes.

In fact, that strikes at the larger problem with this entire board. You can no longer discuss the intricacies of football or the Denver Broncos because the larger aspects breed a polarizing reaction. End result, we get a few dozen threads on Cutler and McDaniels (who's to blame and the like) instead of compelling discussion on where to go at #12, what later round draft picks fit the new scheme, what we can expect from Moss and Dumervil at OLB, etc.. The real football gets lost in the sea of exaggerated drama.

I still think you are missing the point Kay, the mane is all about a good melt-down isn't it?

Lex just happens to throw fits a lot more epicly than most of us, that is how it is with passionate people. Some of us are wrong, some of us are right. I was wrong about Cutler, I thought it was the stupidest move since the Germans figured that that Hitler guy was not all bad. If Clady had turned out to be George Foster II Lex would have looked like a genious, if Mendenhall had an Adrian Petersonesque season he would have at least looked pretty damn clever even with Cladys good play.

The best thing is that whenever something happens you don't agree with you can come in here and punt a few imaginary cats and letting out steam so you can go back to your life and be a productive bum.

I for one admire the ability of some people in here to completely lose grip of reality and just tear into whoever they see as being the source of all evil.

Our running attack was fine until Hillis went down. Obviously drafting Clady was THE right decision amidst a pool of potentially bad ones. Royal was a great pick also, although not as crucial.. However, if Royal never gets drafted and Stokely goes down like he did, we are done.. As it turned out, Hillis went down (after every other running back did) and we were done.

This year, the picks have to come early and often on defense and defense only.

I didn't vote. I didn't see an option for 4) Give the Raiders all of our picks because we love Al Davis.

Well, hindsight is 20/20.

Everyone of us wanted one particular player or another. Not everyone wanted Clady thats for sure. We're all very happy with him now but before the draft we all have favourites. During the draft, if the one we picked doesn't get drafted emotions can run high.

I don't really see how its fair to call someone out over an opinion anyone of us could have had.

75% of the board would have taken Jake Long over Clady at the time of the draft. How many would now? You can't tell while its happening, or even immediately after. I have an opinion about who I want us to draft this year and id they're available at 12 if we don't draft him I'll be disappointed. I bet you have an opinion as well.

I'm man enough to admit I wanted Chris Williams. I made a mistake. Therefore, I must suck.

You're not alone. I was thinking that Williams would be a better prospect as well. He still may be a damn solid football player. Clady is dominant and I'm damn happy about the pick though.

LOL funny. Think about it though this draft also has a bunch of highly rated OT. If some of them turn out really good, and then mendenhall goes on to be a stud, then maybe. You never know how things could turn out.

Clady a good player though but he needs to work on his run blocking. Especially down in the redzone I was less then impressed with his power blocking. He needs to stay in the weight room over next couple offseasons and he could be beastly good.
